CHOOSING MY COMMANDER

I chose The First Sliver as my commander because of his 'cascade' effect. This will allow me to swarm the field with slivers. I could have kept Sliver Gravemother but graveyard style decks are not my style or strong suit. Sliver Overlord is my second choice, but it would be a deck built around his stealing ability and not really built around slivers. Sliver Legion is a good choice, but is a great support for First's ability to swarm the field. Sliver Hivelord is another good choice as it is protection in my command zone, but with all the exile effects out there, I would rather re-use First over Hivelord. Sliver Queen *oversized* would be amazing... if I had enough money to afford one, but the deck would turn into an infinite combo deck.

MY HISTORY WITH SLIVERS

So when I started playing MtG, I was hooked to tribal decks as my first three kitchen table decks were goblins, Myr, and Samurai. A friend of mine had the 60 card precon for Slivers and later bought the Premium Sliver deck to add to his collection. When I went to Job Corps, he gave me all his MtG cards as I was the only person who played with him. I built a 60 card kitchen table Sliver deck that dominated my playgroup, but that was short lived as somewhere along the way my Sliver deck got stolen.

When I graduated, my playgroup felt bad for me so they had secretly bought Sliver cards through me (I had internet and a debt card, so I would buy cards for people with a $5 fee) in order to give them to me as a goodbye gift. I named it my "Power of Friendship" deck and even put it in Pinky sleeves (no I am not a Brony and all my knowledge of My Little Pony comes from a HOI4 mod). I would play against my wife with it, but she quickly vetoed it and would only play against it on special occasions.

Around 2014, I was introduced to Commander and I built a Sliver Hivelord deck after my wife pulled one out of a pack. She even bought my Sliver Legion for my 26th birthday for me. But despite all that, she quickly vetoed it again, so it went on the shelf where it would eventually be taken apart and most of the cards lost in my collection or sold off.

Than in 2023, my love for the Slivers was reborn as the Sliver Swarm deck was spoiled. Luckily, a Eldrazi deck was also spoiled so my wife preordered both decks for us. I used that deck as the base for the deck you see before you. My wife also pulled The First Sliver for me.

In 2025 I started playing Commander weekly at my LGS (Dragonslayer Games) and this deck has become the deck I am known to pilot despite me trying to be known at "that Dino dude". I have worked tirelessly to improve this deck so it could go hand-to-hand with the completive players at my LGS while not being cEDH levels. In 2025 I also found a Pinfinity card for The First Sliver and I now run that as my Commander.
