OK here are some cards to look at based on what you like:

Quag Vampires, Vampire of the Dire Moon, Kalastria Highborn, Yahenni, Undying Partisan, Bloodthirsty Aerialist

Not sure what your budget is, but Yawgmoth, Thran Physician always goes well in vampire decks since +1/+1 counters are always a thing. You can pair that with Spread the Sickness or Grim Affliction.

Additionally, Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood form a pretty nice combo in lifelink decks.

Also, Sol Ring is not legal in anything but commander. Dark Ritual is only legal in vintage, legacy, commander (not modern or standard). If this is just to play casually, that won't matter. I just tend to build format legal decks just incase lol.

I have some thoughts about the overall gameplay, but I'll make some easy suggestions first:

Painful Truths > Read the Bones in a 3-color deck. Similarly, Mathas, Fiend Seeker is a great way to turn all of your removal into 2-for-1s, or can even draw you cards without spending any cards because it incentivizes your other player to remove things for you.

I agree with King_marchesa about cutting some vanilla vampires for ramp and removal. I noticed you said one of your players really likes hexproof creatures; spells like Soul Shatter and Crackling Doom will probably be better than spot removal like Utter End in that case. Anowon, the Ruin Sage is good for that, too, and Patron of the Vein is removal on a big-ol' Vampire stick!

Nighthawk Scavenger and Nullpriest of Oblivion will be good includes that are aggressive but also good in the lategame (this will be a theme in this comment). Olivia Voldaren is cheap and a good mana-sink to use the extra ramp you're putting in.

Bloodline Keeper  Flip is a little on the expensive side at $9 but if you can get a copy, it'll be a great way to upgrade your army from 1/1s to evasive 2/2s, or 4/4s if he flips. Vampire Nocturnus is another good Lord in this vein. (Pun intended!) Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose can function as a damage-doubler using his activated ability.

Finally, Forerunner of the Legion is a great tutor that also gives +2/+2 to an attacker whenever you play a vampire, thanks to Eminence.

You'll notice that all of these suggestions will raise your curve. I think that's necessary to address the problems you're having. I started EDH running a Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury Elfball deck that had a similar goal: Make a lot of small Elves and run down one opponent. Ran into the same problems you have: You get outscaled. The changes I outlined above are also similar to what I did to turn Freyalise into a more streamlined Ezuri deck. You have to add a lategame. This is also why I recommend adding ramp to more reliably cast Edgar; he's an extremely powerful finisher with a board full of small vampires, and the deck relies on him for more than just 1/1s!

That's why most of my changes encourage you to add more removal and ways to buff your board with stronger creatures. This is the great thing about Edgar: you don't need to focus on making an army of small vampires, because he does that for you! Instead, you can play vampires that buff and help your other vampire tokens.

So, I'd recommend making swaps for the following low-drop creatures that aren't evasive/strong and don't do anything for your board besides being a vampire to trigger Edgar (which most of the above suggestions also do):

Bloodthrone Vampire
Guul Draz Assassin
Guul Draz Vampire
Pulse Tracker
Quag Vampires
Vampire of the Dire Moon
Duskborne Skymarcher
Ruthless Cullblade
Vampire Interloper

And also Goblin Bombardment, which I don't think is a good rate for what it does.

Add some more Vampire lords where you can get them (many of the above are just $1-2), removal, and ramp. You should find that instead of getting a hand with 2-3 lands and all 1-2 drops, you'll start finding a hand with something to do on every turn as you work up towards Edgar. I hope that helps!

The first thing that I am noticing is that there is not enough white mana. Also, I think you could benefit from less swamps and more mountains and plains. Additionally I would add Boros Signet, Talisman of Indulgence, Talisman of Conviction, and Fellwar Stone for more ramp. You also might benefit from adding God-Eternal Bontu for additional draw because you can sacrifice all your tokens and then draw more vampires to make more tokens. I would also add more removal, Mortify, Utter End, and Anguished Unmaking would serve you well here. As for cuts, I would take out some crappy 1-2 mana vampires like Vampire Interloper, Ruthless Cullblade, and Quag Vampires.

I will build your build and see how it suits me, I wanted to build a casual but optimized creature based build and I think this list is pretty much ok, I have made some small changes: I replaced : gone : Guul Draz Vampire Quag Vampires Martyr of Dusk Bloodhusk Ritualist Pulse Tracker Kheru Bloodsucker added : Metallic Mimic Skullclamp Adaptive Automaton Rakish Heir Tithe Drinker Etchings of the Chosen

and changes in the manabase :

Dragonskull Summitit by Luxury Suite as this one will never enter tapped Nomad Outpost by Scrubland As I dislike enter tapped lands in an agressive build and I think your red sources are a bit high. Orzhov Basilica by Godless Shrine again because I dislike enter tapped lands Mountain by Badlands These last 3 changes also change the amount of swamp/plains cards in your deck from 12 to 15 making your isolated chapel less likely to enter tapped. I have also descided to play snowcovered basics because that gives more options that your opponents can assume you have.

so this leaves the following enter tapped lands in your deck: Path of Ancestry this one I completely understand and agree Mortuary Mire I wonder if this one is good enough, can you elaborate on why this is good enough in this deck Windbrisk Heights again the same question, is this card good enough?

Now finaly some lands that might be worth looking into: bojuka bog. I know, it enters tapped, but will probably be a good replacement for mortuary mire blood crypt plateau prismatic vista if you think this deck can handle with 1 less land that effectivly gives mana

This would be an example of one of the best midrange decks in Modern right now, Jund: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-jund-46470#paper

A midrange deck wants to have the strongest cards at each point on the mana curve, and wins by having cards that are just better than your opponents. In the case of Jund, your mono red opponent's Monastery Swiftspear gets embarrassed by Tarmagoyf, and Wrenn and Six is a whole lot better than something like Snapcaster Mage from azorious control.

