Nahiri's Lithoforming

Sorcery

Sacrifice X lands. For each land sacrificed this way, draw a card. You may play X additional lands this turn. Lands you control enter the battlefield tapped this turn.

Having read through most of the deck descriptions I think this deck is op super competitive and I could run it with the notes here and a lottle practice. But what I commented to ask was what deck does this deck normally have trouble with and thoughts on Nahiri's Lithoforming for additional land drop and card draws

04/03/2024 (3.0) skipped a bunch of versions because this was a bigger update.

Haven't spent much time on this one, while building a couple other decks. Now returning to with fresh eyes, refining the focus, checking to see if any of these cards work better in the newer lists (lots going to Rakdos), and I actually purchased a few inexpensive additions.

The biggest upgrades are: A bunch of awesome lands in hand card advantage that can be: reload lightning bolt lands or landfall drops depending on which commander I am playing.

Bag of Holding, Creeping Renaissance, Praetor's Counsel, Barrel Down Sokenzan, Nahiri's Lithoformingfoil

Jolrael, Empress of Beasts to turn my opponents precious lands into lightning bolt targets for a little bit of control.

Upgraded Voyaging Satyr to Krosan Restorer though i am less convinced of thier overall value here at this time.

I put my Grafted Exoskeleton back in. I thought making Borborygmos a tripple barreled poison counter machine gun mighy be a bit much. But then I played a couple friends whose decks were far meaner than I expected. So here we are.

Removed: Traveler's Amulet (HOU) Feed the Clan (KTK) Vessel of Volatility (SOI) Voyaging Satyr (THS) Tunneling Geopede (BFZ) Pilgrim's Eye (BFZ) Burnished Hart (THS) Everflowing Chalice (WWK) Flamekin Herald (CMR)

A correction to your question: you don't put two lands into play as part of Nahiri's Lithoforming's resolution, rather you have 7 more land drops available this turn. Since playing a land is done at sorcery speed, you'll need to wait for the original Lithoforming to resolve before you get to play any of those lands. So you'll only have 2 lands to sacrifice and draw 2 cards. You'll be able to play 14 additional lands this turn, though as you originally only had 9 lands in play, you may want to choose x=5 as you'll sacrifice the same 9 lands either way, and likely won't be using all of the land drops.

I have nine lands on the battlefield and Krark, the Thumbless. I cast Nahiri's Lithoforming for X=7. Krark‘s trigger comes out heads and NL gets copied. For that copy, I sacrifice seven lands and draw seven cards, and I put two lands into play. I now have four lands and the original NL on the stack.

Does it whiff because I cannot sacrifice seven lands?

Pre-completion Nahiri, the Lithomancer is described as having special power over stone and metal, often using that to create stone and metal blades.

Koth of the Hammer is a geomancer, manipulating stone and heat as it relates to lava. Thanks to being born on Mirrodin, he's able to use this to purify and heat metal.

It seems like the difference between their respective abilities is mostly semantic. Both of them are shown using rocks, metal, and heat as weapons and armor. About the only differences I see are that Nahiri has manipulated worked stone, while Koth has only used raw stone, and that Koth goes bigger scale with landslides and eruptions while Nahiri mostly focuses on smaller-scale shaping and crafting. This appears to be mostly preference, though, with Nahiri's Lithoforming, Nahiri, Storm of Stone, Smelt, and Darksteel Plate.

All three of those look great! I've been trying to build an Archelos deck for the longest time now. I want to make mine more themed around the concept of time, though. Aeon Engine, Time Stop, Discontinuity etc. I still have no idea what the endgame is while trying to actively avoid some sort of infinite turn nonsense.

Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma is one of my favorite cards from M19 and it reminds me a lot of when I started playing in early 2019 (M19 and Amonkhet were sets I bought a lot into when I started). Hopefully this thread can help it get to 100 upvotes!

Moraug, Fury of Akoum is another great one. I debated building him when ZNR released but opted for tossing him in one of the decks I already had. Still cool to see him on his own, though. Terrain Generator and Nahiri's Lithoforming work wonders in that deck, I'm sure!

Come to think of it, I think this thread could use a "You must leave a comment/+1/suggestion" clause much like the regular "Advertise your deck!" thread. Would help to spark more conversation around the ones posted rather than people just posting and leaving. (No offense to anyone that's already done that of course, just throwing the idea out there.)

These are four of the five decks in my mono-colored Legends of Dominaria cycle. The one (Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, of course!) is still set to private and has a primer that's a WIP at the moment. I can update it here once it's done. Would love any sort of feedback on them as they're some of my favorite decks both in gameplay and flavor. :)

I think it's potentially dangerous to give white/black access to additional land drops - even when it's symmetrical. That's been exclusively a green color palette mechanic - and then there's Storm Cauldron that has a hefty drawback. Red has "recently" gained access to terraforming with Nahiri's Lithoforming but that's trading X lands in play for X additional land drops - no land ramping.

Polaris on copying a spell with an …

You only have to sacrifice one creature. A copy is not cast (unless the effect specifically tells you to cast the copy), so none of the costs need to be paid. You'll just get a second 5 damage to any target without needing to pay mana or sacrifice another creature.

Note that this is not always the case; Goblin Grenade includes the sacrifice as an additional cost, but other cards might not. For example, you only need to sacrifice one land when casting and copying Harrow , but you would need to sacrifice X lands to both the original and the copy of Nahiri's Lithoforming because the sacrifice is part of the effect, not a cost.

Note also that some other quirks can also happen with copies of spells that care about how they were cast. For example, if you flash back Increasing Vengeance and copy it, the second one will not make two copies because it was not cast from the graveyard, even though it's a copy of a spell that was.
