Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet

Legendary Creature — Vampire Warrior

{{3B}}, Tap: Destroy target creature. If that creature is put into a graveyard this way, put a black Vampire creature token onto the battlefield. Its power is equal to that creature's power and its toughness is equal to that creature's toughness.

Strefan akways looks pretty brutal to me, dropping all these vampire beaters. You seem to have most of the big bad bloodsuckers in here, but maybe I can suggest some you haven't considered yet:

Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief is powerful, and you can even pump her right after dropping her.

Skeletal Vampire is a lot worse, but still interesting.

Bishop of the Bloodstained will propably deal quite a bit of damage.

Bloodline Necromancer is fine recursion.

Champion of Dusk is a big draw spell.

Defiant Bloodlord will deal lots of damage here.

Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet is fun.

Marshland Bloodcaster is powerful ramp.

Shauku, Endbringer looks pretty cool in here, and if only to have it enter attacking in spite of its static ability.

Phyrexian Altar is included because of the Bontu's Monument and Oathsworn Vampire infinite damage three card combo. I'm not adding Rings of Brighthearth because I don't want to. I'm not adding Nim Deathmantle either. I do agree that Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet isn't the best and I should cut it. Priest of Forgotten Gods has a lot of synergy in this deck. I could add Vampiric Rites or any similar cards instead but I have chosen not to. I think I will add in Contamination instead of other cards. It is much more powerful than other options in my opinion. Thanks for the feedback!

I've had 8 tribal decks in my life . I'm down to 3 now. I've had Dragon tribal 2 times. The first was Atarka, World Render. This was a budget build. I once ko'ed someone there turn 3, my turn 4 with cmdr damage. The second tribal Dragon deck was a better Dragon deck. Lathliss, Dragon Queen was the cmdr. It was so much fun. I used this cmdr because I had so many mono red dragons in my binders. This cmdr was just obvious so building it was easy. I have a deck I call hydra fight club and it's really cool. I made a mono black vampire deck. It was my very first deck. Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet was the cmdr. 8 yrs ago. I've had a mono white angel deck that was life gain + enchantments for draw. It was surprisingly strong. Lyra Dawnbringer was the cmdr. This was such fun to play. Dropping a Sunblast Angel on all my opponents was brutal. These are all retired decks.

The tribal decks I still have are mono red goblins. Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin and uts made on a budget. My local lgs store owner dean made a budget Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin deck on a budget. Total cost of the deck was around 100$ so I bought it from him and made slight changes to the deck. It's value is now around 180$. Another triple deck I still have is Varina, Lich Queen. I had a mono black Zombie deck that was all the zombie lords it could fit Mikaeus, the Unhallowed was the cmdr. When Varina, Lich Queen was released. I ask the store owner if he'd like to build a deck with me. We used all the cards from my mono black Zombie deck and built Varina, Lich Queen Zombie lords edh. Pretty cool deck. Kinda strong too. The last tribal deck I still have is is mono white soldiers. Djeru, With Eyes Open is the commander because the real commander of the deck is Elspeth, Sun's Champion. I wanted to build a soldier deck around Elspeth, Sun's Champion's +1 ability. This deck is fun.

I've never had a Morophon deck.

Here are some vampiric suggestions for removing threats, more benefits when creatures are removed, and becoming a threat after a board wipe.

Dark Impostor

Blade of the Bloodchief

Bloodcrazed Paladin

Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet

Anowon, the Ruin Sage

I agree with trying to capitalize on creatures a little more than noncreatures since you already have Drana, Liberator of Malakir , Zulaport Cutthroat , and Liliana Vess caring about them to one degree or another. I think the best creatures to look into would be vampires since you already have a decent shell for them. Gatekeeper of Malakir or Feast of Blood could swap for Geth's Verdict , Gifted Aetherborn or Nighthawk Scavenger could supplement Vampire Nighthawk , Pulse Tracker or Vampire of the Dire Moon could replace Mardu Shadowspear , Blood Artist could replace Cutthroat, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose provides redundancy for Sanguine Bond , Pawn of Ulamog can provide sac fodder for cards like Ob Nix or Viscera Seer , Nullpriest of Oblivion is a flexible way to reanimate beefy monsters like Sangromancer , Vampire Nocturnus , Malakir Bloodwitch , Butcher of Malakir , or Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet . Finally, while not a vampire, I'd rather play Sidisi, Undead Vizier over Diabolic Tutor if you can't afford the OG 1-2 cost tutors. BTW, I'm not saying you should run all of these cards; just run what fits your playstyle.

