Commander: Animar, Soul of Elements

This is primarily a combo deck with several routes to win or achieve an insurmountable board position. The main way to gather the combo pieces falls upon the tutors, from which Green Sun's Zenith is discounted for being the most limited one and relegated to find acceleration pieces, and Imperial Recruiter and Fierce Empath, highlighted for being easily reusable due to their creature condition, thus enabling them to find multiple combo pieces. Either of them can find any creature except Bloodbraid Elf , who wouldn't be searched anyway, and Genesis , whose purpose is to be found by Survival of the Fittest.

The following outlines assume Animar, Soul of Elements is on the battlefield and with enough +1/+1 counters to reduce all costs as much as possible.

  • Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Pestermite or Deceiver Exarch is the fastest combo. All the pieces can be found by Recruiter, the mana requirements going up to , or just if Aluren is present. The simplest line of play would be Recruiter into Kiki-Jiki, who copies Recruiter and searches the remaining piece.

  • Palinchron is a combo in itself as long as there are at least 6 lands to untap and at least can be generated by them to bounce and recast Palinchron. Animar gets an arbitrary amount of counters, and a 7th land to untap generates infinite mana.

  • Deadeye Navigator produces infinite mana when coupled with Palinchron or Peregrine Drake, assuming at least can be produced by the lands getting untapped. This in turn allows Navigator to repeat any other trigger indefinitely. Triskelion provides a kill this way through direct damage. Fierce Empath can start the combo alone and get all the necessary pieces. Empath into Navigator, who retriggers Empath into Palinchron requires .

  • Cloudstone Curio doesn't provide a direct kill by itself, but allows Cloud of Faeries and any creature that costs or less to exploit the latter's triggers indefinitely. Peregrine Drake or Palinchron instead of the Faeries remove the restriction on the other creature's cost and generate infinite mana in the process. Triskelion kills through direct damage in all these cases. All the processes described here also give infinite counters to Animar.

  • Aluren doesn't have a default or autowin combo following it, but accelerates the others already present, especially when combined with Cloudstone Curio.

  • Creatures not yet mentioned either provide extra mana in some form, dig into the deck by drawing cards, reuse abilities by untapping, bouncing or copying, or act as removal. A special mention may go to the creatures with cascade, whose purpose is to start again if the board is emptied, and Trinket Mage , whose only targets are Skullclamp as a card-drawing engine, and Tree of Tales for the improbable but possible event of not having sources of green mana, since all the accelerators are green and thus green is the primary color to have access to.
