I bought Mazirek originally as an engine piece for a failing Shattergang Brothers deck. The deck ended up still being trash after adding him but when I took a closer look at Mazirek, I figured why not give him a try since I already had a lot of cards that went with his theme. Little did I know, I was a Golgari player at heart and Mazirek opened up the world of sacrificing things for a much bigger gain to me. This is by far my favorite deck and one I hope you guys enjoy as well.

The idea of the deck is to start off relatively mid-rangey/staxy. Not building too much but putting yourself in a good place to explode around turn 5-8. Ramp up a lot, get a few token producers and sac outlets out. Use removal on threats, and when your sacrificing have Dictate of Erebos or Grave Pact out. This deck is about controling the board state and making it ideal for you to overpower your opponents with value. Don't play Mazirek until your board state is establish because otherwise he's kind of a sitting duck.

RampWe got dorks Llanowar Elves, Elvish Mystic etc. Birds of Paradise can be added if you have one of those laying around. We got spells, especially one's with the term sacrifice in its text box Harrow, Primal Growth , Crop Rotation. Land's in this deck are very powerful and useful so you'll want Crop Roatation and Sylvan Scrying to fetch Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers or Phyrexian Tower . Speaking of fetches we have quite a few since they also trigger Mazirek's ability. Commander's Sphere can ramp us up and be sacrificed later to draw cards and can trigger Mazirek's ability when he is in play.

TokensTokens here are usually just blockers and sac fodder. Awakening Zone, From Beyond, and Bitterblossom are generally cards you'll want to play early. The first two can also help ramp you up! Later on Mycoloth can help you produce a ton of tokens for sacrificing.

Sac outletsAshnod's Altar, Phyrexian Tower , Attrition Birthing Pod, Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, High Market, Mycoloth, Viscera Seer all give us ways to sacrifice things at instant speed (except Birthing Pod). Sylvan Safekeeper can keep Mazirek and other important creatures alive while triggering Mazirek.

Controlling the BoardNot much we can do against true control decks but we can do a good job of artifacts, enchantments and creatures through Beast Within, Archfiend of Depravity, Toxic Deluge, Merciless Executioner.

Card DrawNecropotence, Skullclamp, Smothering Abomination, Grim Haruspex, Reprocess . Add more if need be.

WinningSacrificing enough things and swinging for lethal with Mazirek one or two times is generally my favorite way to win. Also sacrificing big creatures to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord is fun too.

You can also win through infinite combo using the stack and persist to get infinite sac triggers. Have Mazirek in play, a sac outlet, and either Woodfall Primus or Puppeteer Clique. Sac Primus or Clique to a repeatable sac outlet (Ashnod's, Viscera Seer), put the +1/+1 counter on the creature first then the -1/-1 persist trigger. They cancel and you get a creature back with no counters! Repeat as necessary.

Winning through stax is casting either Pox or Death Cloud . These two usually put our oppenents so far back that they concede. If they dont', we'll were getting sacrifice triggers from all our opponents so your creature's can grow insanely large.
