Time for a revamp!

Previously this deck was designed for a semi-competitive environment with friends, but still playing for money.

Times have changed.

At the date of writing this, at my locals I just got back from, we had our usual tournament. Except I saw my first,eye-openning glimpse at a fully competitive deck. As usual I went undefeated until the last round, and so did he, playing an Arcum mono blue deck. And we played, and it was a glorious fight. Eventually I won 2-0, but I came to a realization.

I should not have won.

Game 1 we both went off, it was a hard-fought battle, with me knocking him down to 1 before he went off. Game 2 and 3 he stumbled by 1 turn on mana, and it was enough for me to get in for lethal.

That game made me realize what I need to make this deck into for it to keep up with the tournaments, as he is likely to become a regular to these. And frankly, I am competitive as hell. A challenge has been laid down and I will stay on top.

The deck was previously a combo-orientated deck, sacrificing control aspects for more ways to find combo peices, and a lot of win-more cards. That is over. I am making this deck into a control-combo deck with the full intention to dismantle any deck it faces against, whether it's aggro artifacts or oloro control.

The first step; cut the fat. High Tide, Fyndhorn Elves, Mana Reflection, Defense of the Heart, Caged Sun, Garruk, Primal Hunter, Sylvan Caryatid, Seahunter, Scavenging Ooze, Progenitor Mimic, Myojin of Life's Web, Master of the Pearl Trident, Master Biomancer, Lord of Atlantis, Kruphix, God of Horizons, Craterhoof Behemoth, and Coralhelm Commander were cut for being too slow, situational, win-more, or just generally ineffective.

Now, in needs to go more control cards. What's more control than counters? No no no. First, ramp. The deck needs to do 2 things; Speed itself up, and slow the opponent down. In is going Harrow, Mana Crypt, and Kodama's Reach.

Next, more counterspells. Games will no longer be expected to be long, drawn out, so mana leak will be a solid addition, as will memory Lapse, my preferance over remand. But that's just me. In addition, I'm adding Hinder, Spell Crumple, and delay.

Another rapid hybridization is definitely useful. Pongify, in. Also, apparently wasn't using rapid. Rapid hybridization, in.

Now for some extra turn bullshittery. Time warp? In. Time Stretch? in. But who likes to just manipulate their own turn? Time stop, in.

A few more delicious pieces of combo food are going in. Peregrine Drake, Venser, Shaper Savant, Phantasmal Image, Palinchron, in.

Now for the last 4 cards. Of those 4, Blue Sun's Zenith will be one. Archaeomancer, another. In. Finally, a card to help tutor all my hey-i-win-now-stuff. Mystical tutor, in. Last one, the most powerful enchantment in the game. Survival of the fittest, in.

Went to my local EDH Tournament, I'll just write out the results.

round 1; Medomai Control.

Poor guy was new to the game, didn't stand a chance. Afterwards I gave him a good deal of cards to help upgrade his deck, and a bit of advise. He left with a better deck, and I hope more interest in the format. I won 2-0

1-0,2-0

round 2; Slivers Both games I started off with bullshit openning plays. Game 1 I played forest, sol ring, lotus pedal, green sun zenith for 2, fauna shaman. Game 2 I went island, sol ring, mana vault, simic signet. He drew amazing hands both times but it just didn't matter. I won 2-0.

2-0,4-0

Round 3; Damia This guy is a old friend of mine, we play absurdly often, and know eachother's decks just as well as we know our own. I won in a 2-1, where both games I won I ramped hard into my combos, and when I lost, got mana screwed. 3-0,6-1

Round 4; Finals; Arcum Dagson I should NOT have won this match. Game 1 was a close fight, with him barely coming out on top after being put to 1 life. Game 2 and 3 I got and started triggering scute mob, protected it, kept his commander off the board, and won.

4-0, 8-2.

I won 25$ store credit, with which I got 3 packs of M15 (pulled chord of calling, phytotitan, and that dragon anthem, as well as a couple slivers) , a dissention godless shrine, and food.
