Warden of the Wall

Artifact

Warden of the Wall enters the battlefield tapped.

{{T}}: Add {{1}} to your mana pool.

As long as it's not your turn, Warden of the Wall is a 2/3 Gargoyle artifact creature with flying.

+1 for Gargoyle Tribal!

Just a thought,

Shrieking Grotesque. Since Darklit Gargoyle has a activated ability that you may use, you could benefit from a little hand disruption, too. If you dipped into Black, that gives you access to Duress, Inquisition of Kozilek and Blackmail as well as Utter End and Terminate. Thoughtseize if your budget allows.

Since you have players revealing their hands, Voidstone Gargoyle to keep certain cards from being used, and maybe Sanctum Gargoyle for all the Artifacts in your deck.

For , I would replace the Warden of the Wall with Darksteel Ingot, and Needle Spires with Shambling Vent. All of the Darksteel in your deck, maybe a Darksteel Gargoyle and some board wipe effects.

I have a similar deck, I might put it on TappedOut soon (but without infect). If I do, I'll post the full decklist here :)

I recommend more Master of Etheriums, also, Mishra's Factory and maybe a few Chief of the Foundrys.

Some good cards from my deck are:

Warden of the Wall, Helm of the Host, Pentavus, Frogmite, Energy Chamber, Tezzeret's Simulacrum Tezzeret's Touch Memnite, and Sharding Sphinx.

If a mana source is defined as any permanent with at least one mana ability, there are some really disgusting things you could do. Composite Golem into Maelstrom Archangel (or any number of other 5 drops), Ashnod's Altar into cheerio shenanigans, Primal Wellspring into Dark Ritual/Cabal Ritual, or just start the game with a free Ramos, Dragon Engine or Rosheen Meanderer. Maybe that all requires too much building around, but maybe that could also be the point. It'd be like EDH but your commander is just a mana source. Of course, it would never work. After all, it would only be a matter of time before Warden of the Wall completely takes over the meta and has to be emergency banned. 2spooky.

When a creature stops being a creature all equipment will "fall off" (not legal targets) and many auras will also die.

But what happens with the likes of the old PROTO-equipment such as Spirit Shield and Endoskeleton?

If the target is a Warden of the Wall , Chimeric Idol or a Chimeric Sphere what is the reason it would work or fail? Can it "remember" a legal target?

I think you have a couple of problems with this deck.

First: too many creatures.

Second: Too few equipment cards.

You want to draw cards of your equipment, chaining one into the next. But with 9 pieces of equipment, you'll on average draw equipment one out of every 6 cards. This also affects Militant Inquisitor - you don't get it to be huge creature, because you rarely have more than 2 or 3 equipments in play.

Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer seems to be a win-more card. More expensive to play than the rest of your creatures, only works if you already have a pile of both creatures AND artifacts in play.

Warden of the Wall and Iron Myr But why? For the ramp? Then rather play cheaper equipment. And more of it.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx doesn't get to give you much more mana than another land would. Not much devotion to anything in a deck with small creatures and artifacts.

Odric, Lunarch Marshal + Sword of Vengeance - I see what you did there. Clever synergy.

Mikaeus, the Lunarch, 3 of the Deflecting Palms and Thalia, Heretic Cathar doesn't really work with the rest of the deck. Consider exchanging them for 3 Sram, Senior Edificer, 1 Puresteel Paladin and some better equipment. I doubt you'll get to equip and unequip Sunforger more than a couple of times, and certainly not enough to justify 4 Deflecting Palm - which you also don't need 4 of, since you can tutor it with Sunforger. You could also consider Relic Seeker or Steelshaper's Gift for tutoring out the equipment you need.

You have a couple of things in your maybeboard, that look good... and a couple of things, that aren't in modern (Sol Ring, Umezawa's Jitte). Batterskull is fine and so is any and all Swords of X and Y.

You have too few lands for not having any mana rocks. I think the solution is actually more rocks, not more lands. I personally like starting with 40 lands and dropping one for every two rocks as a base point. If you find this ends up giving you too much mana you can always drop cards later. Without further ado here is a list of mana rocks at or under and $5 that are legal in your deck.

