Matter Over Mind - Kozilek EDH

Commander / EDH* Artifact Colorless Eldrazi

FunkyGraham

This plane is dead... but... the light hasn't gone out. There is still light in this place. Always was, you guess. But the inherent blankness, you feel, something's missing. Something wrong. Nothing grows here. It's all a fine, latticed, powdery cakey limey mess.

It's as if the stuff here is gone, but never really died. There was a sort of permanence to it, a refusal to pass out of existence, an endless conservation. You see massive, bleak towers of white, blank stone. All moving things that remain here are artificial.

Which plane was this, again? Does it matter? Everything recognizable here is dead and crumbling, with exception to a few solid portions, and shifting silent tremors of sand. What happened here? What year is it? Did the Eldrazi strike here? They couldn't have claimed the oceans... Stagnate, evaporate, gelatinize, but moisture should still be there.

And then it hits you.

This is the place.

The very bottom of creation, where all things go when they die. Matter can never be truly undone, not by magic or anything else. The dust cannot be conquered. This is it, then. The ultimate scrapheap of the Blind Eternities.

There are relics here of the most ancient wars, endless wars long fought. Old artifacts reveal their dormant functionality. Ruins so tall they could topple cities if they collapsed. A stronghold built out of dust. Many mad men have come to this place, to seek this masterless, ultimate power. How many, you thought? Was Urza the first? Is this his fallback position, his final sanction? How much of this was his doing? Does time even work here?

No, no, of course not. But any sane mage who wishes to remain so does not ask such questions of a contorted, unnatural place as this. what mattered was the power. Limitless, unending power.

The light never goes out here. Night only comes to other worlds. Just pure light, pure energy. Was this white mana? No, no, you thought, white mana is tranquil, not like this. This is like... electricity. Lightning. Red mana? No, this isn't emotion. No nature, no moisture, not even a whiff of sulfur or even death. This power tastes like hot chalk. What kind of mana was that? It defies description. Only power.

Of course, many other nameless, cosmic things have settled in sleep, finding residence in the eternal dust. If the Multiverse were a pool, they are the rocks at the bottom, among the endless grains of sand, falling through the hourglass of every world. Will they be roused from the deeps, by an unsuspecting foot?

Better watch yourself. In the place where stone sleeps lightly, the stone may wake beneath you, mortal.
