Obeka Ends the Turn

Want a deck that can go toe to toe with any cEDH deck and scale to your buddy's new precon without changing a single card in the deck? Do you like subverting rules text? Then Obeka, Brute Chronologist is your girl. With an unassuming but extremely powerful ability, Obeka will fly under the radar until it is time to strike. The myriad of permanent card stealing, card copying, and infinite combos that Obeka's ability allows for creates a never ending flow of options that can combo off turn 4 or, if you choose, simply keep pace with and play your opponents deck; this deck can scale seamlessly with the power level of your play group.

This deck is intended to be a healthy combination of stealing, cloning, reanimating, and infinite combos which all synergize together. That synergy allows you to have more lines off attack and operate with greater efficiency than any one strategy alone. The most common flavor I have seen for this and other similar effects is reanimator, but those are extremely weak to any graveyard hate; you will find yourself completely shut down and durdling against a Rest in Peace or the like. This deck remedies that weakness.

This deck takes advantage of cards with "at the beginning of the next end step" abilities through Obeka, Brute Chronologist's and Sundial of the Infinite's ability which lets you end your turn at any time. The way this works is that when you enter your end step, all "at the beginning of the next end step" effects will go on the stack. Don't want those abilities to resolve? Use Obeka's ability to end the turn with those on the stack, and they will not trigger nor will they trigger again at any other end step.

For example, cast Final Fortune and take the extra turn. At the beginning of the end step of that extra turn, the lose the game effect will go on the stack. With that effect on the stack, end the turn. Congratulations, you just got a free extra turn and did not lost the game! This works with any card that has an "at the beginning of the next end step" ability. Use and abuse this interaction until victory is yours!

This deck can be played at any power level to match your play groups'. The main strategies you can choose from to accomplish this are:

  • cEDH: Assemble one of your many infinite combos while keeping your opponents at bay with their own permanents through stealing or cloning them
  • cEDH: Use Obeka's ability to gain insurmountable advantage and board presence through the "beginning of the next end step" cloning/reanimating/stealing effects
  • cEDH: If you want to be really cheeky, steal/clone an opponent's win con/combo
  • Social: Play a clone/steal deck that uses your opponents' decks against them (only better!)
  • Social: Focus on the politics Obeka, Brute Chronologist's ability allows for by offering opponents protection from unwanted spells/abilities on their turn through using Obeka on your opponent's turn

    • Take your pick and scale with the power level of your playgroup!

  • Isochron Scepter imprinting Final Fortune + Obeka, Brute Chronologist/Sundial of the Infinite = Infinite turns
  • Intruder Alarm + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + any other creature = Infinite creature tokens
  • Intruder Alarm + Splinter Twin + any creature = Infinite creatures with haste
  • Palinchron + Sneak Attack = Infinite mana
  • Palinchron + any EtB cloning effect = Infinite mana
  • Palinchron + Cabal Coffers + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth = Infinite mana
