The 1v1 (a.k.a. "Duel" a.k.a. "French") spiritual successor to my EDH Azorious Control deck: Endless Red Tape.

For the uninitiated: Duel Commander (as the name implies) is 1v1, best 2 of 3, with a starting life total of 20. Standard EDH rules concerning color identity, deck size, sideboards, etc. apply. A separate banlist is in effect (hence no Mystical Tutor, Strip Mine, Sol Ring, etc.)

Deck is currently in "prototype" status and your input will certainly be taken into consideration.

Dragonlord Ojutai makes a fine commander for a 1v1 Duel Commander control deck. A control deck inherently wants a quick, difficult to remove clock once it takes control of the game, and Ojutai fits the bill coming out of the command zone.

The gameplan for this deck is relatively simple--put your opponent on their back foot via standard control elements, on their first few turns. Countermagic, spot removal, and board wipes are your bread and butter. Use cantrips and card draw to achieve a material resource advantage. True-Name Nemesis and Vendilion Clique constitute legitimate two-way threats in the mid-game.

When the coast is clear, drop Ojutai or one of your other, very efficient finishers such as Stoneforge Mystic + Batterskull or Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Your opponent should be too exhausted by this point to put up too much of a defense.
