A not-so-quick brew around Cormela, Glamour Thief, but with a $50 budget. Or, at least, all of the cards themselves need to be within a $50 budget, but who cares about the printing - I love foils and old border cards baby! I've always wanted to build a Grixis instant/sorcery-based storm deck, however I never really liked any of the commander options until Cormela, Glamour Thief. I tried a non-budget brew around her whenever she was released, but never really got anywhere with it due to a lot of the cards costing a fair amount of money. I approach my groups budget challenges as being able to build a deck I've always wanted to build, and not having to worry about perfectly optimizing everything due to budgetary constraints. So, I decided to build Cormela, Glamour Thief to satiate my desire to build an instant/sorcery-based storm deck.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them. However, it is a budget deck and right now I've pretty much maxed the $50 budget out. The final price of the deck as of 7/11/2024 is $49.98.

The general gameplan is to get your commander out as fast as possible and start digging for Saw in Half and a ritual effect. A bunch of cards in the deck support the gameplan and we can win once we assemble the Cormela, Glamour Thief + Saw in Half + Ritual combo. The deck primarily wins with cards like Impact Tremors, Goblin Bombardment, or Guttersnipe to deal damage to our opponents. We have a couple methods of successfully winning with these cards.

Strengths:

  • Due to over 1/4 of the deck having cards that say "draw a card" and our commander herself being a form a graveyard recursion, the deck is fairly consistent. The deck is often able to draw into one of our ritual effects fairly early on that we can abuse with Cormela, Glamour Thief, allowing us to cast more spells and draw more cards.

Weaknesses:

  • The biggest weakness of the deck is we're very focused around the graveyard and getting cards back from the graveyard after we've cast them. If someone removes our graveyard when it has our key cards in it, the deck is kind of screwed.
  • The deck is incredibly focused around the card Saw in Half. If Saw in Half gets removed and put into exile, the deck doesn't really have a good response and kind of flounders. Of course, the deck can still try to win via the token generators and cards like Impact Tremors or Goblin Bombardment, but our main gameplan revolves around the Saw in Half combo.

This is the second deck I've made for my group's budget shenanigans. The first deck was a very very bad tribal spirit Celestial Kirinfoil deck. That deck can be found here:
