This deck started out as the 2019 precon deck "Merciless Rage."

When I bought this deck I thought I would be modifying it immediately, but I liked it as it was, especially with using Chainer, Nightmare Adept as the commander, and it went unchanged for about two years. It's only been fairly recently that it's been modified, and then even more with a lot of the cards released from Modern Horizon's 2.

15 June 2021 Deck Changes with release of Modern Horizon's 2 Show

pre-MH release: Some changes will be coming up for this deck soon though, MH2 has revealed a whole bunch of fun new toys for Chainer. I have also been meaning to put the card Mortal Combat into a deck and this seems like the best fit, still figuring out the newer direction I'd like to take it in though. I'm also waiting for the Innistrad sets to come out later this year before making any major changes for now since I expect those to also have some fun pieces as well.

...and the day of the box opening

Pretty much got all of my wishlist that I wanted for this deck from our box of Modern Horizons 2, everything except...an uncommon lol. Underworld Cookbook only presented itself with one copy.

My partner and I have very different deck building styles and to some extent, colour preferences, he likes red best, but prefers the likes of Boros, Gruul, Izzet, Naya, Jund, and Jeskai. I like black best along with Orzhov, Rakdos, Dimir, Mardu, Grixis, and Esper. The only commander we both have decks in common with is Chainer, Nightmare Adept, and go figure, we both had the same idea of adding Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar and her associated cards to our Chainer decks. Our box was nice enough to give us two of Asmor, one of which was foil; this one's mine as he does not like foils and I'm fine with either. Only one Cookbook though! I never get salty when specific rares or mythics don't show up in a box, even if I really want them, but I am definitely mega salty about this LOL. Oh well, will order one whenever the set is actually released, might be a week or so before that happens though.

In any case, here's the stuff I got that I'm going to be adding, plus a few maybes

Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar - when she was spoiled, I knew I wanted her for my Chainer deck. Then Chainer was added to the set as well so I expect this pairing isn't going to be terribly uncommon.

Necrogoyf - has madness, definite include

Calibrated Blast - has flashback

Bone Shredder - by ignoring the echo cost and letting it die, can be abused again and again with Chainer. I am really glad this was reprinted because I was unaware of this card before and hadn't thought to use (or not use, lol) the echo mechanic.

Altar of the Goyf - seems like it would be great in this deck. Something this deck has struggled with is having creatures that are too small to get some decent attacks in, this card might help with that substantially.

Kitchen Imp - has madness, plus it's an imp so it will be resilient to Rakdos, the Showstopper if I end up adding him as well

Discerning Taste - Foil, on theme with Asmor, seems great for this deck

Terminal Agony - has madness, awesome removal spell at common for a discard deck. My partner loves wheel effects, so even in decks that don't have a discard or madness focus, I'm sure this card will find it's way into a few decks

Revolutionist - madness, not sure what it will replace yet though

Faithless Salvaging - maybe, this card made me realize I've overlooked having Faithless Looting in this deck which should probably go in here too

Tragic Fall - this deck wants to have no cards in hand, so it's a maybe, but leaning towards most likely adding it

Bone Shards - definite include here

Phyrexian Obliterator - awesome pull, list card in this set. I've wanted this one for a long while. I don't think this is the right deck for it long term, but it might go in here temporarily just to have the option of playing it.

Lord of the Pit - from old collection, but is on theme with Asmor, and the sacrifice part is only a perk in this deck

SO this deck has undergone some major changes lately! I expect there will be more changes still as I figure out what works or what doesn't, what I like that interacts one way versus another.

{B}{R}Mortal Combat{R}{B}

Mortal Combat - Absolutely love this card. While it's not wise to make this card the only win condition, it is certainly one of the primary ones. I want all of the creatures in the graveyard eventually. Most of the tweaks to this deck will likely center around making this a more viable wincon.

Asmor is a major part of this deck and what finally got me to change up this precon. This section is for all cards that help her abilities out.

Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar - tutors up The Underworld Cookbook

The Underworld Cookbook - discard a card to create a food token, perfect in a madness/discard deck

Witch's Oven - no boring cat/oven combo with the Cauldron Familiar in this deck, this is not what we want to do with Asmor's delicacies here. This is all about bringing sacrificing shit like tokens or Squee, the Immortal or better yet Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger which can be brought back again and again with Chainer for only a discard and two mana.

Card Draw

With so much discarding going on and with generally wanting to have very few cards in hand at any given moment, card draw is important here. This part of my deck will likely need some improvement, but here's what's going on for it so far:

Anje's Ravager - from the precon, can draw 3 after discarding your hand, it's too bad this one doesn't have haste. Madness perk, but on the lookout for something better.

Birgi, God of Storytelling   - while Birgi might sometimes find use, she's here for her other side, Harnfel, Horn of Bounty  . Discard enabler and impulsive card draw.

Bone Miser - conditional card draw. Precon card, I want to like it more than I do.

Greven, Predator Captain - card draw based on sacrificed creature's power. From precon, always love this one

Magus of the Wheel - super important in this deck as he enables big card draw, and can be brought back again to do it all over again.

Void Beckoner aka Spacegodzilla, Death Corona - I'm not sure what was funnier, or that there was the craziest buyout of it, beyond anything even the reserved list has seen in the past year. I think it was $1000 at it's highest...for a common, in print (sort of). In any case, I picked up two of these when they dropped down to $1 (my partner has the other). While it only loosely fits this deck for it's cycle ability, in spirit, this deck begs for it.
