Deck Changes

taltosravenloft, 12 years ago

I am considering making Krenko, Mob Boss the commander for this deck. As much as Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician is fun, I want to crank out goblins faster. To support this goal, I took out Empty the Warrens since this deck does not go berserk with the Storm count. For the same cost I can cast Beetleback Chief and get a guaranteed 4 power worth of goblins. IN: Beetleback Chief OUT: Empty the Warrens

Deck Update

taltosravenloft, 12 years ago

I went through the deck and found that I needed more consistency (in terms of mana and being able to grab what I want), speed, and win conditions. IN: Blightsteel Colossus, Unwinding Clock, Watery Grave, Quicksilver Amulet, Godless Shrine, Hallowed Fountain, Mirrorworks, Phyrexian Metamorph, Grim Monolith, Glacial Fortress, and Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas OUT: Whispersilk Cloak, Vedalken Archmage, Artificer's Intuition, Plains (2), Drifting Meadow, Remote Isle, Crystal Shard, Isochron Scepter, Ethersworn Adjudicator, Arcbound Reclaimer, Boomerang

Minor updates

Tested at last two FNM. The original deck went well againist lockdown control mill (isochron scepter with silence and etheral haze). I easily countered that with azorius guildmage and his counter target activated ability. Even if he manages to isochron with silence berfore my guildmage, i just waited to have enough mana and then casted dispel and guildmage. I also managed to take downn mono green ramp deck with big creatures. Again, thanks to my guildmage with tap target creature. The rest i blocked with my big big walls with the help of dramatic rescues and inaction injunction. I took him down from 34 hp while I was only at 4hp. He had no chance to get that 4 dmg to me for like 8 turns. The last deck I played againist was mass artifacts and cheap creatures with "when this enters the battlefield, sacrifice it, unless you return artifact you control to your hand". It was easy with ornithopters and memnites. I had no chance to block 8 creatures on turn 3, where every attacked for one or two hp. So I decided to add some mass destruction in. I got detention sphere and supreme verdict, which turned out to be very useful againist classic modern miracle deck. I just wiped the board of 8 4/4 angel tokens (twice entreat the angels, 1 on miracle) and then finish my opponent off with celestial collonade and azorius keyrune. So after that I decided to move training grounds to sideboard and I am not sure, if they manage to survive in this deck. I need more supreme verdicts and maybe another counterspells. I wonder about spell pierce.

Creature swaps

dzsinksz, 12 years ago

Having acquired some missing creatures and going through M2013 and RTR I found some replacement for expensive or unfitting cards. Quite open for suggestions either for this or any others. I still need to review the last two editions if anything from there fits.

Deck Changes

blazinazian, 12 years ago

So a couple changes to the deck have been made.

First off, thanks to Wittee for his suggestions about switching out Avacyn's Pilgrim for Deathrite Shaman and switching out Mulch for Farseek.

With Farseek, I can ramp much faster and possibly get Seance out on turn 3 and Thragtusk on turn 4.

If for whatever reason I use Grisly Salvage and there is land in my graveyard, Deathrite Shaman can help me utilize those lands.

My land base has also been fixed so that it isn't as crappy.

Now I took out the Centaur Healers because I feel that between Thragtusk and Trostani, Selesnya's Voice I should have enough life gain.

Some additions to this deck are Lotleth Troll and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. With Lotleth Troll I will be able to get the creatures that I want into my graveyard and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord provides a sac outlet that will full utilize Seance. For example, if I have Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord in the field and I hard cast Thragtusk, I can sacrifice Thragtusk, get a 3/3 Beast token, and get Thragtusk back on my opponent's upkeep for net gain of 10 life.

Keep the suggestions coming everyone and, as always, thank you for your input.

Better than i thought

Valentine35, 12 years ago

I made this deck in hopes of just screwing around with the idea of utilizing a bunch of enchantments, because i like Ethereal Armor. So after playing with this deck for about 2 weeks now, i found that it really works great. Not many people have sideboards consisting of enchantment removal, and when they see me playing U/W they think im playing control and are completely shocked to find out thats its pretty much an aggro deck. Put it htis way, this deck surprised me by winning way more than i thought it would. Also i took out a Supreme Verdict and Terminus to add 2xDetention Sphere.

