TTS - Chulane cEDH (iCameo)

Commander / EDH

The_Brew_Crew

This deck was created for The Brew Crew's The Top Shelf serries. This is a cEDH list which uses Chulane's triggered ability to set up powerful board states that can lead to immediate wins. In this primer we will briefly go over these loops, but for a full look at card justifications and the decklist please take a look at our article on this deck as well as our casual Chulane build. The article can be found at the following link:

Full discolsure this deck was inspired by Joking101's Chulane Primer which can be found here: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/5pYP-HNgsUyl2NfZSBXkFg

For those who don't know, the name iCameo comes from our six main win cons:

Intruder Alarm

Cloudstone Curio

Aluren

Mana Breach

Earthcraft

Overburden

Cards in Play:

Chulane, Teller of Tales and Intruder Alarm

Dorks that tap for or

Cards in Hand: Shrieking Drake or Whitemane Lion

The Combo:

  1. Tap the mana dorks
  2. Cast either the drake or the lion, targeting itself with the bounce
  3. Chulane triggers
  4. Untap everything and repeat

Result: We are able to draw our deck and put all our lands into play

Cards in Play: Chulane, Teller of Tales and Cloudstone Curio

Either Earthcraft or Lotus Cobra

Cards in Hand: Creatures that cost , , or and at least 2 lands.

The Combo: 1. Play the one mana creature 2. Put a land into play with Chulane's ability 3. Profit mana with Lotus Cobra or tap the dork with Earthcraft 4. Play a second one mana creature and return to step 1.

Result: If we have Earthcraft this combo will allow us to loop it infinitely and draw our deck/put all our lands into play. If we are using Lotus Cobra this loop will probably be self sufficient enough to get to lands like Gaea's Cradle or find Mana Crypt and Mox Diamond to generate mana and get to the end of our deck.

Cards in Play: Aluren and Chulane, Teller of Tales

Cards in Hand: Whitemane Lion or Shrieking Drake

The Combo: 1. Play the Drake or the Lion for free 2. Draw a card and play a land if able 3. Return to step 1.

Result: This is the easiest and best loop in my opinion. This will allow us to draw our deck and play all of our lands.

Cards in Play:Chulane, Teller of Tales and Mana Breach or Overburden, as well as a producing land.

Cards in Hand: Shrieking Drake

The Combo: 1. Cast the Drake 2. When cast or ETB, return the land in play 3. Chulane puts the land into play and draws a card 4. Drake bounces itself 5. Repeat

Result: We are able to draw through our entire deck this way. This can lead directly into another one of our end states if we are prepared for that or Lotus Cobra and Earthcraft can hop back in to help us generate infinite mana from lands entering or tapping our creatures. These are the hardest lines to run and there are a lot of sneaky ways to wrap the game even if you only have the one worth of lands to start with.

Cards in Play: Chulane, Teller of Tales, Earthcraft, a land that can produce .

Cards in Hand: Shrieking Drake

The Combo: 1. Play the Drake 2. Chulane triggers to draw a card and put a land into play if you can 3. Drake targets itself 4. In response tap the drake to untap the land 5.Repeat from 1.

Result: We get to play all our lands and draw all of our cards.

Cards in Play: Chulane, Teller of Tales, Lotus Cobra, 1 mana.

Cards in Hand: Shrieking Drake and Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

The Combo: 1. Play the drake 2. Put Oboro into play and draw a card with Chulane's ability 3. Lotus Cobra makes a mana 4. Drake targets itself to bounce. 5. Oboro taps to bounce itself 6. Repeat from step one with Lotus Cobra mana to pay for the Drake.

Result: This is a spicy one. You pretty much have to pivot into another line from this one, as it doesn't profit mana or do anything other than deck you. Gaea's Cradle and our zero mana artifacts are your best friends for pivoting.

Once we have completed one of these two loops we should have almost all our cards in our hand, all our lands in play, and be able to generate any amount of mana we want. We don't want to draw our full deck because Cephalid Coliseum and other tech to counter Thassa's Oracle might end up killing us. Noxioius Revival, Eternal Witness, and Cloudstone Curio combined with any other creature can create a loop where we build our library back up and recover any cards lost along the way if you do end up needing to draw the whole thing. But, in order to actually kill everyone we should look to one of two pathways to win the game:

Finale of Devistation to turn all of our creatures into massive hasty beaters

or

Destiny Spinner with all our lands and enchantments in play to turn our lands into massive hasty beaters.

Then swing out and end the game. If your table runs a lot of protection against combat wins you can always swap in an Aetherflux Reservoir or another win con that works well with the deck's pre existing strategies.

That is about all you need to know to pilot the deck. Reminder to check out our article on why we chose the cards we did for the rest of our deck. You'll also get a sweet look at a budget Primal Surge Chulane list. It's cool, trust me:
