Ertai caught my interest as an Esper commander with a unique ability. There are definitely some aspects to Ertai which would prompt some players to go towards a stax build since his ability is pure control - but at his CMC cost it's a lot more prohibitive. Instead, I opted to try and maximize what I could do for counterspells, relying on a couple of combo win-conditions that can be enabled by sacrificing either Aura Thief or Academy Rector . There's also the Helm + RIP combo that is efficient for Esper to win with while not using doomsday, although RIP is a nonbo with the Aura Thief and Academy Rector lines.

The goal then is simple: control the game until you can assemble one of the three two card combos in the deck. Control frequently runs into issues in 4 player EDH because you run out of cards. My hope is that by having repeated counterspells stapled onto creatures I can get around that drawback.
