Liar's Pendulum

Artifact

(2), Tap: Name a card. Target opponent guesses whether a card with that name is in your hand. You may reveal your hand. If you do and your opponent guessed wrong, draw a card.

I would say focus on etb effects, and graveyard recursion like Eternal Witness, Greenwarden of Murasa, and Recollect
Use different dorks for ramp since they can be doubled, and add some 2 cmc rocks for ramp.
Finally id recommend getting rid of the counterspells for control, and include a Steel Hellkite, as well as Song of the Dryads among your control cards.

I typically say 35 lands, and 10 ramp will get you out fast, and reliably. Somewhere about as many creatures as lands, and 10 of any theme such as removal, draw, equipment, etc.. will get you to see that kind of effect reliably and generally early. 15 or more if you want to see it multiple times in many games.

Dont forget reusable artifact draw with stuff like Coercive Portal, Cosmos Elixir,Lifecrafter's Bestiary, Liar's Pendulum, and Staff of Nin

and these rocks
Arcane Signet, Star Compass, Coldsteel Heart, Wayfarer's Bauble, Mind Stone

You just gotta read through a few forum threads. Or go the hardcore route and just scour Gatherer to find the gems

Arcane Encyclopedia is sorta the bar that I evaluate draw engines against. It's not a bad card, but that's basically the bar. Anything that's worse should not be played but anything that's as good or better is probably ok. I played a lot of mono white, so the context is largely the same. When draw engines get cheaper than Arcane Encyclopedia they also get more restrictive, so just pick a few of the ones that fit your deck.

Jar of Eyeballs, Mazemind Tome, Phyrexian Portal, Endless Atlas, Treasure Map  Flip, Azor's Gateway  Flip, Journeyer's Kite, Thaumatic Compass  Flip, Temple Bell, Liar's Pendulum, Bonder's Ornament, Eye of Yawgmoth, Icon of Ancestry, Phyrexian Grimoire and prolly a bunch more I missed.

Remember that when you play red you have access to cards like Faithless Looting, so just getting lands is fine.

There are also a few good 4 mana draw engines. Coercive Portal, Outpost Siege, Karn, Scion of Urza, Endless Horizons come to mind.

Alternatively, theres always the option of just doubling down on Skullclamp and play equipment tutors to always have it, but if it were me I would try to utilize your cool commander ;)

Lastly, I noticed you run a lot of tapped lands. Since you are playing a heavy artifact deck, mana fixing actually becomes a lot less of an issue, so I would actually advise you to just run more basics. This deck should run totally fine with three plains or three mountains in your starting hand. But you lose a lot of tempo from playing Stone Quarry and friends.

Hope this helps, and good luck with the deck!

Candles of Leng seems pretty good in a Commander setting.
Carnage Altar and Culling Dais seem really good with all the fodder you'll have for them.
Browbeat is one of my favorite red draw spells.
Coercive Portal could be fun, especially since your commander is indestructible.
Chandra Ablaze also has a good draw ability.
Liar's Pendulum is so much fun.
Solemn Simulacrum is ramp, draw, and fodder all in one.
Combustible Gearhulk, Aggressive Mining, Endbringer, Farsight Mask, Illuminated Folio, Mind's Eye, The Immortal Sun, Vanquisher's Banner, Magus of the Wheel, Wheel of Fate, and Wheel of Fortune all seem like solid draw effects.

Veery sweet deck! But I have a question: Why Liar's Pendulum? I mean your opponents are going to see your hand (which is a bad thing?) What is the plan with this card? Just card draw? There are better cards for that right?

Sure i think Liar's Pendulum will work eventhough it is pretty random. Since you want Thermo-Alchemist in your starting hand anyways that would be a good choice!

Thanks, I added 4xThermo-Alchemist for consistency. Would Liar's Pendulum work here? Seems like a good card draw, especially with the variety of cards in the deck

First of all, thanks for the comment!

For a first deck, I'd say you might want to gravitate towards something less political, or at the very least something less... Game changing. Group hug decks are extremely fun, but in moderation; sometimes people like to be able to play their decks as they intended them, and while group hug can make the game crazy and fun, it's good to have some normal games as well. This deck is very fun to play but it's mainly a good second or third deck to have when you are really feeling zany.

In terms of politics, there are a lot of cards that come to mind that you could play that would work perfectly in EDH for somebody who is new to EDH (for example Vow of Duty/any of the other vows, any form of offering like Intellectual Offering). In addition to cards like this, my advice to somebody who is new to EDH is to give your opponents a choice; Will of the Council is a really fun mechanic for EDH, same with cards like Illicit Auction, Pain's Reward or Liar's Pendulum. My main rule for playing politics in EDH is that you either go all-in or you only dabble slightly. If you try any middle-ground people will become pretty suspicious of you. Silly cards like Wild Ricochet and Puppet's Verdict will always gain you some allies though, since the format heavily rewards creativity.

Anyways, sorry for the wall of text! In short, I'd say you might want to save this deck for a second or third slot because going all-in on group hug definitely requires some finesse.

If you want to still play the politics game, try to start off with things that benefit you as well as other people like the Offerings. Targeted/semi-targeted spells ensure that you are able to help the little guy rather than making the big guy more powerful as well. A great example of stuff like this is either of these two decks: Your Best Evil Friend - EDH Tempting Deals and Chaotic Ruhan - Fun Randomness in EDH. They primarily focus on building your own defense/offense powers, but they still help people out just enough to gain their favour through the use of silly card effects and a bit more of a toned-down group hug style.

Hope this helps, and that you have a blast with whatever deck you end up playing! If you want any more suggestions just feel free to ask!

If you want some ideas that are admitted much more thematic than powerful, Liar's Pendulum, Vexing Arcanix, and Master of Predicaments can add a "riddle of the Sphinx" vibe.
