Mass 2021-Kaldheim Update
Citridon, 4 years ago
As I play this deck more and more, the extra "make piles" cards feel more and more redundant and honestly slow the game in a deck that's already asking our opponents to tank. Changing the piling setup just confuses them more and makes it take more time, so I'm using those slots to just get some decent new spells in instead:
-1 Fortune's Favor, +1 Ravenform
-1 Epiphany at the Drownyard, +1 Alrund's Epiphany
-1 Fact or Fiction, +1 Spectral Deluge
-1 Windreader Sphinx, +1 Enigma Thief
-1 Arbiter of the Ideal, +1 Ormos, Archive Keeper - Another protection against decking out is always welcome

Changelog #2
Flash555, 4 years ago
Out: Kiki-Jiky & Pestermite In: Swan song & Swiftfoot bootsZendikar Rising and Commander Legends
Romer, 4 years ago
Added
- Valakut Exploration - Neat little upgrade to Vance's Blasting Cannons Flip that triggers off landfall. I like that it allows me to play land cards it exiles and if I don't play the card(s), it'll deal a little damage at the end of turn.
- Nahiri's Lithoforming - Strong source of card advantage later in the game.
- Arcane Signet - The ultimate 2-drop mana rock. Now that the price has dropped enough I can add this to mono coloured decks too.
- War Room
- Card advantage on a land. Cheaper to activate than Arch of Orazca and easier, since it doesn't require the City's Blessing.
Removed
- Vance's Blasting Cannons Flip - This is decent but I want to try out Valakut Exploration.
- Reforge the Soul - 5 mana is a lot for this effect and I hated giving my opponents a fresh hand of cards.
- Fire Diamond - Upgrading this to an Arcane Signet which doesn't enter tapped.
- Arch of Orazca - Upgrading this to War Room
which costs less to activate and doesn't require the City's Blessing.

Mystic Forge
Romer, 4 years ago
Kind of surprising I didn't add Mystic Forge long ago but at least I'm doing it now.
Added
- Mystic Forge - Big synergy in this deck, offering pseudo card advantage.
- Arcane Signet - The ultimate 2-drop mana rock. Now that the price has dropped enough I can add this to mono coloured decks too.
Removed
- Reshape - My least favourite of the tutors in here. I still have other artifact tutors, plus the synergy with Mystic Forge is just too much value to pass up.
- Silver Myr - Upgrading this to an Arcane Signet which is pretty similar in this deck except without the summoning sickness.

Acknowledging This Deck's Strength
COOZCOOZCOOZ, 4 years ago
I have to freely admit here, I wasn't expecting to update this deck again until I finally acquired the Needed Fetches (and I still plan too, but SHART are they expensive!)...
But I have to admit, this deck is plenty strong and doesn't entirely NEED to have the fetches to truly succeed. It is plenty strong on its own, and these changes have only solidified that fact. Therefore, I am acknowledging the strength this Deck possesses and giving it another update, as I am doing with most of my decks.
Not a change, but Baleful Strix is now foiled!
Without further ado:
Temple of Deceit, Temple of Malady, Temple of Mystery ---------------------------------------------> Clearwater Pathway Flip, Darkbore Pathway Flip, Barkchannel Pathway Flip:
Temples to Pathways! Scrying is nice, but having tapped lands can really slow down a decks tempo and unfortunately to stay at the top I need as much speed as I can. I do wish I had the bounce lands to allow the true flexibility of these lands come forth, but thats okay: The flexibility of these lands more then make up for it.
Evolving Wilds ---------------------> Prismatic Vista:
Basically, a Straight upgrade. Works as yet another fetch. Very epic.
Mortuary Mire ------------------------------> Mana Confluence:
I'll just be honest here: I think I swapped a basic with Confluence, but I have since taken Mortuary Mire out and I can't recall what exactly was swapped around with Mire cause I still have the same basics. Confluence is way better anyway, even if I do lose some good recursion.
Zendikar's Roil --------------------------------> Scute Swarm:
OH MAN I love me some scutes. They get pretty insane in here, and they bolster a lot of other creatures in this deck and make them a little bit more worthwhile to cast. The last time I played it, I had 192 Scute Swarms. The First time I played it, I had over 500... Its pretty incredible, Actually. I do love the Meme of the Roil, but its too costly and doesn't make nearly enough creatures. Therefore, I am swapping these out.
Risen Reef ----------------------------------> Sakashima of a Thousand Faces:
Risen Reef was a great tool in the deck. However, its Effectiveness diminishes greatly if its played in the late game. There are not TOO many elementals in the deck, so it doesnt go off once or twice.. Except with Sakashima I now have a jack of all trades that can copy any of my creatures and/or even copy Yarok. Its such a great value card in the sense that it basically becomes whatever I need it to be. It's just awesome, and I am glad I have made this swap.
Noxious Gearhulk ---------------------------> Amphin Mutineer:
Gearhulk is incredible, but its a little overcosted. The Real Value of Removal in this deck is when its not only cheap but efficient. And Amphin mutineer is EXTREMELY efficient. It exiles for 4, and in Yarok it can EXILE 2 things for 4.. and if I use its Encore cost, I can potentially exile up to 6 other permanents for 6 mana. Thats some incredible value, even if it can only target non-salamanders (which, as of writing this, is basically a non-issue). This Swap has been very, very epic so far and I am loving it!
Thats all for now! I will provide more Updates as I have them!

