Welcome to the Dominarian Farmer’s Almanac feat. Lord Windgrace . Here we have the pinnacle of farming techniques by a master cultivator. He knows how to utilize his lands, how to really get the biggest bang for your buck. Much like his fellow pioneers of the forest regions, He knows the best way to prepare his farmland is through the Fire-Fallow or slash and burn technique. First he cuts down the trees then burn the brush, generating extra resources. Then the land is ready for some basic reclamation and tending, readying it for an excellent harvest. Finally, you must make sure that you don’t have much competition, which you can do by sharing your excellent farming technique with your neighbors, (though they may not be prepared for it.) Finally, you can celebrate during a plentiful harvest moon and share your new-found wealth with the world.

This farming technique can greatly increase your seasonal yield with the right toolset. Not everyone who utilizes this style of cultivation will be prepared for the unique method of prepping the land, as you will likely reveal to opposing interests. With this handy almanac you too can become a profitable farmer with this innovative and effective farming method.

The Gardeners

First we need to introduce the authors of the #1 Almanac in Dominaria.

Lord Windgrace
The lead gardener. He provides us with an incredible draw engine and the ability to revitalize lands that have been burned. He enables many of our landflow permanents and ensures the deck runs well.

Nissa, Vital Force
She tends our lands into killing machines and can easily provide us with a landfall drawing incredibly easy.

Nissa, Who Shakes the World
She allows us to cultivate a little more out of the Forests that we farm. She also has the ability to turn our lands into killing machines with a little more permanence. She can also protect our lands from our Raze spells and provide a large landfall late in the game.

Wrenn and Six
A low cost gardener who gives us the ability to revitalize our burned lands. If things go right he can give our Raze spells retrace, which would be devastating to our opponents.

Landflow

The meat and potatoes of Windgrace’s Fire-Fallow Technique. It boils down to a few simple steps. Scouting the land in order to plot new fields. Producing resources from initial clearing of future farmland. Burning the fields to fertilize the soil and ease of towing. Finally, grooming the land for crop production.

Scout

• Azusa, Lost but Seeking / Exploration / The Gitrog Monster / Mina and Denn, Wildborn / Oracle of Mul Daya The main limit of a deck based on land movement is the once per turn limit. So we need a little help to speed this up. These cards only specify playing a land, with no restriction with location of land.
• Budoka Gardener Similar to the previous, this card only works with the hand.
• Courser of Kruphix / Crucible of Worlds / Ramunap Excavator Access lands from the deck of graveyard. The graveyard is especially important to get the most out of landfall and “gravefall” in a turn.
• Ulvenwald Hydra / Sakura-Tribe Elder One-off land searching.
• Sword of the Animist The ultimate gardeners tool. Provides a landfall with every attack.
• Elvish Reclaimer Land Searching that triggers a "gravefall," which is reusable each turn. Stacks the graveyard full of lands to recur later in the game

In an average game you can get around 3-5 landfalls per turn. At the very best you can have 20+ landfalls in a turn, with about 10 “gravefalls”

Cultivate

• Nesting Dragon / Omnath, Locus of Rage / Rampaging Baloths Generate tokens with each land drop. With an average of 3-5 per turn during the midgame.
• Field of the Dead A land with landfall, What! Produce a zombie with each land that enters one the 7 unique threshold is met. Easy to set up and abuse in the midgame.
• Undergrowth Champion / Ob Nixilis, the Fallen / Avenger of Zendikar Creatures that power up themselves and others with each land fall, with a bonus of life drain on Ob Nixilis.
• Lotus Cobra Tier two of landfall abilities. Cobra helps out more in the early game than late game.
• Blighted Woodland / Bloodstained Mire / Verdant Catacombs / Wooded Foothills / Prismatic Vista Sac lands that generate extra landfall and a “gravefall” with each use. These are the source of double digit landfalls in a single turn.
• Nurturing Peatland Canopy lands get new colors. Sac land that lets us draw a card.
• Scapeshift / Traverse the Outlands Extremely powerful land searching in a land matters deck. Scapeshift is ultimately the stronger of the two for triggering landfall and “gravefall” and setting Lord Windgraces Land recursion ability, for extra land triggers.
• Realms Uncharted Basic land searching with a “gravefall” component
• Doubling Season The majority of our landflow triggers are either tokens or counters, so this is an autoinclude.