Primadox

gonzaloniko, 12 years ago

I removed 2 of the Primadox and put in 2 Cloudshift because the Primadox it's not allways good. My deck it's very fun and have a lot of ways to play it and this is why i like it so much, so then 4 Primadox it's not a good choice. I decide to make that change to have another one card with low cost and faster effect than Primadox... Let's try it!!

I am thinking I want to use Lifelink and life gain more in this deck and I want to probably rotate it towards all flyers.

I dropped the 4 Primeval Titans for 4 Wolfir Silverhearts. This was mostly due to the price.

Fnm update: This was my first actual fnm I played at so I am going to give a quick description of each round nothing too detailed. Round one: Vs. Jund Game one: My opponent mulled to 6 and I kept a pretty average 7. Early turns each of us played farseek. Not much also happened besides a Huntmaster from my opponent. I got behind by my opponent's olivia, which also took my Restoration Angel. I wiped the board but was at a low life total. I top decked a Thragtusk to jump right back into the game. I don't quite remember what happened after this. I eventually won the game after a back and forth battle though. Game 2: My opponent mulled to 5 and I believe I kept a decent 7. In this game we both started slow once again. We each played two thragtusks. We both traded. I managed to play a Garruk which did some real work pumping out threats and drawing cards. Garruk along with Tamiyo and Jace eventually won me the game with time nearly running out. 1-0 Round two: vs. Jund Game one: We each kept seven I think. A turn one deathrite Shaman did some real work for him. This game lasted quite awhile and both life totals stayed relatively the same. I eventually revelationed, which opened up the game for the eventual win. Game two: This was probably the game of the night. I dont remember who mulled this game. On turn 4 I believe he slaughter gamed my revelations. It continued to go back and forth until I managed to get a Restoration Angel on the board along with Tamiyo. I hit him down to 8 but he managed to dreadbore it. Without much card draw from either side, our hands were basically empty. Every threat he drew I managed to wipe or sphere away. A string of Hellriders managed to get him back into the game. The life totals were 3 to 4 in my favor with like 2 minutes left in the round. I top decked a restoration angel and passed. I also held a Negate. He top decked a Dreg Mangler and rancored it with the one he had in hand. I negated it. I flashed the restoration angel in for the win. 2-0 Round 3: Vs G/W Aggro Game one: I started out pretty fast with farseek and he managed a string of threats. I wiped the board and played Thragtusk. Along with Tamiyo, Garruk, and Jace in play, he scooped it up. Game two: He got out of the gates fast but I wiped and played Thragtusk. I eventually blinked it with Restoration Angel. I held his Restoration angel tapped with Tamiyo. It looked like a clear victory but township and Sigarda made an appearace. Unable to draw a Terminus I was left dead. Game three: I felt good being on the play. I wiped a few mana creatures along with smiter and geist. Still he continued to draw threat after threat. I top decked a Terminus just in time. I later played Angel of Serenity for the win. 3-0 Round four: Esper tokens/control Game one: Game one was pretty lopsided in my favor. He flooded out and I managed enough threats to beat him even though the game still went twenty minutes. Game two: This game lasted about 30 minutes I believe. I never really felt threatened this game. I detention sphered his Sorin and Tamiyo. I managed to forge an attack but Lingering Souls kept getting in my way. I eventually went up to like 50 life and he was at like 8. I revelationed for four mid game which really opened up even more. Terminus kept him in the game along with lingering souls. He kept digging late in the game so he prob only had 10-15 cards. I knew I needed to draw into Jace, Memory Adept to win. I couldn't find it with 30 seconds left in the round. My opponent decided the game was too one sided so he gave me the win. 4-0 Round 5: We drew into the top 8 so I finally get a break. 4-0-1 Quarterfinals:Vs. G/W Aggro Game one: Rancor was a huge problem and so was Silverblade Paladin. I managed to Supreme Verdict once but it wasn't enough. Game two: I farseeked into a turn 3 Supreme Verdict. After that I Assembled a team of attackers and rode them to victory. Game three: I was feeling pretty good with my opener. I gained like 6 life off two Centaur Healers until I managed a Supreme Verdict. I laid a Thragtusk and jumped right back into the game. However, my opponent laid threat after threat. I got stuck on 5 lands with a terminus in my opener so I took some damage. I eventually hit the 6th land and wiped the board. I drew into an Angel of Serenity and a Thragtusk over the next 3 turns. He laid a Sigarda with rancor. I was at 8 life so I had the option of laying Thragtusk to go to 13 or play Angel of Serenity to get back a healer and angel. I laid the Angel thinking I could trade with the Sigarda and still have threats. As soon as I passed the turn I knew I had lost. Something in his face told me. He had an o ring in hand and a charm. He o ringed my angel and pumped sigarda for the win. Tough break. 4-1-1 Sorry if the updates are a little sloppy and not very detailed. It is hard to remember everything. Please don't criticize. Thanks guys.

