After seeing the mono color Commander decks get spoiled, I fell in love with Freyalise. I started playing MTG in 94, so I've always had a soft spot for the oldwalkers. Picked up the mono green deck on release day, and for a good 6 months a very lightly modified list was my go to deck for more casual games, especially against a group of younger players at my LGS that were just getting into both EDH and MTG in general, and had very limited card pools.

Eventually I moved, and my new local EDH scene was a lot more Spikey than the old one. A deck that was 90% precon was pointless to play, so it was time for an upgrade. After looking at the various legendary Elves, I decided that I wanted to branch off into another color, but couldn't find a general that I liked the vibe of. I was looking at 5 color legendaries for another project, saw Karona, and it just clicked. I had seen and played against several Karona decks before, but they had all been more control/voltron oriented, loading her up with the Vow cycle auras and going to town. I had never seen a tribal deck featuring her, and after giving it a go I have no idea why. It's amazing.

I still wanted something more on the casual side of things, and I find infinite combos anti climactic, so those were out too. I was always the control player (like Stasis lock/ draw the game via Divine Intervention control player), so I wanted to stay away from playing control at all.

This is one of those decks that made me wish EDH decks were 199 cards, since I could make a whole second deck out the "maybe" pile have set aside for this thing.
