A Most Villainous Experiment

Commander / EDH*

have been playing EDH for a couple years now but have based most of my decks off of some sort of primer I found on the internet (Animar, Brago, and Breya are my current decks). However, I LOVE the idea of partner commanders and have wanted to assemble one incredibly bad.

In addition, I have been absolutely enthralled with two other deck archetypes. First is wheel. I was tempted to play a Nekusar deck but I didnt like the face everyone makes when he is slapped down in the command zone. I also didn't like the idea of the "slow ping" of damage every round pissing everyone off. So, I have been hunting for a way to play wheel while avoiding Nekusar. Second, I try to listen to as many EDH podcasts as possible and between The Command Zone, Commanderin, and Commanders Brew I got crazy excited about their decks based around casting a spell that is not the commander. I love the cards Villainous Wealth and Epic Experiment, of which the podcasts have discussed. Upon hearing the Epic Experiment episode of commanders brew I realized I was in love with Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix and generating huge mana to toss down huge X spells. However, I didnt love their choice of a partner commander (Ludevic).

Instead, I realized that one of my other favorite partners, Vile Smasher the Fierce, allows me to conveniently play BOTH Villainous Wealth and Epic Experiment in one deck! Lastly, I saw that one of the best ways to get Kydele generating PREPOSTEROUS amounts of mana is to wheel to draw. So, by I have mashed these ideas together to create a deck of pure hilariousness. I have my other decks to be "good". This deck is meant to be chaotic. Its meant to do ridiculous things like drop a Villainous wealth for 60, or wheel 70 cards back to back. Its meant to be big and hilarious, slinging tons of spells and getting mana high to cast either of the two Namesake cards or Exsanguinate to finish the game.

However, I have hit an issue. I am 4 cards over (assuming 37 lands) and have no clue what else to cut. I am also not sure if I need to force in more removal/counterspells to interact with the board instead of just sitting in the corner playing my own game. Lastly, I am looking for any advice on Ramp/Mana base. Based on the Commanders Brew episode, I liked the idea of putting most of my lands as forests and most of my ramp as instant/sorcery ramp in green. Currently, the tappedout deck has 33 forests just as placeholders, which need to be corrected. Though these are my primary issues, I would absolutely love any other suggestions anyone has.

Meta Power Level: Casual Competitive I would say. No one has rolled up with Zur or Narset but I have seen a turn four Jin Gitaxias shut down a game for instance.

Meta Example: Common decks include Gitrog Monster, Nin, the Pain Artist, Derevi. No real Stax decks to be seen and only a few Voltron decks that smack down the Combo players.

Deck Objectives: 1st goal is to ramp using green instant/sorceries to fix mana and get some of the card draw/wheel engines going. Next, start dropping wheel effects and crossing your fingers you hit more wheel effects until you are running low on lands to tap for colored mana and have a "large" kydele. At that point, a recursion spell or tutor are used to retrieve a large X spell (Villainous Wealth/Epic Experiment/Exsanguinate) and try to dominate the board.

Deck Win Conditions: There are a number of wincons. 1) Drop a huge X spell and cross your fingers. 2) Wheel people to death with "Nekusar" pain-like effects (can occur this way if Epic Experiment is dropped for large X) 3) Generation of tokens via metallurgic Summons or Talrand which when coming off of Epic Experiment can go wide for a win.

Absolutely willing to change the deck! I would like to stick to, however, these core values: 1) Wheel effects 2) Spell slinging with limited creatures (I want to feel like a Wizard!) 3) Villainous Wealth + Epic Experiment 4) Commanders. I like the commanders I have but if someone could make a compelling argument to replace them I would be open to it.

Cards that were close to making the cut are in the maybeboard, but I think I am happy not having them in.
