Uril, The Miststalker

Commander / EDH* Voltron

Paulapolos

Cast Uril, The Mistalker on turn 3 or 4, suit up the auras and attack. Back up plan is to cast Tooth and Nail with entwine for Restoration Angel and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. Ramp package: the one mana ramp cards allow for a turn three Uril, the Miststalker in conjunction with a second ramp card without using vulnerable mana dorks like Birds of Paradise. The ramp creatures double as protection from sacrifice while also caring the recurable auras. Cultivate and kodoma's reach are mild card advantage. Aura package: the main categories of auras are recursion, haste granting, protection, crack-back protection, and evasion. Protection comes in the form of granting indestructible and totem armor. Crack-back protection is to keep you alive after you have attacked one player this is in the form of lifelink and vigilance. Evasion comes in the form of trample and flying.
Plan B & C Package: One alternate plan is to use Sigarda, Host of Herons as your Voltron as opposed to her normal role as protection against sacrifice effects. Alternatively, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Restoration Angel result in an attack against all players for a indefinite amount. Both creatures also provide a lot of value outside of their combo. Tooth and Nail provide an excellent way to establish the combo, but Chord of Calling can also provide the missing piece. Tutor Package: Auras: Heliod's Pilgrim doubles as a creature to protect your voltron. It and open the Armory can also grab Chained to the Rocks. Creatures: Provides mana ramp especially with Dyrad Arbor, card advantage with Argothian Enchantress, an aura tutor with Heliod's Pilgrim, parts of the Plan B, and recursion through Eternal Witness. Recursion: Eternal Witness is a generally useful card. Second Sunrise and Faith's Reward are protection from sweepers. Faith's Reward is a stand in for Teferi's Protection. Sweepers: Divine Reckoning and Winds of Rath sweep but leave your voltron behind. Descend upon the Sinful and Hallowed Burial answer graveyard shenanigans. Removal: The aura based removal is either efficient or flexible and triggers our enchantresses. Reclamation Sage can be tutored for and protects from sacrifice effects. The rest is either efficient or provides extra value. Vedalken Orrery gives you some protection against sorcery speed effects. Lands: Most lands come into play untapped. If not, they provide all three colors or can block or protect against sacrifice effects. Contested Cliffs is virtually free removal. slayers's stronghold provides haste, vigilance, and a power boost. Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion provides a major power boost. Kessig Wolf Run provides both evasions an a lot of extra power. The plan: This is a voltron deck. You build an unstoppable creature and crush your opponents. For this deck, we use Uril, the Miststalker because it protects itself and hits hard. Because of Uril's second ability we use auras to increase its power, protect it, and get it through. Because of the commander damage rule, any aura makes an uncontested Uril, the Miststalker a three turn clock. A second aura meas that the two auras only need to grant +2/+0 for Uril to hit for a 2 turn clock. Because it is so easy to get to 11 power, double strike is very powerful. Remember a player dies when they've taken 21 or more damage from a single commander.
