Sliver Overlord EDH

Commander / EDH

Aiyoki

This is my Sliver Overlord EDH deck as of 8/29/2023.

This is a complicated combo deck with a large variety of strategic, combo, and infinite combo options which can be taken in order to achieve victory.

Improvements or other Feedback about this deck that can help me improve success in competitive play is welcomed and appreciated!

Options for cheating out Sliver Overlord onto the battlefield ASAP would be best. Some commander decks I usually have to play against are:

Codie, Vociferous Codex

Urza, Lord High Artificer

Creature Removal: Global & Targeted Options

  1. Damnation Destroys all creatures for only four mana and prevents them from regenerating!
  2. Supreme Verdict This one also destroys all creatures for only four mana! While it doesn't prevent regeneration, countermeasures measures like Counterspell won't work!
  3. Harsh Mercy Is a cheap global removal option that can keep all of our slivers safe while simultaneously wiping out most of our opponent's non-tribal creatures!
  4. Terminate A cheap targeted removal that prevents regeneration
  5. Swords to Plowshares A great targeted removal, perfect for eliminating an otherwise pesky creature that would keep coming back if just destroyed.
  6. Essence Scatter Targeted creature removal, before it even gets the chance to hit the battlefield >:D

Graveyard Hate:

  1. Leyline of the Void. This enchantment exiles anything our opponents put into their graveyards and can even come up as a pregame play in your opening hand, making it an extremely efficient play against graveyard based commanders!

Mana Fixing:

  1. As long as you've got the green mana to spend Manaweft Sliver and Gemhide Sliver work wonderfully. If you've already got one of these babies on the board it's best to keep the other in reserve in case of a board wipe or targeted removal.

  2. The World Tree, and Chromatic Lantern both provide non-sliver options to fix mana colors.

Mana cost reduction:

  1. Herald's Horn costs only to play and also reduces the generic mana costs of all our slivers by . Save for the Legendary five slivers we're using here, basically every other sliver will cost 1 less to play with this thing on the battlefield!
  2. Morophon, the Boundless With slivers as the named creature type, when this thing hits the battlefield it reduces the cost to play any sliver by ! It might be the most costly to get out but it's indispensable for certain combos this deck is capable of pulling off.

Artifact & Enchantment Destruction

  1. Aura Shards + any creature spell

Cheekily Cheat Morophon and Commander into play for

  1. With Descendants' Path and at least one sliver on the battlefield use Vampiric Tutor to top-deck Morophon, the Boundless immediately before your turn starts. Path triggers on upkeep, putting morophon into play and completely bypassing its casting cost. From here Sliver Overlord can now be cast from the command zone for free.

Freely Cascading Slivers

  1. Morophon, the Boundless + The First Sliver + Hibernation Sliver Bounce first sliver and recast for free with morophon to flood the board with an army of slivers. This combo can quickly get out of hand, especially if you land an early Lavabelly Sliver!

Lethal Blocks

  1. Spiteful Sliver + Lazotep Sliver: If your opponents block the attacking slivers they automatically take 2 damage from each blocked sliver + they take damage based on the power of their blockers! I don't currently have it in the deck but adding Hunter Sliver to this combo would make it a surefire way to kill the defending player and/or another opponent who's low on life thanks to spiteful sliver allowing the damage to target any player!

Ping Damage

  1. Lavabelly Sliver + Any sliver spell

Play Slivers on your Opponent's Turns

  1. Sliver Overlord + Quick Sliver + Seedborn Muse: Tutor your slivers and play them during your opponent's turns thanks to quick sliver giving our creature spells flash and seedborn muse untapping all of our permanents during each opponent's turn! It is possible for this combo to become a win-con during your opponent's turn by constantly stealing away priority!

Zero Cost Slivers

  1. Morophon, the Boundless + Fist of Suns

Ps. There are quite a lot of different combos this deck can pull off... not all of them are listed here but I'll try to add them as I remember which ones I've missed... ^^;

Infinite Damage & Life Gain

  1. Sliver Queen + Basal Sliver + Lavabelly Sliver

Infinite Mana

  1. Mana = Sliver Queen + Basal Sliver + Training Grounds

  2. Mana = Sliver Queen + Basal Sliver + Mana Echoes

  3. Mana = Sliver Queen + Basal Sliver + Manaweft Sliver//Gemhide Sliver + Heart Sliver//Cloudshredder Sliver

Infinite Permanent Destruction

  1. Necrotic Sliver + Sliver Queen + Mana Echoes +/- Training Grounds (Training grounds is only necessary to complete this combo if you have fewer than 5 slivers on the battlefield)

Infinite Sliver Tokens

  1. Sliver Queen + Basal Sliver + Training Grounds//Mana Echoes

Infinite Sliver Tokens + Same turn combat win

  1. Sliver Queen + Basal Sliver + Training Grounds//Mana Echoes + Heart Sliver//Cloudshredder Sliver

  2. Sliver Queen + Basal Sliver + Training Grounds//Mana Echoes + Heart Sliver//Cloudshredder Sliver + Leeching Sliver: Leeching sliver bypasses damage prevention effects such as Fog

Board Wipe, But we're okay!

  1. Sliver Hivelord + Damnation//Supreme Verdict = Cheap board wipes that allow us to prevent destruction on our end because our slivers have indestructible.

How best to play the board wipes

  1. Because this deck plays almost no cards costing above 5 mana, Damnation and Supreme Verdict become ideal targets for mopping up our opponent's creatures once we've got Sliver Hivelord in play because once we cast The First Sliver it comes around and cascades for 4 allowing us to cast a 4 cmc or less card from the top of our deck. Hit either of these boardwipes or Harsh Mercy and watch it cast for free because of cascade's effect. I chose these global destruction spells for this reason because while something like Plague Wind is nice and wouldn't hurt our creatures, it's too expensive and would never trigger off the cascade since there aren't any sliver spells I'm aware of that cost more than 9.

Priority Heavy Combos

  1. The win-con combos in this deck enable us with the capacity to permanently steal priority away from our opponents. The biggest enablers are Sliver Overlord and Quick Sliver as they can work in tandem, sliver overlord tutors up the appropriate slivers we need to build winning comboes while quick sliver allows us to play those same slivers as though they had flash! If an opponent is foolish enough to try and utilize Intruder Alarm we can combo off it to create an infinite chain, especially if we've got Mana Echoes and Manaweft Sliver or Gemhide Sliver on the battlefield! When properly set up, even a Counterspell can't stop the priority chain we've got going, especially if we've called up and allowed a Root Sliver cast to resolve!
