12/2017 Updates
cole_scholtz, 7 years ago
Added in Experiment One for either an early game chump blocker to bide time or to just grow into something unstoppable. Also switched some of the sideboard for some planes walker and counter options with Wall of Roots. Thank you all for the ideas!Ermergherd

After some serious nagging bitching and some mourning of lost revels I have added responses to that gawd awful Control Magic type stuff. Some Minor Fixes
JB_Echo, 7 years ago
After a handful of games and talking with other players I have added some creature stealing effects and removing some of the less impactful permanents.

-
Recycle is out, Lifecrafter's Bestiary is in. Several times Recycle put me in a difficult position and it's cost is very high. LB should be a very good replacement.
-
Skullclamp is out, Thousand-Year Elixir is in. Elixir is so good in this deck. Pseudo haste + untap a creature will make all the dorks and utility creatures even more valuable.
-
Hall of the Bandit Lord is out, Mutavault is in. It is an additional elf, additional creature for things like Craterhoof Behemoth and it comes in untapped

-Konda's BannerKonda's Banner was just not impactful enough. Giving all my things +2/+2 for 4 mana at sorcery speed just isn't sufficient, especially when it's vulnerable to instant-speed spot removal.
-Door of Destinies
Door of Destinies is powerful, but slow. If I can pull it off, it wins games, but it rarely survives the turn before it's removed. I am considering Coat of Arms instead.
-Sylvan Library
Sylvan Library is good, but the life drain is hard to deal with. I have decided to switch it out for Descendants' Path instead.
+Descendants' Path
This card is cheap and has the potential to snowball quite hard. A turn 4 Oyobi, Who Split the Heavens is pretty good.
+Kindred Discovery
Generic card draw.
+Call to the Kindred
Same as Descendants' Path, Call to the Kindred offers powerful free creatures every turn. A little more vulnerable than Descendants' Path, but almost always hits something useful.
Hungry Flames is excellent!
SurlyCat, 7 years ago
Added 4th Hungry Flames in place of 1 Blur of Blades. Taken 1 Rampaging Ferocidon out of sideboard to put 2nd Blur of Blades in, as never use 3 Ferocidons. Hungry Flames has hugely improved the effectiveness of the deck, much more consistent now.DotaFerShota, 7 years ago
Comments and suggestions are welcome! The land base is budget, but with the few upgrades I've added I haven't had too much trouble getting all the colors I need (most of the time).Harsh Times

Sorry y'all but I've come with some sad, sad news. Infect is in witness protection, Abzan Company has gotten some facial work done. Storm's step-dad Baral is bringing out the best in his new kids and Death's Shadow is following me everywhere I go. Eldrazi is all up in Karn's business and Valakut's erupting again and Modern's right square in the danger zone. And last but not least this little Merfolk list apparently has a bigger, badder brother thats a little on the greener side. Good news tho! This list is still competitive and killing it thanks to a little card called Ceremonious Rejection! This is a fantastic card and should be a minimum of a 2 of in ANY blue deck IMO. Hope y'all still follow this page for updates because... well because its awesome !! Much love to all my fishermen!!!! ,Added things to the Maybe Board

Played on XMage last night and lost all 4 games I played. 0-2 against a tron deck with Chalice of the Void which pretty much stopped me cold. The other deck i faced was mono white humans. First game i had a horrible draw and got wiped before i could do anything. Game 2 i had to mulligan and got a good second hand. My opponent had an answer for everything i did, killing off one of my sisters, destroying my Bitterblossom, and my favorite... countering my Sanguine Bond when i had an Exquisite Blood already in play.... this deck needs some removal bad along with some more token spells. Not sure what to add yet but looking at removing Blood Artist, Exquisite Blood, Underworld Coinsmith, and possibly Nantuko Husk. That would give me 14 slots to fill with removal and/or token spells... or something else im not thinking of.Wednesday Night Modern Top-8 4-1