Live game against a tournament deck

Scotland, 12 years ago

White Human Soulbound lifelink Doublestrike & +1/+1 counter for each creature that came into play

My opening hand was mediocre, and his he said was one of his better hands. Won by burning creatures and using 2 and then 3x Hellrider

Second game game bad opening hand vs bad opening hand. Got mana screwed (stuck at 3 for several rounds) in the end, couldn't out damage the lifelink doublestrike and lost. Got him down to 11 from 20 3 times, but several arrests hurt and I got put on the defensive.

No 3rd game.

I feel confident that even against a good deck and being smart about muligans, this deck would win 2 out of 3.

Wish I could play this deck online in some fashion for more practice.

Imminent Changes

beatsplitz, 12 years ago

Two things that I feel like are out of place;

Lightning Mauler and MAYBE Ghostly Touch although I learned a sweet trick using it to untap a land and get Krenko, Mob Boss out a turn earlier.

Here's what I'm thinking about doing: Replacing the Lightning Maulers with Rummaging Goblins and switching out the Faithless Lootings for a few Reforge the Souls. Opinions on this strategy? Will help me move at a much faster pace hopefully, and I can dig for those miracles on my opponents turn with Rummaging Goblin.

I just tried this deck out at FNM last friday and i managed to make third out of 20 or so, it was a close game but i tied for second and was given third. Thanks for looking/commenting/or giving plus ones, keep them coming.

zurreal, 12 years ago

I've narrowed instants and sorceries down to those six (13 cards total): 2x Doom Blade, 3x Go for the Throat, 2x Surgical Extraction, 2x Tragic Slip, 2x Vile Rebirth and 2x Despise or Distress. They have been pretty effective at dominating the battlefield, and knowing (and removing) what's coming. However, I occasionally find myself with a kill card or two too many -- considering swapping for a Skinrender or two... thoughts?

Also, I'm still testing this, so advice welcome, especially on the sideboard!

EDIT: Currently testing with 2x Skinrender swapped in for 1x Endless Ranks of the Dead and 1x Go for the Throat.

Finished 28th out of 70 with a 3-3-1 record. I had some horrible luck and draws and I find that Sphinx's Revelation eats this deck alive.

My Round 1 Match was a R/W/U Clone deck to which, had to mulligan my opening no land hand (always great way to start, eh?). From there I lost that game, but took the next two.

My Round 2 Match was against R/B Zombies. I had much practices against it, so I beat it in two games to none.

Round 3 Match was against another R/W/U deck, but this was more control. It was also my first match up against the Revelation. Game one went to him, but it had been extremely close. I was top decking and he had a full hand.

Round 4 Match was a match I should have won. I had to mulligan and go first and kept a bad hand. Game two, I was stuck on four lands forever and by the time I got the mana I needed, I couldn't keep up. I did wipe the board 4 times though.

Round 5 Match was vs Bant Control. I lost the first game, but the match ended in a draw since no one could kill the other (again due to Revelations).

Round 6 Match was vs Jund Midrange. No problems at all and I took it two games to none.

Round 7 Match was the final one to which I got to play versus another mirror. But again, the Revelation won the day to my opponent since I could not run over him (had him to 1 at one point). Game almost went to time, but he top decked an Angel of Serenity.

