Who wouldn't join and follow the Ghost Daddy?

Status: not played

It is a deck that consists of colors of my life. When I saw Obzedat, I couldn't just past him and not build and EDH around him. This list that you can see is where it evolved.

I tried to make the deck a little bit faster than the prototype I had. It was just too slow. But I have feeling that this one can be fun to play with, fun to play against and it can be competitive.

Now it is more like a control deck:

  • hand disruption: Essential, represented by Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, Duress, Hymn to Tourach, Tidehollow Sculler and Parallax Nexus .

  • walkers: Board control represented by Elspeth, additional tutor represented by Liliana.

  • removal: When playing W/B, there must be spot removals, like Vindicate and Go for the Throat, but also some board wipes, like Damnation and Wrath of God to take care about the board when needed.

  • resurrection: We are playing black, right?

  • mana boosts: Needed to speed this deck up a little bit. Represented by Orzhov Signet and Coldsteel Heart.

  • creatures: W/B have so many powerful creatures that it is very hard to pick some of them. Those I pick somehow goes with the deck and have worked for it quite good so far.

  • combos: And as this is more of a control deck, we are looking for some combos. There are 2 main combos here:

a) Buried Alive (searching for Triskelion + Phyrexian Devourer + Necrotic Ooze) + Animate Dead/Reanimate/Necromancy (reanimating the Necrotic Ooze) = instant win (infinite damage)

b) Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond/Vizkopa Guildmage = infinite lide drain

This deck can surely be done better. There might be some additional tutors, more board wipes, different creatures, equipments, combos and so on. It is up to each of us, which way we choose. This is something between them.

How about Shallow Grave in the deck, replacing Necromancy?

I'd like to point out combo (a) is not a legitimate 'combo'. Due to Phyrexian Devourer 's sacrifice effect Necrotic Ooze will have to be sacrificed immediately if it's power/toughness reaches more than 7. You can't remove the excess counters from it to negate this effect. This means going through each top card of your library, dishing out damage, and hoping you don't hit a high cmc card before you have to sack necrotic ooze.

@AridGentleman: What you say would have been true had Phyrexian Devourer not received an errata that removed the sacrifice clause from the activated ability (you can checky it here). Since Necrotic Ooze only cares about activated abilites and couldn't care less about the triggered ones, you can make the Ooze gigantic and shoot the table to death ;)

And as a side note, if the sacrifice clause was still part of that ability, you would still be able to deal quite a lot of damage, provided you have enough 1-2 CMC cards as you could keep any card with CMC 3+ waiting on the stack for resolution and exile another one. As soon as you would hit 1-2 CMC card you would simply get rid of the counters and follow the process for as long as you desire.

I am pretty sure the reason why TO shows the immage it shows is that there is no other card image available as Phyrexian Devourer has never been reprinted, hence why no card image with errata used on it can be shown. Such things happen from time to time in mtg, only a few days ago some creatures received errata and they are now dinosaurs, even though such information is not printed on any physical copy of those cards.
