Serra Paragon

Creature — Angel

Flying

Once during each of your turns, you may play a land from your graveyard or cast a permanent spell with converted mana cost/mana value 3 or less from your graveyard. If you do, it gains "When this permanent is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, exile it and you gain 2 life."

Angel of Indemnity

5W - Angel Warrior

Flying, lifelink

When Angel of Indemnity enters the battlefield, return target permanent card with mana value 4 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Encore 6WW

I like this card but not sure if it'll replace Karmic Guide for me. Costs 1 more than Guide and doesn't have an echo cost. It can hit all permanent types but only CMC 4 or less, so similar vein as Serra Paragon but you can do some blink shenanigans with it. The encore effect at 8CMC is only one more than Emeria Shepherd and can hit 3 targets if all opponents are still in play and gives you 15 attack power on board, much more if pumped with Giada.

When you drop Aurelia's Vindicator as a disguise you're paying 3 generic for a 2/2 non angel, non flying body. Then you flip it up for 4X to target X creatures. So at minimum you're paying 8 mana to disguise and flip to target 1 creature. If you're only looking for a stat line then sure it could beat Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld but most people don't run it for the stats, they run it for the meld ability. The only real difference between the 2 is you're swapping first strike for ward 2. I've only melded Gisela twice and people see it coming a mile away so they use single target removal and prevent the meld from happening.

There have been quite a few 3 drop angels released in the past year so I've been pulling angels that are just bodies. I usually want them to have 1 extra ability. If you compare a 4 drop Aurelia to any of the following it pales in comparison due to the lack of extra abilities.

Archangel of Tithes

Battle Angels of Tyr

Firemane Commando

Linvala, Keeper of Silence

Serra Paragon

Angel of Jubilation

In the end it comes down to power level. My original list was close to this one and I won a ton of games when Giada was first released. Since then the store's power level has jumped several levels and you won't keep a board state past turn 5. Giada is also a lightning rod for cheap removal so you'll need some form of protection or be prepared to cast her for 8 mana. If you're still able to have good games with a basic angel aggro deck then that's great but if your pod begins the arms race then be prepared to be outclassed.

I agree that card draw is what makes this guy tick. I personally run 23 draw effects (iirc) while staying on theme. Btw, Faerie Mastermind isn't in your card draw section.

Mystic Remora: This one is meta dependent and is a nice recursion target for Serra Paragon or Hall of Heliod's. Starscream, Power Hungry  Flip: this guy's damage from drawing cards while you're the monarch adds up. I also look at him as a 3 drop. Plumb the Forbidden: Instant speed and pseudo dodging counterspells makes this card. Typically used in response to boardwipes. Aerial Extortionist: Versatile removal and card draw on a flyer. This guy is annoying and its draw triggers from a lot of things like commanders, flashback, rebound, and play from exile effects etc.

Also, a few cards outside of draw engines that I've had good results out of. Divine Visitation: makes any future 1/1 tokens into real threats. Nykthos Paragon: isn't a flyer, but he's an enchantment so he triggers Alela and Alela conveniently has lifelink built in so you can reliably gets the counters from his trigger. It gets out of hand quickly.

That's correct. If a creature cast with Serra Paragon's ability dies, that means the triggered ability granted to it by the Paragon would be triggered by a creature dying, so the Hushbringer in your example will stop it from triggering. It won't get exiled and you won't gain life.

Hushbringer is in play.

I've got Serra Paragon in play. I cast a Giver of Runes from my graveyard.

My opponent Lightning Bolts the Giver of Runes, killing it.

Am I correct that, due to Hushbringer's presence, the ability that Giver of Runes gained from the Serra Paragon ("When this permanent is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, exile it and you gain 2 life") fails to trigger, once again sending the Giver of Runes back to the graveyard rather than to exile?

Unless I'm missing something, this little combo provides infinite recursion (granted at only one cast per turn) for <4 cmc creatures, but it's entirely possible I've missed something.

BotaNickill Khoaemon With black we have access to amazing removal (I used to play it) but Sigarda, Font of Blessings covers our biggest weak points (card draw and protecting our stuff))so well that I am finding hard to pass on her. It's a matter of likes anyway. Serra Paragon fills that spot well if you don't want to go green.

I'll say that the cards that are the core and can't be taken out are Giada, Font of Hope, Bishop of Wings, Righteous Valkyrie, Resplendent Angel and Seraph Sanctuary. Everything else is free range for experimentation.

And i'll add that IMO the perfect start for the deck is having Resplendent Angel making angels by t3, not t4. You can do that 2 ways, either:

t1:white mana source, cast whatever. t2:white mana source, castBishop of Wings t3:Seraph Sanctuary, cast Resplendent Angel.

or

(you still need 2 white lands and a Seraph Sanctuary but you can play them in any order you want here) t1:land, cast Aether Vial. t2:land, cast whatever you want. t3: land, play Bishop of Wings with Aether Vial, cast Resplendent Angel

The second way would be the best one since you can play all your combo pieces during the 3rd turn, so it's harder to see coming or disrupt, and gives us an overall better opening with the vial.

Is Opposition Agent better than Aven Mindcensor? (aven is more evasive tho)

depends on what you want, Aven is a better beater but, Agent is card advantage.

Make a cut for Teferi's Ageless Insight (I cut Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. Archfiend of Ifnir is a good one sided wipe in this deck)

Serra Paragon<Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Norn helps the go wide

More 1 drop creature and more legendary creature suggestions are welcome. (legendary creatures take advantage of Gold-Forged Thopteryx etc).

Iron Apprentice, Krydle of Baldur's Gate, Benthic Biomancer, Cosi's Trickster, Judge's Familiar

Less counter spells required due to many protection spells in deck.

Glen Elendra Archmage w/connive you can keep her online

Consider Rhystic Study (slows my creature attack strat. But op... Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor in its place for now)

Rhystic Study gains table aggro, Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor gets your opponents to look at each other

Weak to oppo swing back. Solutions include war tax effects and vigilance.
