Shamble Back

Sorcery

Exile target creature card from a graveyard. Put a 2/2 black Zombie creature token onto the battlefield. You gain 2 life.

sleepygordie I took a closer look at your zombie token deck. In my experience, the more things a deck is trying to do the less effective it becomes, even if those things are similar or related. I went ahead and stripped out a number of cards and rebuilt it with budget in mind, first and foremost. This shouldn’t be any more expensive than what you already posted, and while it’s quite a bit different I urge you to consider using it as a template.

4 Wight 6 Swamp 4 Shamble Back 2 Rise from the Tides 4 Mana Leak 6 Island 3 Inquisition of Kozilek 4 Gravecrawler 4 Duress 4 Drowned Catacomb 3 Diregraf Colossus 4 Compelling Deterrence 4 Clearwater Pathway // Murkwater Pathway 4 Cemetery Reaper 4 Bone Shards

A brief description of what it intends to do:

•Lands

Since you’re budget conscious, the best lands (fetches and duals) are out. But there are still better options than what you had, and inexpensive too. Clearwater Pathway  Flip is fantastic because it’s whatever you need at the time you play it, and you already had Drowned Catacomb so that’s still here. Regular basics are the only other lands you want.

•Creatures

Gravecrawler, Wight and Diregraf Colossus were already there so you know why you chose them. I added Cemetery Reaper as a great 3 drop lord that’s non-legendary (you can have multiples in play and they stack), and his ability can make more tokens and can target either player’s graveyard.

•Instants

Compelling Deterrence is great, use 4 copies. Mana Leak is efficient counter magic, especially early game when you’ll need it the most. is easier to cast than Counterspell’s .

•Sorceries

Duress and Inquisition of Kozilek strip your opponent’s hand. Bone Shards is super useful to eliminate a creature threat, and your tokens are easy sacrifices to pay that part of its cost. Shamble Back is cheap and effective token generation and helps recover lost life. Rise from the Tides is too mana intensive to use as anything other than a strong finisher. With all the instants and sorceries here that will end up in your graveyard, when you cast Rise from the Tides you should get a ton of tokens.

With the above list you’ll have early board presence (lots of 1 and 2 drops), plenty of discard and removal to slow down your opponent, and some strong finishers. Bear in mind this is just a quick list I threw together and is by no means optimized. Use it as a template, a building block to customize and make your own.

I would recommend Shamble Back, it is way better than Vile Rebirth it gains life and is also essentially the same card just better. Also with all of these planeswalkers I would recommend either or both Demonic Tutor to get out one of your combos, The Chain Veil is also great.

I wouldn't even play one copy of Shamble Back, not to mention 4! Trying working in better interaction such as discard or removal. Inquisition of Kozilek won't break the bank, Fatal Push would also be good in your deck since you have creatures going to the graveyard so often. And on that note, you should try to work in some Zombies that have enter the battlefield effects or effects when they die.

Here's some cards that you might like. Some are better for sideboard than mainboard, depending on your opponent's decks. Please note that the cards I'm pointing to you here are all 3 CMC or less, so you have a more solid mana curve

White:

Black:

Multi-Color:

I purposely sellected cards that interact with Life, so they can contribute to your main strategy one way or the other. Hope it helps!

Creatures:

  • cut Doomed Dissenter since it can't be recast with your commander, and there are plenty of 2/2 zombies for 2 which can
  • cut Festering Mummy because in commander, most creatures will not die with a couple of -1/-1 counters. Consider keeping it if your opponents play lots of mana dorks such as Llanowar Elves
  • cut Ghoulraiser, your commander casts a zombie of your choice from the graveyard anyway
  • cut Liliana's Steward, targeted discard is bad in commander. You and the targeted opponent lose a card, but your other two opponents don't.

My suggestions for possible replacements are Cemetery Reaper, Cryptbreaker, Rot Hulk, Sidisi, Undead Vizier and Undead Warchief.

Sorceries:

  • cut Increasing Ambition, it simply costs too much mana for the effect in my opinion
  • cut Sealed Fate, it's pretty bad unless your opponent just used a Worldly Tutor or something
  • cut Shamble Back, you don't want to exile your own creatures, and it's a pretty poor form of graveyard hate.

Suggestions: Demonic Tutor or the budget replacement Diabolic Tutor, Windfall, Night's Whisper, Reanimate and Buried Alive

Instants:

Suggestions: Cyclonic Rift, Entomb, Swan Song, Pull from Tomorrow

Artifacts:

  • cut Manalith and Nyx Lotus. When you're in 2 colours, you generally don't want to pay more than 2 mana to ramp. Plus if you ramp on turn 2, you'll have 4 mana on turn 3, allowing you to cast your commander early

Suggestions: I think you're a bit low on ramp, most commander decks want 8-10 ramp pieces. Try Arcane Signet, Dimir Signet, Talisman of Dominance, Fellwar Stone, or Mind Stone.

Enchantments:

  • cut Telepathy, it's not worth using a card to see your opponents hand unless you're playing something specific like maybe Sen Triplets.

Suggestions: Animate Dead, Phyrexian Arena, Rhystic Study

Lands:

  • For semi-budget 2-colour deck, your mana base looks pretty good. I would just cut Skyline Cascade, having it come in tapped isn't worth it for it's effect in commander. You can probably just play a basic island in its place.

If you want to upgrade your mana base, avoid lands that come in tapped like Dimir Guildgate. A few suggestions would be Command Tower, Choked Estuary, Darkwater Catacombs, Drowned Catacomb, Tainted Isle, Underground River, Watery Grave.

I hope that was helpful! Here's a link to my The Scarab God commander deck which has a pretty similar zombie tribal theme to what you have. Take a look through it and maybe you'll find more cards that I forgot to mention. If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask!
