Lands are the greatest resource in EDH. They give you a significant advantage if you can get more of them into play and they're hard to interact with, giving me the perfect opportunity to build a deck focused on them.

Hazezon Tamar is a powerful commander as well who has sadly slipped into obscurity due to the wide range of Naya commanders and his prohibitively expensive price point (at $250, you may as well just play Zacama). However, he does benefit off all the lands, so he's the commander of choice (I also received one as a gift years ago).

Your main wincons are:

  • Dark Depths + Thespian's Stage/Mirage Mirror: Turboing out a Marit Lage that can potentially two-shot your opponents is frightening. In a deck like this that can recur the combo, some games can lead to a constant onslaught of Marit Lages, with an answered one replaced by another one.
  • Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle + Scapeshift + Prismatic Omen: With all the ramp in the deck, you can easily deal 20+ damage with a single Valakut. If you manage to copy it with a Thespian's Stage or Mirage Mirror, your damage output is doubled.
  • Hazezon Tamar + Divine Visitation: This is a really busted interaction. Hazezon essentially produces almost 40 power worth of fliers with his downside being nonexistent since they're no longer Sand Warriors. If he dies, there's a good chance you can recast him for even more angels. The Divine Visitation also has some fun interactions with Field of the Dead and Avenger of Zendikar.
  • The slow grind: The deck does pretty well with grinding out opponents, using a combination of versatile board wipes and with most of the deck's power coming from lands. Having multiple Maze of Ith effects with Thaumatic Compass and Kor Haven means single large creatures can't touch you either.
