Artifact (1)

Maybeboard

Norin is simply a complex champion. If anyone casts a spell or attacks, Norin exiles himself until the beginning of the end of turn. This one ability gives us a huge amount benefits from ETBs and our opponents a lot of grief.

In order to play this deck properly you have to be shrewd. Understand that your opponents will always look at Norin and say in amazement, "Norin looks interesting. How does Norin work?" This amazement will last exactly three turns, after which they will then focus you down every single chance they get. With this style of deck, because we run so few creatures, we rely on our protection artifacts, politeness, and table politics to avoid taking damage. The second that Impact Tremors or Purphoros hits the board, each opponent will take the gloves off and start trying to punch your life total.

Goals:

  1. Lay down Impact Tremor effects to chunk your opponent's life totals.
  2. Our goal is to build up our artifact ramp, ETB enchantments, and defenses.
  3. Use board wipes for creatures and nonland permanents when necessary. Eldrazi board wipes are particularly cruel against colored decks, and because we are running mostly artifacts, we will be unaffected.
  4. Throw down protection from everything to deny would-be attacks from chunking you down.
  5. Use Insurrection effects to take all of your opponents creatures to beat them to death with it.

Strategic Chaos: Don't be chaotic foe chaos' sake, use this chaos to improve your board state.

  1. Confusion in the Ranks: This means every time Norin ETBS, Norin will exchange for the best creature on board. You can swap most of your artifacts without suffering for it. *Note, Confusion in the Ranks itself ETB's and it is an enchantment, so it will automatically swap itself when it drops. Don't allow your opponents to tell you otherwise, look it up in the rules and eratta.
  2. Planar Chaos: Play all your necessary spells first, then drop Planar Chaos. I almost always play Planar Chaos on turn 3 because it will inevitably disrupt any plans your opponents had to ramp forward and win. This card causes a ton of anger because people don't know how to play around it. Most people are too impatient, so they will try to cast their entire hand, losing half or more of their cards in the process. And by the time it's your turn again, Planar Chaos will likely sacrifice itself, leaving you unaffected. If Planar Chaos stays on board for multiple turns, more fun for everyone. This is one of the most potent cards in your library, at very least you can grin as they throw cards into their graveyard.
  3. Grip of Chaos: This is effectively hexproof for your shenanigans (until someone finds a boardwipe for enchantments or a multitarget spell). Play this at the correct time, and do understand if you have both Grip of Chaos and Confusion in the Ranks on the battlefield, the game state will become VERY CONFUSING VERY QUICKLY. Be careful with this card, otherwise you can unintentionally stall out the game.
  4. Wheel of Fortune: This and the other Wheels in this deck are hand-disruption. Drop all your ramp and artifacts on the table, and as soon as your hand gets low on cards, cast a Wheel. This will mess up whatever plan your opponents had. Usually to your benefit.

P.S. Why so many Howling Mine effects? I like making land drops. It also makes the Wheels better, disallowing your opponents from properly using the cards in their hands. Similarly, if they do actually empty their hands, throw down a board wipe, now the cards they played are useless.

Also, be considerate of others. If you play this deck improperly, your opponents will hate Norin. Be patient, but don't drag out the game.
