Rules Clarification on Mizzix of the Izmagnus :

• Converted Mana Cost is always the Costs in the upper right corner of the card. No exceptions.
• The only special case for CMC are cards with X (or Y) in their upper right corner. Mizzix checks cards upper right corner by looking at the stack when the spell is cast. So if you choose X to be 5 for example, the CMC of the spell on the stack is increased by 5.
• Anywhere else X is regarded as 0 when checking for a cards CMC. (e.g. Hand, Graveyard, on the battlefield, exile)
• Additional or alternative costs such as Kicker, Buyback and Overload are not relevant for CMC! No exceptions.
• Once you choose X, alternative or additional costs, Mizzix discount applies to the generic mana. Buyback, Overload and any amount of generic X-costs are therefore reduced by this effect too!