Sol Ring

Boros Signet

Coldsteel Heart

Fellwar Stone

Fire Diamond

Fractured Powerstone

Gold Myr

Guardian Idol

Iron Myr

Manakin

Marble Diamond

Millikin

Mind Stone

Plague Myr

Prismatic Lens

Star Compass

Thought Vessel

Alloy Myr

Boros Cluestone

Boros Keyrune

Commander's Sphere

Darksteel Ingot

Foriysian Totem

Heart of Ramos

Honor-Worn Shaku

Kyren Toy

Magnifying Glass

Mana Prism

Manalith

Opaline Unicorn

Palladium Myr

Phyrexian Lens

Pristine Talisman

Scuttlemutt

Seer's Lantern

Sol Grail

Spectral Searchlight

Thunder Totem

Tooth of Ramos

Unstable Obelisk

Vessel of Endless Rest

Warden of the Wall

Worn Powerstone

As you can see I went with creating a comprehensive list instead of picking which ones are playable. In addition to these there are a few more cards that have to do with creating mana that are't strictly mana rocks you may want to think about. The first two are the mana producing altars Ashnod's Altar and Phyrexian Altar. They provide a sacrifice outlet and allow you to turn your opponent's creatures that you have stolen into mana for casting your own spells. Ventifact Bottle allows you to have a big turn by tapping down any unused lands and transferring that mana to your next turn. Basalt Monolith does something along the same lines. It can only "store" exactly 3 mana, but can be use once after casting without further investment; does not "lose" any mana, and keeps the mana stored over multiple turns. Admittedly the last two cards I mentioned aren't very good, but they are interesting.

Had this idea for a sample encounter: THE WALL

"While continuing on in my travels, I came across this wall. Daunting and strong, like an immortal testament that no living thing should pass this way. I will never know how long I would have stared at its magnificent structure because not long after arriving, I was attacked by its ancient guardians. Great steel gargoyles, breathless, yet alive, fell from the lofty heights and crashed to ground below. As the earth shook, I thought it was from their impact. I wish that assumption was correct, but it was the protective spells from unknown magic that caused the thorns and forest behind me to come alive. The malicious energy surged all around me as I realized my great predicament. I was trapped on all sides. The wall in front, the gargoyles to the sides, and the magical barrier of plants behind me... there was no escape. I would have to fight."

Hand:

Manor Gargoyle

Darksteel Brute

Warden of the Wall

Wall of Tanglecord

Steel Wall

Steel Overseer

Reinforced Bulwark

So, the concept here is that the Player runs into a barrier, I guess Steel Wall, and needs to get past it. However, there are security measures like Wall of Tanglecord created from a protected hex and Reinforced Bulwark as support to help keep people out. There are also special Gargoyles like Warden of the Wall, Manor Gargoyle, and Darksteel Brute. The wall is trying to keep them out for a reason.

Treasure:

Darksteel Ingot

Mortal's Resolve

Darksteel Mutation

The Darksteel and indestructible theme come out in the treasures. The Darksteel Ingot and Darksteel Mutation are drops from Darksteel Brute and lead to a side quest. Mortal's Resolve is a spell that came from the experience they received from fighting.

SPECIAL TREASURE: (not a card)

One Ebon Steel Fragment -- The idea here,I guess, would be an 11 part long string of encounters. Each victory grants one of these fragments. Once all 11 Fragments are collected, the player can choose to bind the fragments together to make Darksteel Colossus for themselves. However, if they received a "Corrupted Steel Fragment" from a specific encounter, they can choose to combine it with the other 11 fragments to create Blightsteel Colossus as a secret boss fight with tons of rewards.

I'm just throwing ideas out as they come. My concept for this put out very hurriedly

Army of the Dead, Zombie Apocalypse, Shambling Ghoul, Reassembling Skeleton, Coldsteel Heart, Mistvein Borderpost, Sphere of the Suns, Warden of the Wall, Dismal Backwater, and Diregraf Ghoul would also be effected by it I suppose... but it would be a mild benefit at most. Though I could probably replace Demonmail Hauberk or Brawler's Plate