@multimedia,

thanks for the feedback I used your advise to alter the deck. I also came across a few more options for the deck. Would Cliffhaven Vampire be a good substitution for Epicure of Blood ? And can the cards Pitiless Pontiff and Etchings of the Chosen be of any use? I also want to get a commbination of the following cards of around 10 euros: Merciless Eviction 1.16, True Conviction 1.15, Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet 3.10, Olivia Voldaren 2.31, Kindred Boon 2.00, Captivating Vampire 5.00, Patron of the Vein 6.82, New Blood 3.50, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose 4.50. Which ones should I go for?

SynergyBuild, at first I just read the title and replied.

I just read the rest of it and I do have a different card. My card is Vampire Nighthawk.

That card amazed me. I knew very lil about magic at this time. Lifelink and deathtouch were awesome to me and spawned a frenzy in me. Wanting to know all the best creatures with deathtouch and lifelink. This was before I started playing edh. The first edh deck I built was Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet. I had built it with vampire tribal in mind (inspired by the vampire nighthawk), it was so much fun. My first combo was Sanguine Bond and Exquisite Blood, and everyone hated it so much. At this time infinite combos in my group were frowned upon very much so. Another cool card I really liked in that deck was Painful Quandary they also really hated this card alot lol. At this time my group was new to cmdr and didn't understand the importance of card draw and removal, including myself. The next combos I assembled in this deck before I took it apart was Bloodchief Ascension and Mindcrank, then Sanguine Bond and Blood Tribute. The deck also contained Rise of the Dark Realms and Army of The Dammed . Again at the time was very reliable win condition cards.

Hey, nice budget version of Edgar. I like that you included the combo.

An area to look to improve is the manabase. 15x combined Plains and Mountain basic lands is a lot when your deck is primary black. You want black mana more than any other in the early game which Swamps help with, but Plains and Mountains don't. Consider more dual lands that can make white and red mana as well as black? You want most of the dual lands to be able to make black mana because you need black mana the most.

The manabase is budget, Tower and Check lands are good, but even on a budget there's lands to consider adding:

More expensive options: City of Brass, Godless Shrine, Blood Crypt, Sulfurous Springs, Sacred Foundry, Graven Cairns, Fetid Heath, Rugged Prairie.

Some upgrades to consider:

  • Captivating Vampire > Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet
Three drop > seven drop. Captivating Vampire is a very good reason to want to play tribal Vamps in multiplayer Commander especially with tokens.

  • Knight of the Ebon Legion > Bloodsworn Steward
One drop > four drop. Less mana cost cards that are should be considered to be cut because is difficult to make with this manabase for a four drop. Edgar already has haste.

  • Shadow Alley Denizen > Stromkirk Noble
Noble is not worth it because consistently you will not have red mana turn one, but you will have black. Denizen is same price and can give other Vamps or itself evasion when Vamps ETB or Vamp tokens are created.

  • Drana, Liberator of Malakir > Patron of the Vein
Three drop > Six drop. Drana can get out of control with attacking Vamps and tokens as a repeatable way to put counters on Vamps.

  • Dolmen Gate > Ferocity of the Wilds
Gate is excellent with Drana and other attacking Vamps since your attacking Vamps don't receive combat damage thus they can't die from combat damage, but if blocked they do combat damage to blocking creatures.

  • Ruinous Ultimatum > Kindred Charge
Ruinous is a better overall effect for one more mana and a more difficult mana cost. It's a busted effect in multiplayer Commander.

  • Living Death > Bloodline Necromancer
Bloodline can reanimate one Vamp; Living could reanimate a lot more. Living is mass sac of creatures for all players and then mass reanimation of the creatures that were in graveyards before the ones that were saced. It can help to recover and for five mana it can recover a lot.

Good luck with your deck.
