Ahoy all! This is My Surrak Dragonclaw deck built to maximize fun!

A little back-story

This deck used to be two; I had both an Animar, Soul of Elements deck and a Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder deck. The Animar deck got so consistent and combo-rific that I just wasn't feeling it anymore (to be fair I had been playing it since I bought the precon in 2010 or whenever that happened). The Yidris deck cascaded so many times that I always ended up with the same cards in play, so even though I wasn't actually combo-ing the hand vomit felt like a combo. No way of slicing it; both started taking twenty minute turns while playing briskly, so they had to go.

Enter Surrak Dragonclaw . I hate Blue, and I didn't want this turning into a combo-tastic temur deck that nobody wanted to play against, so I decided that I needed to find the funnest cards I could and eliminate the things that everyone hates, especially in these colors.

What the deck doesn't do:

Infinite Combos

If there's any way to combo off in this deck I don't see it. I'm not running Palinchron , no Eternal Witness , no Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker . Basically, if there were well known combos associated with it, I left it out. Not even a Deadeye Navigator to be found.

Take extra turns

I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, I just don't like it when my opponents are sitting there watching me play Magic. Ranking this one as "Not Fun" unless you're using Stitch in Time or, my favorites, Final Fortune and Last Chance .

Tutor

Pretty much same as above. Looking through a deck and then shuffling takes a lot of time. I want the deck and the universe to decide what I'm playing, so no tutors. I hear some of you saying "hey, what about land tutors, you're running explosive vegetation" and to you I say "... touché!", that's right, I'm a hypocrite just like everyone else.

Counter Everything

Who wants to run a simple Counterspell ? Not me, leave it out! Gimme Stubborn Denial !

What the deck does do:

Interact with the opponent

Now, to be fair I prefer the more whacky forms of opponent interaction. For instance; I like to interact with cards like Liar's Pendulum . There's nothing better than looking over at your opponent as he's playing his Expropriate and saying "Hey! I have a response! shuffle shuffle Do you think I have a Mountain in my hand?". You can tell whether you want to continue playing against that opponent depending on whether, after you drop that line, you encounter the eye of the tiger or the dulcet stare of the dairy cow.

My other favorite card in this deck is Master of Predicaments . Again, another "Guessing" card, which is hilarious. Especially once you reveal your hand to everyone, so the trick is to attack the guy that is paying the least attention, or just spin the wheel.

Even the card draw requires an opponent's input. If you throw down Fact or Fiction or Sphinx of Uthuun you have to get someone to sort those piles. Plus, when you play Rhystic Study you have to ask your opponent "Did you pay one for that", which is kind of like interaction. Plus voting is whole-table interaction; Selvala's Stampede is one of my favorite cards.

Play Cards off the Top of My Deck

Yeah, I run Sunbird's Invocation , See the Unwritten , and Maelstrom Wanderer so that I can play a cascade deck without running Maelstrom Wanderer as my general. DEAL WITH IT!

Abuse Creatures

Have you ever used a Djinn of Wishes to get an Intet, the Dreamer ? You should. Plus, there are things like Xenagos, God of Revels and Malignus in here. Can't really go wrong. Plus, you tend to gather ire throughout a game, so a surprise blocker like Surrak Dragonclaw sometimes comes in handy.

Clash! If you've never played Captivating Glance or Recross the Paths then you need to get in on this action!

This deck is meant to be fun. Don't worry about the small stuff. Just play the top cards of your deck, and have a good time! Swing a bunch, swing a little, but swing you shall. Now get out there and punch some bears!