Now, as for changes, I will tell you what I would do, but you can take only some of the suggestions and make the deck your own.

First, remove anything that costs 5 or more mana except possibly Gray Merchant of Asphodel, along with all of your ramp or land search cards like Armillary Sphere and Cabal Stronghold. You want to put on pressure early and destroy your opponent's creatures, and you can't do that if you are spending mana trying to ramp or have big creatures stuck in your hand.

Second, remove all of the artifacts you have left, with the possible exception of Panharmonicon. Panharmonicon is really fun and I would up it to 3 copies if you really want to go all out on the ETB abilities, but just know that it won't be the most competitive. The rest of your artifacts are really only good when you're already winning, and the majority of the time they would be better as another creature or a piece of disruption.

Third, remove some of your weaker creatures. Fourth Bridge Prowler is decent if your local scene has a lot of decks like spirits and bant snowblade where decks have a lot of creatures with one toughness, but it's a lot weaker if your opponent's are playing big creatures or no creatures at all. Burglar Rat and Yarok's Fenlurker are often weaker than Brain Maggot or Kitesail Freebooter since opponent's can choose the weakest card in their hand to give up with your current line up, but with a switch you get to choose what to get rid of (Yes, they get their card back if your creature dies, but they generally have to use a removal spell on a 1/2 creature and don't get to play their card as early as possible, so you end up ahead). If you decide to play a lot of those, Wasteland Strangler can be a cheaper Skinrender and prevent your opponent from getting those cards back when your disruption dies. Quag Vampires is never an impressive card, and Cauldron Haze is really awkward to play because you really want to be using all of your mana each turn to deploy threats, and you very rarely will have 2 mana open, haze in hand, and not want it to be removal or disruption.

Fourth, add more disruption and removal. Cards like Inquisition of Kozilek and Victim of the night will help supplement your creatures ETBs by either being cheaper or at instant speed. Disruption is essential against control and combo decks so that you can get rid of sweepers like Supreme Verdict, win conditions like Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, or their combo spell like ad nauseum. Removal is required to deal with creatures from aggro and midrange, along with big beaters like Primeval Titan in big mana decks (Tron, Amulet Titan, etc.)

Finally, play multiples of the stronger cards, go up to at least 23 lands, and fill out the rest of the deck with meta game cards. Wrench Mind and Despoiler of Souls can be solid against control, Gifted Aetherborn and Nyxathid are good against aggro, and things like Sign in Blood and Pack Rat give the edge in midrange matches. Pick whichever ones best address your local meta/ you like the best, and then you'll use your sideboard to cover other matches.

You'll also want a sideboard if you're actually playing at a local tournament, but start with the main deck first to figure out what you actually need to sideboard for.

A couple of additional resources: For figuring out how many lands: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/brewer-s-minute-how-many-lands. For a more in depth explanation of Mid range decks: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/how-build/how-build-midrange-2017-02-07

Finally, if you're looking for ideas, just google " modern mono-black midrange budget" and you'll find a decent number of options.

I hope this helps.

I'd rather swap it in for Throne of the God-Pharaoh since it's too much of a "win more" card, while vampire might be used to rebuild boardstate.

And as I said already Quag Vampires might be unblockable so for 2/2 unblockable vampire with 1/1 friend doesn't look that weak - even better than Vampire Nighthawk especially when it comes to CMC for Ad Nauseam or Bolas's Citadel .

Also what's your experience with Impact Tremors ?

My not a fan of Vindictive Vampire , because you play the card on turn 4 and it do nothing. The planeswalker give you vampires +1/0 and lifelink until your next turn and you have normaly Dome vampires to protect it.

Quag Vampires is a sleeper in your hand and in the late Game you need something more impactfull. 3mana for a 2/2 is to slow

Springleaf Drum seems strong i will try it

Mabye Bloodthrone Vampire for Goblin Bombardment ?

Falkenrath Noble is actually worse because it hits only one player per trigger and relies too much on your opponents to play many creatures. Stat-wise it might be better because of added evasion in form of flying but I'd actually stick to the ground with Vindictive Vampire dealing 3-4 damage and healing me for 1.

Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet is good but not here - it's place is in some more midrange decks rather than full on aggro. On the other hand Vampire Nocturnus has POTENTIAL to be amazing but... in 3-color deck it has too much % chance to whiff. I've actually counted and there are 41 black cards and it might not be enough to make it worth inclusion.

If I'd make it more similar to my Aggro/Aristocrats deck I'd swap:

  • Sorin, Solemn Visitor --> Vindictive Vampire - I see planeswalkers as sorcery spells because there's a very high chance that they'll be killed during the whole turn cycle. So this Sorin is for +1/+0 and lifelink OR 2/2 token... Is it worth 4 CMC? Unfortunately, I don't think so.
  • Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet --> Quag Vampires - low CMC aggro vampire that has potential to be unblockable with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and come with a few +1/+1 counters later in the game.
  • Adanto Vanguard --> Bloodthrone Vampire - white vampire for black one and I personally don't see this Vanguard as powerful, while with all those ping abilites on board we can easily machine gun opponents to death (or close enough to be taken down by buffed up vampire lady).
Also some ideas to consider: Springleaf Drum might be considered a ramp spell - tap token and this for a Birds of Paradise effect in non-green deck. For a more combo-oriented build or just pure value I'd maybe add Phyrexian Altar ? Besides combo with Oathsworn Vampire I've already told you about it can just enable Aristocrats effects or act as a ramp card, maybe for instant speed interaction?

Other than that I'm recently questioning the value of Stromkirk Noble since it's not card... What do you think about it?
