Hello! welcome to my primer for Urza, Lord High Artificer . This deck can be tuned for many different approaches whether it be Cheerios (or eggs), Storm, Stax, or just labman. My deck chooses to follow the Laboratory Maniac approach but the other options are still good if not better. This primer will be explaining the combo lines, and why we are running the cards. I will go over the instants, artifacts, creatures, lands and enchantments. Make sure to upvote if you find this helpful!!
The way this deck is designed is for you to make infinite mana any number of different ways (I will be explaining how in a minute) and then drawing your entire deck into exile with Urza. Once you have done this we can win in three main different ways 1. labman + draw spell 2. Jace, Wielder of Mysteries (if they kill or labman) 3. Karn, the Great Creator + Mycosynth Lattice

Urza: A Guide to Making Infinite Mana

We can make infinite mana using three main combos in this deck. 1. Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter and any number of artifacts out that produce three or more mana. For example say we have Isochron Scepter with dramatic reversal exiled, with A Sol Ring, and a Chrome mox, all untapped. The first step is to tap our Sol Ring to tap our Isochron Scepter. this will than trigger and cast Dramatic reversal. With the dramatic reversal on the stack tap your Chrome mox to float a blue. Dramatic reversal resolves and everything untaps, including the scepter. Rinse and repeat.

  1. Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth . This combo will only generate colorless but it still allows us to make infinite mana for our commander. Play rings of brighthearth and basalt monolith, tap the monolith for 3 colorless. Rings of brighthearth will trigger allowing you to pay 2 of the colorless to double the monolith's ability adding another three. Now you have 4 colorless. use three of it to untap the monolith and repeat the process. Note make sure to have 2 blue available to cast you commander so you can win that turn. If you can't maybe consider leaving one combo piece in your hand so they don't instantly get removed. Or make sure you have countermagic to protect them.

  2. Paradox Engine + any artifacts that tap for 5 total. now this is the least consistent of the three combos because it requires you have more artifacts out than the others and because it requires you to cast spells to untap. The main way I use this combo is to first make sure I have enough artifacts to activate Urza's ability. then I tap them to do this. for example say I have out Paradox Engine, Sol ring, Chrome mox, and mox opal, plus my commander on the battlefield. I would tap them as follows, sol ring for 2 colorless and the rest for 3 blue. then I would cast the cheapest card in my hand, Lets say a mox amber. Trigger untap them all mox amber resolves. I can now tap them all again for one additional blue this time cause of the Mox Amber. so now I have 4 colorless and 7 blue. You should keep doing this until you have no cards left in your hand to cast that generate positive mana. once you have no more cards to cast start activating Urza's ability. now the reason this combo is the least consistent because if you have for example 10 mana floating and activate you commander twice and hit double lands you whiff and can no longer do anything. But you can just as easily hit two spells or artifacts to untap all of your non-land permanents and keep going.

  3. Urza: How to win once you have infinite mana so this is the simplest part. Once you have infinite mana trigger your commander exiling your entire deck. from here you can do three things. 1. Labman + draw spell 2. jace, wielder of mysteries 3. Karn + mycosynth lattice Any of these combos can win you the game. The order you should do these are the order their numbered. Karn lattice combo is just for if you don't resolve or stick the other two.
