Added a bit more discard to the deck. Trying to shift the focus of the deck to something a bit more tricky rather than to smash face with big creatures.

Test #6 & Test #7

introvertigo, 12 years ago

Test 6: I played against the same W/U D&T mentioned previously and lost 0-2. I couldn't stabilize quickly enough and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben + Judge's Familiar / Spiketail Hatchling kept me from playing anything useful and then Leonin Arbiter + Ghost Quarter crippled me completely. This has once again raised the issue if I should raise the land count to 23 or 24. This is a very mana-hungry deck and triggering Landfall for Searing Blaze or Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle could prove to be useful. Maybe I'll replace Chimeric Mass with Ghitu Encampment or just with basic Mountains to make Valakut more reliable.

Test 7: I played against B/G control that used cards such as Geralf's Messenger, Abrupt Decay and Smallpox + some Retrace cards and 1-of Life from the Loam and I won 2-0. In the second game, I sideboarded Crypt of Tormod, which pretty much hosed both Bloodghast recurrence and Loam engine. Gotta love those graveyard decks, mwahaha.

Primordial Hydra!

pkcentral, 12 years ago

I recently saw Primordial Hydra in another elf deck and it really caught my eye. I can put counters on it with Quest for the Gemblades which can lead to big wins or if Bramblewood Paragon is out the hydra will have trample immediately as he comes into play. Funnily, though, Oran-Rief, the Vastwood does nothing for the hydra since either the mana ability or the counter ability will result in the same amount of counters on him.

Annihilating Fire

predian, 12 years ago

Annihilating Fire has been added into the sideboard as a 2 of for R/B zombie match ups that use the more midrange version with stuff like Thundermaw Hellkite, Falkenrath Aristocrat and Hellrider.

Pretty sure I will end up swapping it out for Searing Spear instead but just want to play test with it first.

Took a look at a deck similar to mine by Slycne and got some ideas. took out flames of the firebrand and 4 mountains to make room for Bump in the Night, dragonskull sumit, and because of shortages of the last, Rakdos Guildgate. deck is still as smooth and costs less. thanks for the ideas Slycne!

Rakdos Cackler feature for RDW (rtr)

meadowsatsunshine, 12 years ago

Taking out the mana doublers and giving Tangle Wire a try. Open to suggestions for the lands section. I've got a floating spot currently running High Market that I'm not sure can't be filled better.

moux, 12 years ago

Removed Bonfire of the Damned and Frogmite, both, too slow. I added the last Blinkmoth Nexus and removed 2x Glimmervoid for 2x Mountain.

Moved 2x Etched Champion to the main, for 26 Creatures, and decided on a 4x Galvanic Blast and 2x Shrapnel Blast split.

Decided on the sideboard as well. And putting in a single Rakdos Charm if I run into Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.

Modern Tournament

Scotland, 12 years ago

overall 7 wins 5 losses or (3-1) only loss was to an infinite angel deck (kiji and replenishing angel) Beat out elf deck and a infinite draw grapeshot deck Elf deck...burn every creature Spell deck....direct dmg to face and swing everytime with creatures/ burn the creatures that cheapen spells. This deck vs. modern deck was a challenge, however I feel confident it'll dominate in standard only tournaments. I took second in the tournament having only lost to the angel deck which took first,

Did alright at my first FNM :D

I decided that I wanted to make this deck revolve around Vampire Nocturnus more, and basically took out all sources of mono red besides Stromkirk Noble which is the only creature in the deck that can give me presence on turn one.

Anyway round 1: I'm new to the format, so I don't know all the decks running around, but I had never seen anything like it. It seemed like a casual deck that was centered around Gutter Grime and undying creatures. It was a pretty easy 2-0 victory for me. Round 2: Mirror match......... He never missed a land drop and was able to steal my nocturnus with Olivia Voldaren on turn 5 he got the buff with my nocturnus, and proceeded to wreck me. I sideboarded in a 3rd olivia, and still never drew one even with Underworld Connections and a Sign in Blood Stole my Falkenrath Aristocrat on turn 5 again, and I lost, again. 0-2, 1-1 on the night. Round 3: Spirit token deck focused around producing tokens and Favorable Winds and intangibile virute to buff them. The first game he mulled to 5, I mulled to 6, he never dropped more then 2 lands all game, and it was an easy win. The second game he came out suprisingly fast, and I didn't draw into any of my 3-drops, the only creatures I got all game were Blood Artist and Olivia Voldaren I didn't draw into my Sever the Bloodline I sidebarded in. The third game it was pretty evenly matched when he had enough spirits to lethal me I basically pulled a Sever the Bloodline out of my ass, and he conceded.2-1, and I was 2-1 on the night. Round 4: I played control.... i could go into detail, or I could just say I got raped and you would get the idea.0-2. I went 2-2, if anyone could help me against control I would appreciate it. I think i'm going to run more dreadbore to deal with tamiyo.

FNM 30 Nov

daknik, 12 years ago

A better night of FNM with this deck. All the changes I made to the deck were well received.

Match 1: Win (2-0)

I played against solid Loleth Troll scavenge deck.

Game 1: He didn't draw any creatures, missed creatures with Grisly Salvage. and overall just wasn't drawing anything useful. I put down a Vampire Nighthawk on turn 3 and played Increasing Savagery on turn 4 for a severe beating. It was over on turn 6.

