Mairsil Combo Deck, Aiming for CEDH viability. I'm new to cedh and so I'm not sure how much interaction I need to include.

Main combo is:

  1. Cast Mairsil, the Pretender, exiling Mirror-Mad Phantasm with a cage counter.
  2. Activate Mairsil, the Pretender's ability "Mairsil, the Pretender's owner shuffles it into their library. If that player does, they reveal cards from the top of that library until a card named Mirror-Mad Phantasm is revealed. The player puts that card onto the battlefield and all other cards revealed this way into their graveyard.", putting our deck into our graveyard.
  3. Narcomoeba plays itself.
  4. Unearth Fatestitcher, enabling Gravecrawler to be cast from our graveyard.
  5. Cast Gravecrawler (Persistent Specimen and Reassembling Skeleton provide redundancy in the event that Gravecrawler or Fatestitcher are missing).
  6. Sacrifice our 3 creatures to flashback Dread Return targeting Laboratory Maniac.
  7. Flashback Deep Analysis or draw a card from our empty library in any other way to win the game.

Backup combo is:

  1. Cast Mairsil, the Pretender, exiling an artifact that generates 3 mana (such as Gilded Lotus or Coveted Jewel) with a cage counter.
  2. Give Mairsil, the Pretender haste (Anger or Fervor) or psuedo-haste (Thousand-Year Elixir).
  3. Soulbond Mairsil, the Pretender and Deadeye Navigator.
  4. Tap Mairsil, the Pretender for 3 mana.
  5. Spend 2 mana to flicker Mairsil, the Pretender.
  6. Repeat step 4 and step 5, gaining 1 mana each cycle, until we have an arbitrarily large amount of mana.
  7. Spend an arbitrarily large amount of mana on one of Blood Hustler, Specter of the Fens, or Vampire Opportunist to win the game.

Backup (extremely complicated) infinite mana combo is:

  1. Use Mairsil, the Pretender to exile Quicksilver Elemental with a cage counter. This allows us to bypass Mairsil, the Pretender's "once each turn" clause by targeting Mairsil, the Pretender with his own copy of Quicksilver Elemental's ability, creating new copies of all of Mairsil, the Pretender's abilities (including the copied Quicksilver Elemental ability), each of which has not been used this turn. This cost 1 blue mana each time we want to activate one of Mairsil, the Pretender's abilities that we have already activated this turn.
  2. Use Mairsil, the Pretender to exile a permanent with an untap ability (Pili-Pala, Horseshoe Crab, Morphling, etc) with a cage counter.
  3. Use Mairsil, the Pretender to exile a permanent with a mana ability (Gilded Lotus, Mana Vault, etc.) that generates 2 more mana* than your chosen untap ability from step 2 costs to activate. For example, Horseshoe Crab costs 1 mana to activate, so to create a loop using Horseshoe Crab's untap ability, Mairsil, the Pretender would need a mana ability that generates 3 or more mana.
  4. Activate Mairsil, the Pretender's mana ability to generate X mana.
  5. Spend Y mana to activate Mairsil, the Pretender's untap ability, gaining at least 2 mana.
  6. Spend 1 mana to activate Mairsil, the Pretender's Quicksilver Elemental ability, targeting Mairsil, the Pretender. This gives Mairsil, the Pretender new copies of his mana ability, his untap ability, and his Quicksilver Elemental ability, all of which have not been used this turn and so may be activated.
  7. Repeat steps 4-6, gaining at least 1 mana each cycle, until we have an arbitrarily large amount of mana.
  8. Spend an arbitrarily large amount of mana on one of Blood Hustler, Specter of the Fens, or Vampire Opportunist to win the game.

*(Pili-Pala is the exception. Because it is both an untap and a mana ability, you can close the loop using Pili-Pala and a mana ability that generates 3 mana (only 1 more than Pili-Pala costs to activate.)

Backup infinite turns combo is:

  1. Use Mairsil, the Pretender to exile Anthroplasm and Sage of Hours with cage counters on them.
  2. Activate Mairsil, the Pretender's Anthroplasm ability for at least 5 mana to put at least 5 +1/+1 counters on Mairsil, the Pretender.
  3. Activate Mairsil, the Pretender's Sage of Hours ability to take extra turns.
  4. On each extra turn repeat steps 2 and 3 so our opponents do not get to take turns.
  5. Use our infinite turns to leisurely draw into a different combo that actually wins the game, unbothered by such petty things as our opponent's turns.

Other notes:

  1. Mairsil, the Pretender can target cards in our hand or graveyard, so cards like Gamble, Faithless Looting, and Fact or Fiction can be cast without their usual downside.
  2. Because we intend to win with an infinite combo or Laboratory Maniac, we can use our hp total as a resource for cards such as Ad Nauseam without worry. If we finish our combo before our opponents can act, then we win and can never be punished for having low hp, even if we go to 1 drawing cards. Conversely, just because it is our turn does not mean we are completely safe, lightning bolt is an instant after all.
