Max_Hammer I do actually have Liliana, Dreadhorde General, she's just in another deck (which would probably benefit more from Liliana of the Dark Realms, it's a whole thing). I think you're right, Varina will involve more milling and would enjoy Liliana, Death's Majesty. I've never considered Liliana, Death Mage, thank you!

You know what, I'm getting a very subtle sense that you don't like Nevvy, but I'm not so sure.

No, I definitely hear you, I think the biggest challenge in building that deck will be to make it fun to play against. The other deck I'm referencing (the one that my Dreadhorde General is currently in), I BEG YOUR F@CKING PARDON??!!! - Razaketh, is so far proving to be a failure at that. I was hoping to make something chaotic that results in a laugh, I ended up building a deck where the wincons involve no interaction with the other players, I just tutor and cast two cards (Fraying Omnipotence and Wound Reflection), and it really doesn't matter what the actual board state looks like. Everyone calls it my bullshit deck, it's not overpowered or tuned in any real way, it just lives in its own world and ends the game way too suddenly to be fun.

So with Nevvy, I like him because he seems to bring that same self-destructive chaos I was hoping to capture (and, down the line, will hope to capture again when I build a Rakdos the Defiler deck), my challenge will be to have that chaos without it feeling like I'm stopping others from playing. It's why I'm exploring a few different commanders, I want to see what leads to the most fun Zombie deck, without it being the exact same Zombie deck that everyone plays/expects to see.

As an aside, I do also have a proliferate deck in mind, but it'd be to pull off shenanigans like Vraska, Scheming Gorgon's -10.

If you don't like that idea, here's some actual suggestions.

For Grimgrin Liliana, Death's Majesty is just a good all-rounder and makes easy-to-sac tokens.

For Varina, same thing. Easy to swing with and not care too much about and it mills. If not her, then Liliana, Death Mage will work well for both of them.

For Nevvy, don't. Don't do Nevvy, I beg of you. At least infect/proliferate kills me quickly through sedation. Please, no-

Iv been using Liliana, Death Mage to bring back Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider to my hand when it gets destroyed.

I mainly play bo1 so a sideboard isn’t used other then for situational instances.

Crystalline Giant is a chump blocker and a possible answer to flying creatures.

I’m playing this on arena so I currently only own 1 copy of Fae of Wishes

Rule of thumb: 1-2 ofs shouldn't be most of your deck. Have core cards and play lots of them. You want your deck as consistent as possible. Even if that means playing 3 Garruks and occasionally having one stuck in your hand.

Liliana, Death Mage is just terrible.

If you have a wishboard, Fae of Wishes needs to be a four-of. It's not worth losing an entire sideboard for one card in a sixty card deck, unless it's bo1 and you don't use your sideboard anyway.

What's Crystalline Giant 's purpose in the deck?

Poison the Cup is subpar removal. Heartless Act , Bloodchief's Thirst , Soul Shatter , and (situationally) Eliminate are all better.

It's not worth having the versatility of the white cards if you can't cast them without The World Tree . Especially because most of them require double pips, so just a Replicating Ring doesn't cut it, and you want to be casting them before you have 6 lands (or 7 for the Orrery). Doomskar is overrated anyway, use Extinction Event or Blood on the Snow as a sweeper that's in your colors.

4th Cultivate > Migration Path .

Well, this isn't a bad start! Usually, Vito decks are Orzhov because white has so much lifegain. If you're determined to stay mono-black though, let's get started.

Underwhelming cards: Piper of the Swarm , Sanitarium Skeleton isn't Standard-legal, and Liliana, Death Mage . These just have nothing to do with your deck and don't belong. Lampad of Death's Vigil , sacrificing a creature is just too steep a cost unless you go the full route of making this a sacrifice deck (not impossible here, although it works best in Rakdos).

Cards to have instead: The fourth Vito. He's absolutely critical to your deck, so you need four even if he's legendary. Your opponents will kill him a lot, so you'll want that extra copy in your hand anyway. Gray Merchant of Asphodel . At a minimum, he drains for two. With Ayara and a lot of static permanents in the deck, it's likely to be a lot more! Duskwielder is a possibility if you needed early things, as is Serrated Scorpion . Marauding Blight-Priest is essentially a redundancy for Vito in this deck.

With a mono-colored mana base, you've got tons of freedom here. Castle Locthwain is an instant four-of in my opinion, and if you're finding that you have turns where you just do nothing, make all your swamps snow and put in Faceless Haven .

zAzen7977 for sure! I’ve always super enjoyed decks exactly like this, and you’ve come up with a really solid list!

Oh man! I totally spaced your Liliana being the Waker. I don’t know why but for some reason I never clicked it and thought you had her Death Mage version: Liliana, Death Mage

So, I totally messed up what her job was. I pretty much knew everything you made this for, and just somehow blanked on her use.

With that said, there’s also Dream Devourer that may help you set anything you really need into exile to avoid having to discard it. But, honestly, I don’t know how or even if he could fit into this deck.

Let me know how this ends up panning out for you in the games you play it in. I’m curious to see what opponent decks this has strength/weakness to. I’ll let you know how I fair when I finally get a few of the cards I’m missing to complete it!

Thanks, my dude! Good luck!

I'm going to make some suggestions but I'll keep the creature list intact. The number one thing that you need is more lands and at the very minimum you should have 37 lands.

These are cards I would take out and in order from first to last:

Clutch of Undeath is too over costed for what the aura does.

Liliana, Death Mage doesn't do much for zombie tribal and is a 6 mana planeswalker. Most other Liliana cards are good for zombie tribal.

Liliana's Scorn is a sorcery and cost too much to remove just one creature.

Cruel Revival is at least an instant but also cost too much.

Gitaxian Probe is a good card but doesn't do much for your deck.

These are the cards I would put in:

4 Swamps and Feed the Swarm. With the amount of removal I had the take out of your list, we desperatly need to put in another one and Feed the Swarm is a great black removal spell. It's biggest downfall is that it is a sorcery and not an instant but black struggles to get rid of enchantments.

Overall you picked some really great cards for zombie tribal and The Scarab God will win games all on his own. I will say that I made the same exact mistake you did with my first deck. I had only 33 lands too and found out the hard way that it was really hard to get my land drops. 37 lands is still on the low side, but it should be a lot smoother. Play with the deck some, see what you do and don't like, and then we can find some more changes for the deck. I'll post one more list of cards that you might want to add in later.