Round 1 : U/W ControlGame 1: My opening seven was good: lands, Search for Tomorrow, Sakura-Tribe Elder, counterspells. Early on I ramp as he struggles to get past 5-6 mana. towards the late game Hunting Wilds puts my mana advantage to an extreme. The next turn, I cast Scapeshift with Cryptic Command + Remand back-up. Game 2: Turn 1 Search for Tomorrow, My opponent plays a turn 2 Snapcaster Mage to act as a beater. He leaves mana open on on turn 3, but I decide to cast Thrun, the Last Troll with the expectation that Supreme Verdict is likely not left in the deck, but if it is and he taps out I can resolve Hunting Wilds to allow me to leverage my mana advantage. But, no Supreme Verdict was cast so I beat my opponent down with Thrun, the Last Troll. Match Ends 2-0 Record 1-0
Round 2 : Grixis Control
Game 1: As with most control decks the plan is spending the early game ramping hard then leveraging the mana difference to force through a Scapeshift. I've found control decks to be a bye game 1 for BTL. Game 2: I could have possibly won this game, He cast a Rakdos's Return for 2 after I cast a Thrun, the Last Troll, unfortunately, I did not have a Remand in hand, so I had to discard Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle I scooped when he Surgical Extraction the valakut, and cast Tasigur, the Golden Fang. There's a chance I could have fought through and won with my Thrun, the Last Troll, but it would have been very difficult. In order to preserve enough time for game 3 I decided to go to the next game. Game 3: This game went like Game 1, after I sacrificed a Sakura-Tribe Elder and he decided to Surgical Extraction them. I thought this was strange, later in the game EOT I cast Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir to either force through a Scapeshift or tax their mana. He Cryptic Command teferi, I cast Remand he casts Countersquall he wins the counter battle, but is forced to tap out. I was slightly worried about Surgical Extraction on Steam Vents

Round 3: Merfolk
Game 1: His start was somewhat slow, I was able to Cryptic Command to tap + draw to buy an extra turn for Scapeshift to be lethal. Game 2: I kept a somewhat awkward hand, but it had 2 Lightning Bolts and Madcap Experiment I got stuck on 3 lands, but was able to use vendillion clique to draw into the land I needed for Madcap Experiment he had no maindeck answer for Platinum Emperion vendillion clique beat down for the win. Match Ends 2-0 Record 3-0
Round 4 : 4 Color Felidar Guardian
Game 1: I punted. Havent made such a bad mistake in awhile. I lost track of his lifegain due to maindeck Thragtusk, but he had shocked himself enough that Scapeshift + Lightning Bolt would have won. Game 2: t1 Search for Tomorrow, t2 Lightning Bolt on his bird of paradise + suspend Search for Tomorrow, t3 Hunting Wilds, t4 Scapeshift. Game 3: I did not expect Blood Moon out of a 4-color deck. He cast it on turn 2, which screwed me on colors early. I hit my basics, but too late. Match Ends 1-2 Record 3-1
Round 5 : Norin Sisters
Due to some weird pairings due to the drops I got matched up against 0-4 Norin SIsters. I won games 1 and 3 fairly easily, I kept her life below 36 so double Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle would be lethal. Game 2 I was able to stay alive for a long time, but I was not able to find a Scapeshift to put the game away. Match Ends 2-1 Record 4-1

More Creatures, Unfortunately Jace
Violinist, 7 years ago
After some more thinking and experimenting, I've decided to cut Compelling Argument in favor of Navigator's Ruin. Moving to a more creature-focused loadout means it's simply a much more reliable way to mill.
I'm also taking Baral, Chief of Compliance out for now, as Instants and Sorceries have suddenly become the minority in the deck.
I'm gonna experiment with replacing Hour of Promise with Benefaction of Rhonas, on the basis that the lower cost along with the 'and/or' part might fetch more value.
I feel the need to try a lower mana curve, so Overflowing Insight is out, Rogue Refiner is in.
Same goes for Vraska, Relic Seeker. I love Vraska, but the more aggressive direction this is taking, as well as her considerable price tag, means her slot is very provisionally taken by Jace, Cunning Castaway.
Now, I feel like I should specify that I have a deep, irrational loathing of Jace in general. He is the most boring vanilla turdboy who ever did walk the planes. So I expect I'll be finding some way to either include Liliana, or go RUG for Saheeli Rai.
I'm also looking at Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons as a possible promising include, assuming I can come up with a suite to support her. It would make a case for Grasping Dunes, at least.

I recently added Craterhoof Behemoth for “surprise” trample
I’m going to remove the Immaculate Magistrate and Joraga Warcaller for Nettle Sentinel...I am going to push the focus back towards the overrun mechanic
I am also going to try out Westvale Abbey Flip as an alternate threat
Peer Through Depths Testing
beebsman, 7 years ago
As above, testing this card in the place of Sleight of Hand....
UPDATE: So....Peer Through Depths is ok, crazy deep dig. But you cant grab lands if you're starved; and can't get a Baral/Electromancer if you need.
TLDR? I'm back to Sleight of Hand.
