I think Scion of the Ur-Dragon ‘s first name can be pronounced either way. Feel free to tell me otherwise.

It’s a theatrical dragon combo deck that can just about hold its own at a tier 1 table, but is currently configured for tier 2 (casual-combo)

I’ve been collecting this deck since I opened Dragonlord Ojutai in a Dragon’s of Tarkir booster back in 2015.

It used to run Dragon Tyrant and Atarka, World Render for commander-damage kills, both of which can be pumped by double-activating Scion, resolving first Moltensteel Dragon , then paying 12 life, then resolving the double strike dragon, for an instant kill with commander damage.

It still runs Hellkite Overlord for the same purpose: if you have 9 mana and 27+ life available in your turn, you can kill any player.

Dragon Toolbox

In some games, the only dragon actually cast is Scion. Both aspects of his ability - to morph into the others and to tutor them to your graveyard - are useful, and it is rare that he is left on the board unchallenged. Note that his ability can be activated multiple times on a single stack, but once he has resolved into another dragon he cannot morph again until the next turn.

Dragonlord Ojutai or Silumgar, the Drifting Death allow Scion to become hexproof, while Dragonlord Dromoka can protect a combo or kill.

The Ur-Dragon is a terrible card in your hand but great to reanimate. Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire chaos warps every opponent and can flip your own stuff onto the board if well lined-up. Scourge of Kher Ridges provides the wipes, and Runehorn Hellkite refills your hand at instant speed.

Infinite Mana

The main goal of the deck is to make infinite mana of all colours, put Scion on the board and activate him, becoming Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius and shooting everyone to death.

There is a high-stakes combo to do this: Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon or Necromancy . If interfered with, it can end up with all permanents exiled from the board, so usually needs protection of some sort.

Land Ramp

Aside from the combo, the deck doesn't do much unless there's 7+ mana available. The way to get there is through multiple land drops each turn plus Crucible of Worlds , Ramunap Excavator or Life from the Loam to keep replaying the fetches. Alternatively there's Strip Mine to peg back opponents.
