Kron - King of the Oathbreakers

Commander / EDH Phasing Spirits WB (Orzhov)

Maybeboard

Okay ladies, gentlemen, and enbys of all categorizations, I feel that I am finally able to present King of the Oathbreakers version 1.0.

The deck starts off a bit slow, using some low costed spirits to put a bit of pressure on the board and summoning our commander is kind of the half-way point.

It is our job to assemble some form of targeting spell loop by then using either Isochron Scepter or Spellbinder (the majority of our creatures having some form of evasion helps with the latter). The best spells for this are Heaven's Gate, Touch of Darkness, Cauldron Haze, or Reprieve to turn any of the aforementioned into cantrips (remember the spells only need to target, not resolve).

Often we can have our spirits doubling each turn by around turn 6 which will let us quickly overwhelm the board.

No plan survives contact with the enemy however so to help with grinding out the game a bit more we have several options for playing spells more conventionally. Bestow creatures help by being able to be cast targeting a creature only to then enter as a permanent when their target phases out, Killian, Ink Duelist helps bring down those ridiculous bestow costs to a more reasonable level. Mavinda, Students' Advocate can give us double casts on any of our targeting instants and sorceries. To keep ourselves safe I've eschewed normal Propaganda -esque effects in favor of creature based ones. Windborn Muse, Forbidding Spirit, and Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts. And let's not forget that even in lieu of a targeting loop, any of our targeting spells will asymmetrically wipe away our opponents' boards either by phasing out our creatures prior to a board wipe like Damn or Vanquish the Horde or by comboing with the best spirit in the deck Horobi, Death's Wail

I do still worry about the synergies. Once we get a loop going we're pretty weak to artifact removal. Some sort of Guardian Beast type effect is in order (note that the targeting spell Clever Concealment can phase out our artifacts once for effectively free if we convoke it with our spirits). Also more playtesting is in order but might want either some proper graveyard recursion if our opponents manage to get around our phasing protection with something like Storm of Souls (as an aside, might be a combo there if we dump our few non-spirits into the grave and then bring them back as spirits, again need more experimentation), alternatively might want to take advantage of the fact that we don't have anything like that with a Rest in Peace type effect.
