Sire of Stagnation Discussion

The basic package you want for reaanimator is typically:

Reanimate Animate Dead Necromancy Entomb

Sometimes you want:

Dance of the Dead Buried Alive

I would warn against trying to mix in the tribal stuff unless you are doing the Wanderwine Prophets. The main strategy for reanimator is cheating in creatures that benefit you. So I'd offer up running Jin-Gitaxis and/or Sire Of Insanity and depending on your spice level Sire of Stagnation.

He's got to be one of the most explosive commanders to have out while piloting a storm deck...like pretty much ever. Personally I don't want to change my storm deck to using him because I like having black in my storm deck (with Kess at the helm) but I certainly see the appeal. Seems like an upgrade on the other incarnations of this character that we've seen too.

For me, I just think it's going to be a real fun card to play in other decks....especially in a large multiplayer game...I'll definitely add him to the 99 of at least one or two decks. I've always liked card draw engines that trigger from the opponent just playing magic, the kind that makes opponents groan and it paints a target on my head. Cards like Sire of Stagnation, Heartwood Storyteller, Runic Armasaur, Consecrated Sphinx, Rhystic Study, Nezahal, etc...and this guy fits right into that group.

The first deck I built was this grixis pile of hot garbage with only singleton cards I bought online because they looked cool. I was lucky to have a turn three play of Kederekt Creeper but otherwise the deck did nothing until around turn 7 because it was full of random things like Thraximundar, Nekusar, the Mindrazer, Sire of Stagnation and Malfegor.

I had Final Parting in initially, but I ended up cutting it for Scapeshift. I'll probably end up trading it back in for Sire of Stagnation.

Bloodchief Ascension is a strong card to consider. In multiplayer, it is fairly easy to get the required number of counters. On its own, it helps keep you afloat if you have aggressive opponents. It also has the added advantage of going infinite with Mindcrank.

I think this deck is a bit heavy on large, powerful creatures. That's not really what Phenax wants. Dragonlord Silumgar, Hostage Taker, Sire of Stagnation do not really fit with your general strategy. Kami of the Crescent Moon is a bad card--it provides your opponents cards before you get any extra, and, even then, you're giving away 3+ cards for each 1 you draw.

For creatures, i'd definitely consider Hover Barrier, since it provides a large, flying body for an insignificant cost. Wall of Frost is another great option, as it can survive most combats and hinder an enemy creature.

Sol Ring makes almost every deck better.

Graveyard antics provide a solid backup for mill. Animate Dead, Dance of the Dead, and Reanimate provide options for taking your opponents' now-milled creatures. The Scarab God is another solid option, depending on budget.

Finally, this deck wants graveyard hate, as many EDH decks thrive off graveyard shenanigans which mill makes easier. Relic of Progenitus and Bojuka Bog are both solid choices.

It may not fit the theme, per se, but I have been using Sire of Stagnation in my build and it gives some amazing card draw.
