Deck Motivation

Ever since I was introduced to Zedruu the Greathearted I've wanted to build a deck around her and what she likes to do (gifting). My first attempt was the typical gifting strategy where I gift crappy cards to my opponents to try (key word here) and lock them out of the game while I benefit from Zedruu's upkeep trigger. The typical win condition for that deck was something like Aetherflux Reservoir (One of my favorite cards); however, this strategy was often swiftly dealt with and as a result had a hard time playing that deck. This time we take a different approach.

How We Want to Win

First, remember this deck has a casual tag so the combos here aren't the most efficient (but I'm always looking to improve!). The big combo this deck is capable of has a few parts:

  1. Infinite mana of any color: This may be achieved through the use of Feldon of the Third Path + Thousand-Year Elixir to reanimate and target AEther Adept + Worldgorger Dragon in the graveyard. Where does the infinite mana come from? First note that this combo needs to be fueled from having seven mana (5 generic and at least 2 red); assuming that we have the mana to fuel the combo add in a land or mana rock that can generate mana of any color. Use the stack to your advantage and use the elixir to untap Feldon in response to using Feldon's ability and then use feldons ability in response to Worldgorger Dragon entering the battlefield to target Venser, Shaper Savant . Once Venser, Shaper Savant enters, target Worldgorger with the ETB of the Adept. Before Worldgorger's ETB resolves tap your untapped mana sources. Now, all your permanents are blinked and you have a field of untapped permanents and some extra mana. Repeat ad nauseum.

  2. Property Theft: Assume you have the previous combo online. Add in Venser, the Sojourner and Vedalken Plotter . You can now exchage all your lands with your opponents with the plotter and then steal your lands back with Venser (you get to activate his loyalty abilities again after he has been blinked.

  3. Lose-Friends Lock-down: Congratulations, you have stolen everyone's lands and have a way of generating semi-infinite mana. Now its time to play Aggressive Mining and target it with Fractured Identity locking your opponents from playing lands for the rest of the game since they don't have enough mana for any responses.

  4. Backup Plan: If they don't concede, then you can always win through Approach of the Second Sun .

What the Rest of the Deck Is There For

Really, the rest of the deck is making sure that you get access to your mana as early as possible and/or provide a decent control shell. Also, some of the cards provide some redundancy to the combo above even if the end result is achieved in a slightly different way.
