Geist Snatch

Instant

Counter target creature spell. Put a 1/1 blue spirit creature token with flying onto the battlefield.

Somehow Geist Snatch is the only source of a blue spirit token at all, which is weird given how many blue spirits there are overall. Also, Sinister Concoction and Millikin are the only two cards which mill as part of their cost.

Yumegawa River

Legendary Land

Yumegawa River enters the battlefield tapped.

: Add .

, Mill two cards, : Create a 1/1 blue Spirit creature token with flying.

I'd like to see another Land set in Kamiwaga

Some more noncreature spells that get you creatures you can use with the Staff: Abstruse Interference , Efficient Construction , Geist Snatch , Grip of Phyresis , Metallurgic Summonings , Orochi Hatchery , Rise from the Tides , Skywise Teachings , and Thopter Spy Network .

Depending on the decks in your pod, certain suggestions may be better than others.

EDIT - added links

Some Maybeboard cards I think should be in the main deck: Benthicore , Inspired Sphinx , Kederekt Leviathan , Pentavus , Intruder Alarm , and Soothsaying . Myr Turbine and Heartstone are kind of meh, I'd replace with Genesis Chamber and Unstable Obelisk . I'd also swap some counterspells - Geist Snatch , Summoner's Bane and Lazotep Plating in for Cancel , Dissipate and Rewind .

Cards I'd cut: Sage of Epityr , Talrand, Sky Summoner , Bane of Bala Ged , Polymorphous Rush .

Cards I'm not really impressed by: Stormsurge Kraken , Tidespout Tyrant , Windreader Sphinx (depends how much flying you end up with), Sphinx Ambassador , Darksteel Colossus , Pathrazer of Ulamog , It That Betrays . I think it's better to focus on big guys that also have ETB effects than use these.

Some other cards to consider (plus the ones I sent you): Erratic Mutation , Synthetic Destiny , Evacuation , Aether Gale , AEtherize , Crystal Ball , Interpret the Signs , Precognitive Perception , Seer's Lantern , Ugin's Insight , Treasure Map  Flip, Zhalfirin Void .

Looks really cool! It might be pretty spicy to add some stuff like Feast or Famine, Geist Snatch, Grave Birthing, or Ojutai's Summons.

Feyamius on Ertai, the Controlly

I'm building an Ertai deck as well that follows these considerations:

  • I want to counter stuff, and I want to counter it with Ertai

  • If Ertai can't counter stuff, that's probably because I've got nothing to sacrifice. I still want to counter, but I need sac fodder, too. That's why I run otherwise quite bad spells like Geist Snatch and Summoner's Bane. Or, if I don't have a counter spell at hand, I can cast a carddraw spell in response and let Talrand, Sky Summoner, Docent of Perfection  Flip or Metallurgic Summonings do the rest.

  • It's better to never stumble in this kind of situation, so when Ertai counters stuff, I want a new thing on the board immediately to sac it next time. It's like Lullmage Mentor was made for that job in this deck.

  • Another reason I couldn't counter stuff with Ertai may be because he's tapped. I don't want that. He shouldn't be tapped. So I run Deceiver Exarch, Pestermite, and Village Bell-Ringer that I can flash in to untap Ertai - and to serve as sac fooder for his counter ability. How convenient!

  • Again, it's better to never get in this situation. So I gave him a nice little wand: Thornbite Staff. Whenever we sac a creature to counter something, Ertain untaps again immediately. When Lullmage Mentor is on the field, we have a nice little engine here. The Mentor works quite good with Intruder Alarm instead of the Staff, too.

  • Intruder Alarm works equally well with our emergency counterspells. If Ertai is tapped and therefor can't counter stuff, we counter with e.g. Summoner's Bane, get a dude, this entering the battlefield triggers the Alarm and untaps Ertai.

  • Friendly reminder: I want to counter stuff. I don't want to destroy or exile stuff. That's not my thing with this deck. So even if I missed countering something I don't like, I return it to hand, so I can counter it later. Capsize is your best friend in this deck, even if it is a bit boring. Just as Cyclonic Rift. I still have to find something cool and synergistic here.

PrinceJehuty on Temmet, the Token Juggernaut

Nice, I'm building this guy as well - you've given me some great ideas. I'd maybe suggest Flickering Ward or Spirit Loop so when Temmet dies you can keep equipping him or his token. Griffin Guideseems to have some synergy with Temmet too. Wake the Reflections can populate your best token.

Super Secret tech - Spirit Mirror. You're already running Pure Reflection, so destroy your opponents reflections, and create your own tokens. It acts like a weaker bitterblossom too, and you can block with the Reflection tokens since you get a new one each turn

I'm thinking of running the counterspells Geist Snatch and Summoner's Bane to give some protection against huge bomby creatures

Dude, this is amazingly hillarious! I meant to comment a little sooner, but sleep and breakfast came in the way :p (yup, desperately trying to prove that I aon't a robot :p)

I love to token-evolution idea :D if you really want some tokens to "evolve" toss Krenko, Mob Boss in there, you'll have gobs for days!

Also, I'm seconding Snap157 on adding a splash of green, I think you'll find Rhys the Redeemed absolutely monstrous!

Djinn of Infinite Deceits would let you make more use of your tokens.

Skywise Teachings could firther add to your token production ;)

Chasm Skulker could be amazing!

Clone Legion is expensive, but hillarious!

Geist Snatch s expensive, but it's a counter + a token
