Golgari Keyrune Discussion

Spirits on Glissa, Scrap Trawler $50 EDH

Hey bushido_man96,

Thanks for the suggestion. Sword of the Animist is dominant in this format,

As of just checking now, I'm 0.08 under budget. Sword of the Animist is $2.81, so would need to cut (if I do 1 for 1 instead of downgrading a bunch of other cards), $2.81 - $0.08 = $2.73. Graveborn Muse, Noxious Gearhulk, or Mindslaver are the only possible cuts.

I would probably cut the Scrap Trawler $1.62 or Go for the Throat $1.55 = $3.17 - $2.73 = $0.44 to replace 2 cards. Price of Fame is $0.25, leaving $0.19, which could be Costly Plunder $0.15 or Acidic Slime $0.24 (puts me a bit over).

I was also hoping to get a Hex Parasite in here, but he's $1.76 a little pricey, might need to get both these in. Also have Wanderer's Twig, Traveler's Amulet, or Golgari Keyrune could look at for cheaper ramp, but not as dominant as the Sword of the Animist.

I have been working on Hapatra for a long time. My favorite deck I've built with her is here Another Haptra deck. Hopefully it can help in any way that my comments do not. I personally feel the deck is lacking in the - counters (Yes, I'm aware they are -1/-1, but - just saves a lot of time) synergy. I do like the Blowfly Infestation, Incremental Blight, and some of the other cards cards that benefit through -1 counters. Have you considered Crumbling Ashes? Golgari Cluestone seems to slow. If anything, I'd recommend Golgari Keyrune. Another suggestion I have is going somewhat snake tribal due to hapatra making Deathtouch SNAKE tokens tokens. Just a suggestion. Hope some of it helps. One last thing, this is a token deck; why no Craterhoof Behemoth?

JuQ on Glissa, the Traitor

I love your deck, I always wanted to make a Glissa, the Traitor deck of my own, but I already have too many Golgari commanders, so I run her in the 99.

It feels Glissa is going to be dying lot (mainly because of your own board wipes), Journey to Eternity  Flip may be a good solution to that.

Glissa is practically begging to be equipped with Loxodon Warhammer or O-Naginata (and similar equipments). Few pleasures in this game are comparable to attacking with Deathtouch+First Strike+Trample (Only need to assign 1 damage to each blocker, they die in Fist Strike and the rest of the damage is trampled to the palyer). Another option is using Hunter's Prowess on Glissa or other Deathtoucher to draw a bunch of cards.

Nemesis Mask is also badass on her.

Golgari Keyrune also fits nicely in the theme of the deck.

Yes, I like Deathtouch very much.

I like to use Deal Broker and Gate to the Afterlife (ignoring the activated ability) in my Golgari decks to dump stuff into my graveyard.

Hello! Here are my cut suggestions.

Gonna second DrukenReaps here and confirm that 36 lands and 9 ramp is sufficient for your deck.

1) Dark Ritual one time ramp isn't as good in EDH as it is elsewhere

2) Warped Landscape too expensive for what it does. I'd rather run a land of the color I need more usually.

3) Golgari Keyrune and

4) Golgari Cluestone. Been cutting these in a lot of my decks. Most % of your curve in 3 cmc so you don't want to be playing mana rocks then. You could ad in more 2 cmc mana rocks if you feel like you still need the ramp. Much more useful early and don't slow you down as much late game.

5) Terramorphic Expanse Don't really need it in 2 color.

To differ from DrunkenReaps, I'd advise to stay away from infect, as it will get some hate that can occasionally turn a table against you.

6) Blight Mamba

7) Blightwidow

8) Phyrexian Swarmlord

9) Spinebiter

These cuts will lower your curve to relieve pressure on your your mana base, or free up your 2 drop spot so you can play Hapatra.

Last cut. When cutting stuff I always start at the top of the curve. That is:

Liliana, Death Wielder

I know she does what you want the deck to do and all, but at what cost man?? 7 mana for either a) a single -1/-1 counter on a creature, or b) a kill spell. Either way not efficient at all. And the ultimate, which you'll rarely get to in multiplayer, isn't all that great. Especially down the road if you use more Undying combos.

Hope some of this helps! Good luck!

So removals I'd do at this point are: Dark Ritual, Heroic Intervention, Primal Vigor, Twinblade Slasher, Creakwood Liege, Warped Landscape, Terramorphic Expanse, Golgari Cluestone, Golgari Keyrune

Your deck is also showing 2x crumbling ashes.

This would drop you to 36 lands and 9 mana ramp cards. That should be plenty with an average CMC of 3.3.

I don't like primal vigor with hapatra as it helps your opponents remove negative counters from their creatures. This may not end up being an issue for you in which case you may consider using it but I wouldn't start with it in the deck.

You are using a lot of infect so people are going to come after you just keep that in mind. Triumph of the Hordes would be a good addition to get wins out of nowhere.

Blowfly infestation and hapatra is an infinite combo but needs Parallel Lives, Zulaport Cutthroat, Blood Artist, Grave Pact, Ivy Lane Denizen, Obelisk Spider, or any similar card you enjoy. Some of which you have in here but the other thing to note is the combo doesn't work when you have static anthems in play. It is just something to play around for the most part. I do prefer Kamahl, Fist of Krosa over Beastmaster Ascension.

Ok, so at this point I have 9 things to remove from the deck, due to there not being enough space for the more important cards

1 Stinging Shot

2 Shamanic Revelation

3 Maybe Druids' Repository

4 Fume Spitter

5 Rendclaw Trow

6 Spinebiter

7 Chord of Calling

8 Juvenile Gloomwidow

9 Rot Wolf

Now if there are any different/more cards I should replace then let me know but I have a question about the ramp cards. So I know I am supposed to have around 8 but what counts as ramp? The list that I have is:

1 Commander's Sphere

2 Golgari Cluestone

3 Golgari Signet

4 Golgari Keyrune

5 Sol Ring

6 Devoted Druid (Also used for my combo with Quillspike

Now the two I have more questions about

7 Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip

8 Druids' Repository

So for the last two, do they count? I would assume so but I am not 100% sure. Seriously any help that anyone might have would be awesome. I would like to buy this deck to play at my card shop. On tuesdays they have a casual EDH night. So anything that might improve this deck would be awesome. (While staying on an under $200 budget)

Just noticed you had 2x Crumbling Ashes. That frees up an extra spot.

I agree with the above comments about your mana. 38 lands is what I strive for followed by 8 ramp cards. I also like running Golgari Cluestone and Golgari Keyrune. Also Dark Ritual helps ramp into black.
