Reaper King - Changeling Combo

Introduction

First things first. This is my first self build EDH deck. I only played precons with minor upgrades up till now. I am happy for every critic and suggestion/tips that i can get. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to read through the deck and for your help.

Reaper King is a excellent commander for changelings. But after trying out a build with changelings and different lords i got the feeling that there is something missing. The etb of reaper king could be abused more and the etb's of the changelings can be used also differently. This list is the result after some idea gathering and playtesting. It is by far not on competetive levels, but it is a funny deck that can deal quiet a punch if left unnoticed or underestimated.

Strategy

The decks focus lies on creating multiple or infinite etbs of your changelings with bouncing and recasting effects and abusing them in different ways which i will explain in this section. The deck tries to have multiple redundant combo outlets to get to reliable to the win condition from different angles.

Bounce:

Cloudstone Curio,Equilibrium,Temur Sabertooth and Chulane, Teller of Tales are my choices for bouncing my creatures back to my hand. While Cloudstone Curio is the easiest one to combo off, it is possible to generate infinite combos with all of them, with increasing difficulty. Chulane, Teller of Tales also fills the roll of a ramp and draw engine while Equilibrium can act as a one sided board clear with a panharmonicon or another bounce engine.

Untap:

Depending on the available parts this cards can be very important. The cards i added for this matter are Intruder Alarm and Merrow Reejerey. Intruder Alarm is just an insanely good card which can untap all of your mana dorks for enough mana to recast and bounce your stuff over and over again. With the right mana dudes out, you can also go infinite. Merrow Reejerey is the scaled down version, but is also extremly efficient in not only untaping your stuff, but also in tapping out your opponents. Also Merrow Reejerey can untap a Lotus Field.

Mana:

The best creatures in this category are Bloom Tender and his new elderly brother Faeburrow Elder. With Reaper King or enough colors due to other permanents out, they tap for WUBRG with ease. Now add a untaper and a bounce into the calculation and you go infinite with your small changelings.

The other members in the creature faction are Manaweft Sliver and Gemhide Sliver. They not only fix and ramp you at 1G, they also make all other changelings into mana dorks aswell. This two work best with the haste enchanments Rythm of the Wild and Fires of Yavimaya, so that your one mana changelings pay themselves. Depending on the bounce piece and untap piece you can also go infinite.

At last but not least with have the powerful Mana Echoes which gives you for each creature on your field when a changeling etb´s.

ETB and on-cast exploit:

1. Draw and Ramp: Chulane, Teller of Tales, Risen Reef, Kindred Discovery, Mana Echoes, Guardian Project, Soul of the Harvest
2. Target Removal: Reaper King, Aura Shards
3. Damage: Purphoros, God of the Forge, Forerunner of the Coalition, Dragon Tempest
4. Bounce: Equilibrium
5. Tap: Merrow Reejerey
6. Token: Inalla, Archmage Ritualist

The best changelings to combo of are of course the one drops Universal Automaton, Mothdust Changeling and Changeling Outcast. A Morophon, the Boundless helps your other changelings.

The three "Champion a creature" changelings can go infinite without any help. If you have all three you cast one after the other and remove always the one currently on the board with the one entering, which generates infinite etb's. You can stop it of course by removing another creature once. The changelings are Changeling Titan, Changeling Hero and Changeling Berserker.

Combo Overview

Champion a creature:

With Changeling Titan, Changeling Hero and Changeling Berserker you can generate infinite etb's. To start you need one other creature on the field to champion for the first one entering the battlefield. Then you cast the next one targeting the one on the field, your spare creature returns. The third one will now be cast and target the current changeling, which will then cause the first one to return to the battlefield. The first one targets the third one, returning the second one. The loop is established. You can stop it at any time by removing another creature with the champion trigger.

Alternatives for the Combo:

Spark Double, Progenitor Mimic and Sakashima the Imposter. They are basically filler if you are missing one or two of the other champion changelings.

Cloudstone Curio:

Cloudstone Curio + Manaweft Sliver or Gemhide + Rhythm of the Wild or Fires of Yavimaya + Two of the one drop changelings (Universal Automaton, Mothdust Changeling, Changeling Outcast)

Play one of your one drops and due to haste and the mana slivers you can tap it for the cast of the next one drop. Cast the next one, bounce the first with cloudstone and repeat.

Alternatives for the Combo:

1. Morophon, the Boundless: Also your two drops will now work. The colored onedrops cost now 0 and don´t need the mana slivers or haste anymore. With mana echoes you also don´t need haste or mana slivers anymore for all changelings that now cost colorless only.

2. Intruder Alarm, Merrow Reejerey: Can be used instead of haste to untap the slivers, other changelings affected by the slivers already on the battlefield or mana dorks like Bloom Tender and Faeburrow Elder.

3. Equilibrium instead of Cloudstone Curio: Additional one mana is needed for the bounce which means either a untap source for a mana source on the field. Or Morophon with free to cast changelings.

4. Temur Sabertooth instead of Cloudstone Curio: Another is needed for the bounce. Only possible with Intruder Alarm and at least two one mana dorks or also Merrow Reejerey with Lotus Field, Faeburrow Elder or Bloom Tender.

5. Bounce Bloom Tender or Faeburrow Elder and a one drop with a haste enchantment on the field. Works not with Temur Sabertooth without mana slivers due to the additional needed to recast the Bloom or Faeburrow.

6. Chulane, Teller of Tales instead of Cloudstone Curio: This one is a bit hard to pull of. Only possible with Intruder Alarm and either Mana Echoes or a WUBRG dork since you need to untap Chulane, Teller of Tales and pay an additionl each bounce.

Win Conditions

1. Reaper King: Clear the board.

2. Forerunner of the Coalition, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Dragon Tempest: Deal damage.

3. Equilibrium: Bounce the board.

4. Merrow Reejerey: Tap the board.

5. Inalla, Archmage Ritualist: Can generate token that pay themselves at each etb with mana slivers. Also with Mana Echoes or excess mana due to other additions stated above you can generate a infinite army of hasty changelings and close the game by either attacking or tapping for ther activated ability to let someone lose 7 life if the board is filled with anti attack stax.

6. Thassa's Oracle: Draw through your library and cast her when the amount of cards left in your library is enough.

7. Liliana's Contract: Have four different changelings on the board at the beginning of your upkeep.

8. Sliver Overlord: Can grab all of your changelings and mana slivers. With Amoeboid Changeling you can also steal at least one creature each turn. With something to untap and excess mana you can steal all creatures on the board.

Card Alternatives

1. Lathliss, Dragon Queen: Generates a 5/5 flyer each etb.

2. Impact Tremors: Cheap substitute for Purphoros, God of the Forge

3. Peer Pressure: Steal some creatures with Inalla, Archmage Ritualist or enough changelings.

4. Hibernation Sliver, Lavabelly Sliver: With a panharmonicon this two can also go infinite very easily. If you want to go this route i would also suggest to switch out Dragon Tempest, Purphoros, God of the Forge and Forerunner of the Coalition for Kalastria Healer, Wayward Servant and the other one for the Lavabelly Sliver to gain the life back. Might change back to this constellation from time to time, because it doesn´t rely to much on untap and mana generation. Also the two pieces are searchable with Sliver Overlord. I am playing with Dragon Tempest at the moment, because it can also help to remove small creatures in the beginning of the game. Forerunner of the Coalition is also a tutor itself. Use the combination which you like more.

5. Of course all the expensive lands can be substituted by cheaper lands at the cost of speed and efficiency.
