Introduction

This list is based on my Ancestral Animar. I've had a lot of fun with that deck and I'd strongly recommend building towards my list if you have any interest in playing Animar competitively, but it's not cheap, sadly.

For this deck, I've made some heavy budget cuts to the base list aiming for a cap of $500 total. I've removed all my foils and fancy printings, plus some of the more expensive but inessential cards I play. It should still be able to execute its core gameplan quickly and effectively, but it'll lose some consistency and protection compared to a fully optimized list. Nevertheless, it should provide a good starting point for building Animar, and it'll help players avoid some of the more common pitfalls associated with the deck (over-costed junk creatures, clunky combos, etc.) I'd strongly recommend starting your upgrades with the manabase for the deck; playing so many basics really hurts your ability to cast Animar on turn 2.

Here's hoping this list provides a path for more players to get in on the fun!