Zendikar Rising and Commander Legends
Romer, 4 years ago
Added
- Three Visits - Another great 2 CMC ramp spell that lets me fetch Shock lands.
- Slaughter the Strong - A board wipe that uses sacrifice to get around indestructible. Also, my whole army can usually fit within "total power 4 or less" so this typically has limited to no impact on my own board.
- Bala Ged Recovery Flip - Early game, I'd drop this as a land. Late game, recursion is always welcome.
Removed
- Pir's Whim - I like this spell but is a lot to ramp 1 land. Trading up for Three Visits.
- Retribution of the Meek - Turns out that 'power 4 or greater' can leave a lot of creatures around, including an army of smaller tokens. Trading this in for Slaughter the Strong which I think will do better here.
- Forest

Deck Edit

Hell's Caretaker > Ondu Inversion - Four board wipes are enough and the rest are either lower-costed, more flexible or just downright better. Hell's Caretaker brings more to the sacrifice/recursion/ETB cycle of effects.

Addition: Council's Judgment
Due to K'rrik underperforming and the removal theme of the deck I've decided to cut him and replace him with Council's Judgment.

Still not the best build
modified, 4 years ago
Thinking of splashing poision to deal with some of the things the deck currently dosent do good.Adding your KRILLiant suggestions!
BrassLord, 4 years ago
Thank you for the input! I'm eager to try out some of the new cards! I'm not sure how to best do a changelog, but here's my first try
Out: 2x Island ---> In: Homeward Path ,
War Room : Get our SHELLmets on, we're going to war! Adding some utility lands. War Room
card draw in the late game for minimal cost. Homeward Path, call me SHELLfish, but I don't like sharing my commander, as much as I enjoy the thought of giving our opponents crabs ; ).
Out: Fumble ---> In: Mirrormade : Fumble seems EXCELLENT in theory. In reality, it was was very underwhelming. The Voltron commanders I encountered usually had built in hexproof or gained protection from blue. Mirrormade on the other hand seems like an extremely versatile card! It has fun interactions with our own enchantments that steal or shut down creatures, can double down on the best artifacts on the board, and can even reactivate Vessel of Endless Rest in a pinch (pun intended) to go for Tunnel Vision.
Out: Into the Roil ---> In: Mystical Tutor , As pointed out, this card can search for our bombs and wincons, anything from Polymorph, Tunnel Vision, even Twisted Image!
The two cards I cut were both forms of interaction in the form of bouncing in favor of more consistent cards. Will have to playtest to see if the deck needs more interaction (I'm looking at you, Capsize).
Will keep updating the deck as I playtest it, and keep improving it with your suggestions! I've also been considering making a Penny Pincher XD version of this deck as well, so stay tuned!

KHM Updates
sevro_b, 4 years ago
Kaldheim brings us two cards that really fit the theme here: Svella, Ice Shaper makes rocks to fuel our strategy and gives us a late-game mana sink for value. It is also probably my favorite card from playing limited in the set, so there's a sentimental attachment there. Similarly, Replicating Ring can super-charge our artifact production. Excited to try both of these out.
Also, though I will still run the triple partners when the table abides, I'm going ahead and changing the list to show Korvold as the commander, since that is how I end up playing it the most.

Rats of Assured Mutual Destruction
Jeedras, 4 years ago
Bone Pickers fit the vulture theme but in the end they are just another beater, usually not as good as Scavenger or Angler or Vulture. Meanwhile if popular Mono Black Devotion often has 1-2 crypt rats main deck and me with fatter creatures and graveyard recursion... They are not excellent against every deck out there but they are awesome more times than they are just ok I believe. Just good utility creature all around.Update 3: Minor Tweaks
Romer, 4 years ago
Adding a couple tutors and removing some sources of recursion to make room. I think proactively tutoring the right Elf into play/my hand is the more valuable play than returning something from the yard. I also still have three other sources of recursion.
Added
- Elves of Deep Shadow - replacing one of my green mana dorks for the variety in colour generation.
- Chord of Calling - instant-speed creature tutor that can benefit from my Elf tokens.
- Shared Summons - another instant-speed creature tutor.
- Rogue's Passage - to make Lathril unblockable.
Removed
- Llanowar Elves - I have a lot of -generating mana dorks already. Replacing with Elves of Deep Shadow who can generate .
- Elderfang Ritualist - only triggers when it dies, which can sometimes be difficult to trigger. I still have Golgari Findbroker in the deck, which can return a permanent to hand when it ETBs (and maybe I can even repeat that with Wirewood Symbiote).
- Return Upon the Tide - expensive at 5 mana. Of course, for that cost it returns the creature directly to play and adds 2 more elf tokens but... is it really needed, or just kinda cool? I think an instant "tutor 2 creatures to hand" is a better use of 5 mana.
- Swamp
