Maybeboard

Well, it was about time I updated this deck description.

Originally, this deck was designed around the 1v1 Duel Commander rules, found here. However, after playtesting extensively, I found the deck simply wasn't able to keep up with faster aggro, tempo based or voltron Sigarda, Host of Herons decks. As a result, rather than simply taking the deck apart, I'm converting it into a multiplayer focused deck,

The idea of the deck now, rather than play hard control, is using my opponents' resources against them while whittling away at their libraries through mill effects. Due to the decks' new multiplayer focus, I've tried to make this mill effects affect everyone at once. However, Traumatize and Jace, Memory Adept remain in the deck, despite them only hitting one player. This is due to the sheer efficiency of these cards at milling 100 card decks, Traumatize especially. Resolving a traumatise against a Kaalia of the Vast or Mayael the Anima deck with either Lazav, Dimir Mastermind on the field or Body Double in hand is sure to give good results for example.

This deck has two main win conditions. The first is the combo of Duskmantle Guildmage and Mindcrank. This creates an infinite mill effect and can be started by the Guildmage itself with enough mana. Also of note is that both pieces of the combo can be tutored with the Transmute effect of Shred Memory, although this is not the cards' primary function.

The secondary win condition is a large Mind Grind , usually fuelled by the old Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers combination. Late game, with those two lands, I can usually Mind Grind for around 25+ lands. Usually more than enough to mill every player at the table.

Finally, the deck can also win through Commander Damage with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind himself. Although this is more dependant on the decks I'm facing. Against the previously mentioned Kaalia of the Vast or Mayael the Anima decks, this becomes a distinct possibility, due to those decks typically containing large creatures. However, against an Azami, Lady of Scrolls deck for example, this is extremely unlikely.

The first main area I feel this deck could improve in is in the sheer increase in the number of creatures in the deck. After playtesting recently, I've noticed this deck can suffer at the hands of aggro decks. Having more creatures as part of the 99 I feel could help this problem.

Another area I'd like to improve on is mass milling. Apart from Mind Grind and Shared Trauma the rest of the mill provided by the deck is conditional, (Mindcrank/Consuming Aberration) or only focuses on one player at a time (Jace, Memory Adept/Traumatize).

If you can think of any thing that may improve these issues, be sure to leave a comment. It will be greatly appreciated :). Thank you for looking this deck over and reading this description.

Updates Add

As the updated description says, this deck is now mulitplayer focused. Due to the vast majority of the previous comments being related to the previous 1v1 orientated decklist, adding this update to clear out the old comments for a new discussion space.