Burn

• The Gitrog Monster / Turntimber Sower The first two of the gravefall component of our landflow strategy. These two will trigger when a land hits the graveyard from anywhere, however they will only trigger once at a time.
• Titania, Protector of Argoth The third gravefall creature requires that the land be on the field just before hitting the grave, however this restriction comes with an unrestricted trigger potentital at a single time.
• Sylvan Safekeeper / Command Beacon / Field of Ruin / Strip Mine / Wasteland / Ghost Quarter Lands can get stuck on the battlefield, so we need the means to send them to the graveyard on command.
• Scapeshift / Blighted Woodland / Bloodstained Mire / Verdant Catacombs / Wooded Foothills Trigger “gravefall” and landfall at the same time.
• Lord Windgrace / Ash Barrens / Canyon Slough / Sheltered Thicket / Tectonic Reformation These can trigger “gravefall” of Gitrog and Turntimber, but won’t trigger Titania. Trade a land for a card or two, now with Tectonic reformation every land can have cycling.
• Hissing Quagmire The only manland I felt worth adding the deck within our colors. Quagmire can trade your land for a creature with deathtouch and trigger a “gravefall” at the same time.

Revitalize

• Mina and Denn, Wildborn / Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar Mina and Denn and Multani provide some means to return lands to the hand in order to maintain a continuous land fall.
• Golgari Rot Farm / Gruul Turf / Rakdos Carnarium The Bounce lands provide a means to max out land plays every turn by exchanging one for another if you don’t have sufficient access to other lands.
• Ramunap Excavator / Crucible of Worlds / Lord Windgrace / Wrenn and Six "Gravefall” cards have a tendency to stress our available lands if they aren’t supported by other means. Our relatively unfettered access to Windgrace greatly reduces this problem.
• The Mending of Dominaria / Splendid Reclamation / World Shaper One off access to every land in our graveyard, can trigger a massive landfall if set up appropriately.

Raze the Competition

What’s the difference between Fire-fallow farming and razing? Preparation. Windgrace’s success isn’t all through ethical means, as his opponents surely know. Agriculture is a cat-eat-cat business.

Raze

• Ember Swallower / Destructive Force / Thoughts of Ruin / Wildfire / Boom / Bust These set provide massive devastation to our opponents resources, while we can easily bounce back. We also end benefitting more with our “gravefall” creatures.
• Obliterate / Decree of Annihilation Similar to above, but more extreme. Save these for the times when you want no one to have fun.
• Herald of Leshrac A unique method to remove your opponent access to their own lands. This is will likely be temporary, though we can sack our opponents lands to any of our sac outlets or the above group.
• World Breaker / Decimate / Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire These give access to destruction of multiple card types, to help remove problems on the board. Otherwise we have access to targeted land destruction.
• Field of Ruin / Strip Mine / Wasteland / Ghost Quarter Lands destroying Lands. Targeted destruction with a “gravefall” trigger. Combined with Windgrace and our other graveyard access cards, these provide a perennial source of land destruction.

Recover

• Ramunap Excavator / Crucible of Worlds / Lord Windgrace / Wrenn and Six Allows us to keep a land base while destroying our opponents
• The Mending of Dominaria / Splendid Reclamation / World Shaper One-off return of lands in the graveyard. These with our raze cards create a large landfall boost.

Harvest

With the abundance of harvest you will soon have, you need something to spend all of your money on. Here are some suggestions:

• Avenger of Zendikar One shot creation of creatures based on the number of lands on the field.
• Dragonmaster Outcast This card is mana-cheap and provides a 5/5 flier as long as we have 6+ lands, which is not hard to accomplish.
• Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar / Ulvenwald Hydra / Dokai, Weaver of Life These creatures get stronger the more lands you have on our field, and all add a slightly different extra ability on top of that.
• Gyrus, Waker of Corpses / Heroes' Bane / Primordial Hydra / Hungering Hydra / Savageborn Hydra By the mid to late game, we can have a crazy number of lands on the field, so we need something to sink the mana into. That is where my favorite creature-type excels, Hydras. Some provide a single use sink while others provide a multi-use sink. All have the potential to quickly become threatening.
• Torment of Hailfire One of our non-creature mana sink. Hailfire is one of our most dangerous late game cards.
• Ugin, the Spirit Dragon An addition due to a clerical error, this is another big mana spell with variable uses that is handy in any situation.

Weeding and Repair

This destructives style of farming appreciates some unique tools to round out some of the rough edges. Here are a few:

• Animate Dead / Soul of Innistrad While this isn’t a creature focused deck, they do have the abilities we want to trigger. Occasionally we will want them back in our hand or graveyard if they die.
• Windgrace's Judgment Flavorful method to remove problems cards. Too bad it doesn’t target lands.
• Casualties of War Like Judgement but now we can target lands too.
