Dragon themed deck led by Dragonlord Atarka. I prefer her to Atarka, World Render (which I still run in the 99).

Reasons I prefer Dragonlord Atarka over Atarka, World Render:

  • nice etb ability
  • draws less removal
  • more durable with 8 toughness
  • better blocker
  • better art (obviously not important for actual game play)
  • elder dragon (flavor win)

In my experience people recognize Atarka, World Render's one-shot potential which makes her a bigger target for removal. Having the etb ability on Dragonlord Atarka means that, even if she dies before having the opportunity to attack, casting her was likely still useful anyway thanks to the etb ability (unlike World Render which would be a total loss). Sometimes players will even avoid killing Dragonlord Atarka simply because they don't want their creatures/planeswalkers dying to her etb ability.

Overall, Dragonlord Atarka is one of my favorite commanders. I feel she is a highly underplayed commander with many different ways to build around her.