Game 2: He got a Lotleth Troll out early and started discarding scavenge creatures to the troll. As he dropped me to 3 life, he tapped out and I was able to Murder the troll without fear of regeneration. After that, I put a Dreg Mangler out and caught Blessings of Nature on a miracle and that was the end of the game.

Match 2: Loss (0-2)

G/W Ramp. Lots of mana elves to build up mana to put out Armada Wurms.

Game 1: He got an Armada Wurm out early and I couldn't defend against it.

Game 2: I had to peel my jaw off the floor after what happen in this round. Of course he started out early with lots of mana elves. Then he surprised me with a Sublime Archangel and paired it with Silverblade Paladin and swung for 22 flying on turn 5.

Match 3: Win (2-0)

A B/R deck with very little synergy. This match wasn't very memorable, he didn't seem to have focus and was crushed in each game

Match 4: Win (2-1)

A red goblin deck with Krenko, Mob Boss as the center of the deck.

Game 1: I was unable to get any green mana and I had a hand full of green cards. So I sat and watched as he trampled me with goblins.

Game 2: I got my green mana this round and was able to get creatures built up. Golgari Charm took care of the token goblins and Murder took care of Krenko, Mob Boss for me. After that I was able to crush him with my counter stacked creatures.

Game 3: Same as game 2

Match 5: Loss (1-2)

A Rakdos flavored RDW. Using Stromkirk Noble and Hellrider as the primary attackers.

Game 1: Primordial Hydra crushes small creatures, especially when you pair it with Increasing Savagery. He scooped immediately after I hit 10 counters

Game 2: He boarded in a lot of direct damage spells to kill my creatures before I could build up any counters. After all my creatures were killed, I was easy pickings.

Game 3: He had also boarded in Traitorous Blood and took control of a counter stacked Predator Ooze. and killed me with it.

All in all it was a good night with a 3-2 overall. I was happy with all of the changes and I thinking about a few more changes. Once I have made up my mind, I will list the changes.

Small tweaks

CrimsonKing, 12 years ago

Made some minor changes after many many games on cockatrice and a few at the local shop. I also wanted to clear up the comments

I added 2x Forbidden Alchemy main board for a late game instant speed draw spell. Doing this allows me to find answers such as finding a Cyclonic Rift . Added Fog against aggro decks. Thought Scour was added for some extra draw and so was Underground Connections.

I'm looking to improve the sideboard against token decks and aggro. Suggestions for sideboard cards are very much appreciated.

Forbidden Alchemy feature for Memory Decay

helushune, 12 years ago

Took this to Standard tonight at a pretty casual place and ended up 2-1.

Game 1 - Pack Rat deck. I really like the concept of a rat deck but it just didn't stand up. 2-0.

Game 2 - Red Deck Wins. I didn't manage to draw a single Slaughter Games and almost was taken out simply by my opponent casting miracle Thunderous Wrath. Vampire Nighthawk's lifelink really saved me. Ended up 2-1.

Game 3 - Naya Reanimator. All three games were incredibly close. Again, I just couldn't draw Slaughter Games to take out his Thragtusk and Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip. 1-2.

I also played some non-tournament games against other players and only ran in to problems against a tier 1 Jund deck. I'll be taking this deck to a more competitive standard tournament on Wednesday to see what happens.

Finally have the 100

evil_monkey, 12 years ago

I finally have the initial 100 cards put together for the deck. All cards are subject to change as I find things that don't work or find things that work better. Any additional suggestions and +1's would be SUPER helpful! Thanks for all the wonderful help already everyone!

no more mind rot...

gheridarigaaz, 12 years ago

I saw the card as a lot more useful than it was, neglecting the fact that other, more important things were being ignored...

I took out a Remand for one Rite of Replication, hopefully to stack with Hedron Crab.

What am I doing?

blixna_waka, 12 years ago

Problems to date:

Lack of filter outside the two Diabolic Tutor makes mulliganing to find combo pieces a pain, and slows you down. I need to ramp and filter for Omniscience and Conflux Simultaneously. Ideas?

Blargenspargle, 12 years ago

I thinned the mana base and added Aether Vial, replacing Champion of the Parish (not a knight after all), swapped Accorder Paladin for Knight of Meadowgrain and changed about the sideboard. Credit to Scaglio, thanks for the help.

Figuring out the balance

Direwulf, 12 years ago

So, I took out Isperia and Archon of Justice. They were just too costly for my build. I'm also focusing more on enchanting small creatures like Elite Inquisitor and Precinct Captain to make up for their low power/toughness stats and give me more strength midgame. The supreme verdicts are really coming in handy when playing faster decks. I'm not really sure what more I should add to make it better at this point.

Dialed in

astidonius, 12 years ago

So Ive gone up to 4 Blade of the Bloodchief and added 4 Bloodghast to really focus on the combo they provide. Ive added a second Olivia Voldaren cause shes too good to only have 1 of. I also added Blackcleave Cliffs and Blood Cryptfoil. So the deck is back down to 60 cards, and the red balance and red mana supply seem to be way better. I might add 2 more Blood Cryptfoil to replace the last 2 Mountains. Let me know what you all think about the changes.

Substitutions

msbrooklyn, 12 years ago

Took out Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief for another Olivia Voldaren, Doom Blade and Vampiric Fury for Dreadbore and Shock. Trying to add more emphasis on creature kill to boost the Blade of the Bloodchief ability. Looking for something like that to replace Bump in the Night.
