Diabolic Intent

Sorcery

As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a creature.

Search your library for a card, put that card into your hand, then shuffle.

indieinside on Phage the Uncastable

I have Phage the Untouchable as one of my win conditions in my favorite build (shadow deck). She is so cool. I would recommend Hatred or Vorpal Sword, but you don’t really have any creatures. He costs a bit much to cast, but doubling your mana is nice with Nirkana Revenant. I’m surprised you aren’t playing Damnation. What about Sanctum of Eternity? It might help, might not.

Here are a few tutors that aren’t too costly. Seems like this deck should use some so that it is a little more consistent.

Demonic Consultation – a little risky, but it works.

Diabolic Tutor

Another way to make the deck more efficient while keeping its demonic core intact – and without relying too heavily on mana ramp – could be tutoring big demons from the library and cheating them directly onto the battlefield via alternative costs. That way, I can even skip their sacrifice effects if I want to.

It’s admittedly a bit schizophrenic considering I recently cut some of the more mana-heavy demons, but there are still plenty of major bosses in the list worth fetching and cheating out.

Cards like Diabolic Intent, Dark Petition, Beseech the Queen, or even bringing back Rune-Scarred Demon could help me tutor what I need.

And cards like Quicksilver Amulet, Thran Temporal Gateway, or Sneak Attack would let me deploy them for cheap, leaving room to cast two threats in one turn or keep mana open for interaction – like removal spells.

The possibilities are wide open.

DemonDragonJ: Yeah, my loathing of five-color goodstuff mostly comes from how this is supposed to be the color-restricted format: I have a Ghave, Guru of Spores deck, but if I want to make a Rith, the Awakener or Marath, Will of the Wild *f-etch* deck, I have to lose the black cards (and probably the entire Aristocrats theme). So, no more Grave Pact or Dictate of Erebos. No more Pitiless Plunderer. No more Diabolic Intent. No more Blood Artist or Bastion of Remembrance. I do gain red, though, so say hello to Purphoros, God of the Forge. Rhys the Redeemed or Nemata, Primeval Warden would be even more restricted, as token decks go.

My removal also suffers, since red removal is surprisingly bad in this format. (Seriously, I'd argue white has the best removal, followed closely by black. Green's a distant third, and red and blue are tied for fourth: Red has more removal, blue has better removal.)

And it happens between Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, Betor, Ancestor's Voice, Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, Beledros Witherbloom, and Licia, Sanguine Tribunefoil too. All are lifegain, but only Oloro can use Absorb and Drogskol Reaver. Only Licia can use Lightning Helix and Searing Meditation. Only Betor can use Beledros Witherbloom. Ayli and Witherbloom are even more restricted, especially since Witherbloom can't use the color that's best at lifegain.

But that's the whole point. When I choose a Commander, I make a lot of choices regarding deck construction. I can't say "Cathars' Crusade would be good in my Animar, Soul of Elements deck." because, well, it wouldn't; it would be illegal. That forces me to pick, I don't know, Ivy Lane Denizen or Forgotten Ancient instead. Corpsejack Menace? You mean Branching Evolution? (Aside from the name, why is Corpsejack Menace anyway? I actually wouldn't mind if it were just because that's Simic's thing.) And so on down the line.

Five-color goodstuff opts to ignore all of this. And right now, there are more five-color decks in EDH than in Legacy.

Eh, I can always just hate them out with Primal Order.

That's my rant about how too much five-color goodstuff is bad for the game.

Anyway, I play Aura Shards and Seedborn Muse in a lot of decks too. Aura Shards is really oppressive in a token build, or even a reanimator build. Seedborn Muse is interesting because she's either overpowered (anything , token builds, Yeva, Nature's Herald) or just a fancy Village Bell-Ringer without the Splinter Twin combo. I have to go through my decks now and see which ones have four or more game changers.

Thx for the suggestions Andramalech! Im really happy to get some feedback on this deck. In an earlier Version i had 2-3 cheap counters in the deck An Offer You Can't Refuse, Swan Song and a Negate but I took them out, because they became a salt factor in my playgroup. Whatever. Victimize is a great card, but after playing it for a while, I often felt like them coming tapped and leaving me with less blockers for a turn is kind of a big downside. I had some situations, where I just couldnt afford to cast it. As for the Diabolic Intent its the same with the counters. Salty players... But I just couldnt get myself to cut the Demonic Tutor. Plumb the Forbidden however might be worth a shot.

Sidisi, Brood Tyrant is so slept on in EDH these days, at least in my circles. It's a great pick, and with a new Tarkir set on the horizon in 2025, I think we should see a reprint. But I digress, this deck is great and I love that it seems like you've got something to cast pretty much every turn. There's a really healthy balance of land and creatures, but potentially consider Plumb the Forbidden or something like Diabolic Intent, potentially Victimize. I really like what I see here but you're lacking a considerable amount of instants, things like Swan Song, Strix Serenade, etc. Just some interaction and draw power would be my only suggestions.

multimedia on Should Muldrotha Eldrazi be Sac …

Self-mill and reanimation are directions to consider expanding. However, before you think about them consider first focusing on more ramp (0-3 CMC)?

Muldrotha is 6 mana and you have very few lower mana cost ramp spells. Scions aren't really reliable ramp since they only give you a burst of colorless mana after being saced. Consider more ramp that you can use more than one turn? More ramp like this can help gameplay, make it easier to cast your higher mana cost spells especially Muldrotha and give you more mana to cast different spells from your graveyard when you control Muldrotha. Consider at least 12 ramp sources?

Carpet of Flowers is powerful mana generation in multiplayer Commander.

Another direction to consider is to play more effects that let you play more than one land a turn. This makes Life from the Loam more powerful since you're filling your hand with lands.

Eternal Witness is really good with Muldrotha and self-mill since it gives you access to any card in your graveyard, a nonpermanent spell such as Diabolic Intent that you can't cast with Muldrotha.

Nice this looks super solid good work! I see you've got Demonic Tutor, my only suggestion would be an enchant tutor or two to help ensure you snag those powerful cards. Idyllic Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, maybe Plea for Guidance. Alternatively maybe Diabolic Intent or Diabolic Tutor or Beseech the Queen.

knucklekustard I'm going with Diabolic Intent. Rhystic Study isn't Modern-legal, and this deck can manage a spare creature to sacrifice to save two mana.
