Maybeboard

The plan is simple: Stick an early Doran onto what should hopefully be an empty board. From there, back it up with a whack ton of removal spells to keep your opponents' creatures at bay. Behind the Scenes , Meekstone , Marble Titan and Crackdown all serve as ways to ensure a clear path to the face.

I tend to like to bounce around between decks regularly, and I hadn't built Doran in 6 years or more. I thought that while other players at the table are posturing and trying to set up combos and whatnot, I would just slam a 5/5 on turn 2 or 3 and put the early pressure on. Turns out it works, and I'm able to inflict heavy damage on people in the opening of the game. That can also serve to make spells like Ad Nauseam and Necropotence harder to use, since they care so much about your life total.

In addition to the early pressure, he's also inexpensive to cast, which allows you to replay him multiple times in the game if he gets killed. The only problem that can come from my self-imposed restriction of a hard cap at 4CMC is that in the later stages, you're wanting to hold up mana for removal spells to help prevent you from dying.
