Oloro the Power Bottom

Commander / EDH*

Fuulish

In this deck, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, is one huge, greedy, power bottom who loves taking large damage for a long time, luring his tops ... opponents ... into a false sense of victory before it's too late for them to see this power bottom's already won.

The key to this deck is riding through a little pain (and some big ones) to become stronger by growing your source of power and, like all great power bottoms, harnessing each pound after pound of damage thrusted your way to crush your opponents and overwhelm them with your enormous ... power.

The Three Tenets for Great & Greedy Power Bottoms:

  • Be receptive - be a good passive and try to take whatever is thrown your way.

  • No quickies - slow down those aggro decks. It takes time for Oloro to relax and enjoy what he does best ... winning!

  • Make it pleasurable - for all your opponents so that they come back for more.

Get those rocks out fast. Get as much land and mana rocks in your first hand and play them. Then you have different avenues for early plays:

Soothsaying

Rhystic Study

Aura of Silence

Grand Arbiter Augustin IV

Oloro, Ageless Ascetic

These cards honor the first & second tenet, slowing those aggressive opponents yet still receptive to early damage.

Next, trying bringing out:

Unwinding Clock

Vedalken Orrery

At this point, those big guns will start to come out and they'll want to lay in on you, hard and heavy ... but remember tenet three, you want to enjoy this soiree as well. So when they cast spells directed at you just Redirect to a more pleasurable target. Don't forget your removal, wipes, Pendrell Mists or Vile Consumption because your not just a greedy bottom but a filthy, dirty bottom that lacks Purity.

Speaking of Purity, checkout the synergy in this deck that can lead to victory:

Soothsaying - not alot of tutors but I rely on scrying for Baneful Omen, Enigma Sphinx & Temporal Mastery.

Purity - I have alot of pain lands and artifacts (Oloro likes to pleasure himself). I can turn that damage into life and card draw via Oloro, Ageless Ascetic. I can do this ability on my opponents turn, ramping up Archmage Ascension.

Temporal Extortion - let your opponents decide how they want to enjoy your company ... and then die. Whether Athreos, God of Passage or that Vile Consumption, they'll always come back for more.

Finishers - Debt to the Deathless or Death Grasp ... When you can't handle anymore.

N.B.: This deck does not play well with other bottoms and don't be afraid to tell them that. Other bottoms are Black decks, Blue decks, or White decks or any combination. This is especially true for Black and/or Blue decks. Save your Redirect and Sen Triplets for them. If all else fails, Magister Sphinx them. Lets hope they don't enjoy it.
