Arcades, Selvala's Little Dragon!

This is a Optimised version of Arcades defender tribal, It runs similar to the competitive Selvala just not as fast. Probably not suited for any real cEDH tables but will be able to hang at most tough tables.

Deck Stats

  • Defenders - 25

  • Ramp - 14

  • Removal - 9

  • Tutors - 12

  • Draw - 4 pieces that will draw without our CMDR, 28 Pieces with our CMDR active

Things to know

We have pushed our defender count down to 20 during testing as we have some not super useful pieces but that really puts a strain on Axebane as it almost never works with out artifact untappers. We are back to 25 and I strongly think any less than 24 will cause real consistency issues

Main Win Conditions

The main win condition is to use either Axebane Guardian or Bloom Tender + Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura to create infinite mana and then using one of the mana sinks listed win the game.

we have a back up of Overgrown Battlement but wont go infinite with our blue untappers and instead needs Staff of Domination Umbral Mantle for this to work we need either 4 or 5 defenders on the field which isn't rare but can't be counted on. SO will just be considered ramp with in the deck.

Once we have Infinite mana we have a couple of mana sinks that will win us the game on the spot;

  • Walking Archive can be ramped to make our opponents mill out during their upkeep.

  • Quicksilver Wall can be infinite sent back to our hand and using our CMDR we will draw our entire deck, this gives us infinite toughness creatures with haste.

  • Assault Formation can be used to create infinite toughness.

Back Up Win Conditions

We have a number of way's to use our low cost creatures to go infinite in a not as efficient process

  • Cloudstone Curio will allow us to bounce a creature every time we play a creature, combined with Intruder Alarm will give our creatures infinite untaps.

  • Equilibrium is not only removal during the game but can replace Cloudstone Curio as long as we can tap for 2 or 3 mana depending on which defender body we are replaying

  • Paradox Engine depending on how fast you're trying to make the deck, This will work great to replace Intruder Alarm but is a slow addition. If you need speed then as strong as this is, it's not the best option.

Due to the nature of the synergy we can create infinite draws first which will lead to infinite Mana second via;

  • Aluren + Cloudstone Curio + one of the draw defenders we have or our commander. This will draw our entire deck and give access to all the pieces we need.

Cards/Ideas Worth Mentioning

Doorkeeper - Works with Infinite untaps to mill our opponents but with infinite untap we're about to win anyway so might be worth dropping and adding another defender. (If we drop a defender we need to add one to keep the count at 24)

Eldrazi Displacer - Our mana base has been made just to make sure we could use his ability when needed, It's in our sideboard as it just wasn't being used enough. but being able to blink something any time we want is a strong mechanic especially with intruder alarm and paradox in the deck. This may go back in with more games played.

Land count - Currently 34 this has been a result of our testing games we're we've ended up with way more lands than needed, We're sitting on 2.2 average cmc count with 13 ramp cards. This may go down in the future with testing.

  • Revenge of the Hunted + Wall of Tears = some decent bounce. we have 4 creatures who will mess with a board state in this way. Cathedral Membrane will send most to GY not hand.

  • Cyclonic Rift It's in our sideboard as it's one of the strongest blue cards in EDH. The main reason it's not in the deck is that I personally don't like it. It's overplayed and i try to avoid using it. (Paradox engine is the same) so not a fan of putting both into one deck. But if you want it, it's a slight improvement.

The blue removal spells - We are currently running mostly 1cmc protection spells, We aren't trying to mess with our opponents board too much, If you want to make a more balanced but slower version, then this is one area to change around a bit. Add some more traditional board wipes. some more spot removal.