All in all, I should have played the mirror more. My sideboards were right on, but I could have probably done a bit more. In the end, I was playing a deck I like, but isn't my strong point. I am an Aggro player and that was precisely what took first place.... G/W Humans.

I'll be going back to G/W Aggro for next week!

Side Board

arkaedes135, 12 years ago

Changed my side board to being more of an actual side board, I had built one just to say that I had one but now I have added 4 Ultimate Price and 3 Bramblecrush and removed the 1 Abrupt Decay for more versatile removal if needed. I also added 3 Terminus because I was having trouble with Junk Token decks getting out of control on me in the late game, and 1 more Thragtusk because why not? My friend has suggested that I drop the number of Bramblecrush down to 2, but I think that I should have 3 because if I am going to side it in I should be seeing it. I remember reading a while back that the ratio for haveing cards to seeing cards went like this: 4 of; see it in the opening hand, 3 of; see it in the first 5 turns, 2 of; see it once a game, 1 of; see it every other game. Not sure if this is actually correct but it certainly feels like it sometimes.

Planeswalker addition

Replaced Hypersonic Dragon with Jace, Memory Adept for an alternate win condition.

Tournament at Cab Comics - 11/30/12

zandl, 12 years ago

Started against a G/W mid-range deck. Wasn't too bad. I got steamrolled in the first game after drawing 5 lands in a row, but the second and third games were decided by Abrupt Decay killing off Selensya Keyrunes and Loxodon Smiters, and Chandra, the Firebrand copying Dreadbores to kill Armada Wurm in its entirety. 2-1

Second round, I battled against a Bant Control deck with Geist of Saint Traft and a few other early-game bombs. Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip flipps over, though, and started thrashing his life away. Every Planeswalker he cast met a Dreadbore on the following turn and he couldn't catch up. For the second game, I melted his face with Farseek on turn 2, Chandra, the Firebrand on turn 3, and a copied Rakdos's Return for 3 on turn 4. His hand was gone and he was top-decking with nothing on the board. Deathrite Shaman ate up his previous hand and he couldn't do anything. 2-0

Round 3, I was up against a 4CC deck. He couldn't find a second blue source for Dissipate or Jace, Architect of Thought and a Vraska the Unseen on my fourth turn ticked up in Loyalty. By the time he could start playing permanents, Vraska was using Vindicate each turn to clear the way for Ravager of the Fells  Flip and its Wolf token. Second game, he got land-screwed against and scooped on turn-3 against Chandra. It was probably for the best, though, since Rakdos's Return for 3 (copied for 6) was going to happen on the following turn.

Round 4, I was pitted against RakDos Wins. He got me too low in life in the first game for me to stabilize. Second game, he had out two Rakdos Shred-Freaks and I cast a Chandra, the Firebrand, killing one off and killing the other on the following turn. Landing a Thragtusk after that solidified my board position and life total. Game 3, he was stuck on 3 lands with 2 (assumed) un-castable cards. I copied Slaughter Games with Chandra, named Thundermaw Hellkite and Hellrider, and both were there. Yes, I know the first one resolves and I get to look at his hand, then the second resolves and I can just call something from his hand. But I was getting ahead of myself. And I'm still a winner.

Top 8 - Played against the G/W mid-range guy from the first round. I got land-flooded 2 games in a row. Second game, had a massive board with Gavony Township out. After a series of complicated blocks, I was at 1 life and then top-decked Bonfire of the Damned. It would've saved me if it wasn't for his Thragtusk giving him a Beast token. Very unfortunate.

Post-tournament thoughts:

Chandra, the Firebrand is shit-balls amazing. Why is no one playing her?! She's retardedly good. Copying ANY of the spells in your average Jund deck will either give you a MASSIVE advantage or simply win you the game (like a turn-4 Rakdos's Return for 3, which becomes "Your opponent takes 6 and discards his/her hand"). And her ultimate is essentially Bonfire of the Damned for 6. Which can also just end the game.

Underworld Connections is also very good. For the extremely low price of 1 life a turn, I'm drawing twice as many cards as my opponent.
