The Primer

Disclaimer: I build my decks with the main goal of having a good time while playing and not necessarily optimizing them to win. Regardless of what you are looking for I hope you enjoy the deck!

Part 2: Because I only play casually, no group I play with uses commander damage as a win condition. Please keep that in mind while looking at the deck.

Why Omnath, Locus of Rage

One person in my playgroup used to have a red green Eldrazi commander deck that ran Omnath, Locus of Rage as the commander for "value" in case the deck didn't perform and to be honest it really annoyed me that Omnath wasn't being used to its full potential. Unfortunately I did not have an Omnath of my own nor would said person trade their extra Omnath to me >:( One fateful day I was opening up couple BFZ packs and lo and behold, I finally got my Omnath and could make a proper deck of it. (And tbh its just a super fun commander)

The Strategy

Initially this deck was a more elemental heavy tribal deck, but as time went on it more of a landfall based elemental token production and sac for damage style deck.

The goal: Cast Explooooosion!!! (or any other sac outlet wincon) Specifically, avoid attacking opponents until you build enough tokens to kill everyone at once :) This is to keep true to Megumin and her fighting style.

Step 1: Your first goal is to RAMP, RAMP, and more RAMP! Cards like Exploration, Oracle of Mul Daya, and, Azusa, Lost but Seeking.

Step 2: Megumin comes out to play!

Step 3: More lands and more elemental tokens!!! Scapeshift, Ancient Greenwarden, and Parallel Lives help out here!

Step 4: Play any sac outlet, Ashnod's Altar or Goblin Bombardment, and continue to build an army.

Step 5: Generally you have enough tokens to kill at least one person on the spot by this point. This is a wonderful bargaining chip as you can say "touch me and I kill you" and everyone leaves you alone so you can build up your army of tokens until you have enough to kill everyone!

Step 6: Explooooosion!!!

Card Choices

Personal choices:

• Tutors: I get that tutors are good, I very occasionally use them however because it feels cheaty to me and I prefer the randomness of drawing off the top, uncertainty is all part of the fun for me!

• Infinite Combos: They are allowed in my playgroup and it varies how often they show up in my decks. Winning with one is kinda boring though so I prefer to limit them (another reason I don't prefer tutors - sometimes they just say "grab a combo piece and win the game")

Notable Lands

• Fetchlands: From Fabled Passage to Wooded Foothills, all are nice for extra land drops especially with Crucible of Worlds.

• Castle Garenbrig: Gives me 2 extra mana to cast Megumin who can get quite expensive after dying a couple times.

• Cryptic Caves: Repeatable card draw for {1} effectively.

• Homeward Path: Because having Megumin taken away really just sucks.

• Shifting Woodland: An excellent way to reactivate any lost combo.

Creatures

• Ancient Greenwarden: 1) It's an elemental 2) It's a backup Crucible of Worlds 3) a Panharmonicon for my lands?!?! yes please!

• Azusa, Lost but Seeking: More lands!

• Courser of Kruphix: Deck thinning and life gain.

• Lotus Cobra: Very good for ramp and acts as an alternate Amulet of Vigor

• Magmaw: An elemental with a sac outlet that also does damage.

• Mina and Denn, Wildborn: Lets us play extra lands and essentially gives us lands if we happen to be empty handed!

• Oracle of Mul Daya: More lands and deck thinning.

• Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink: Making 5 copies of Megumin makes for 90 damage as soon as state-based actions apply! 6 Omnaths see (x) 5 Omnaths, which are elementals, die to state-based actions (x) 3 damage per elemental (=) 90 damage divided into 30 groups of 3 to fire away as I please! Total of 10 damage per mana spent activating.

• Ramunap Excavator: Extra Crucible of Worlds.

• Sylvan Safekeeper: I've got plenty of lands and ways to bring them back so this is great protection for Megumin.

• Titania, Protector of Argoth: Now Scapeshift and Sylvan Safekeeper do even more!

• Vexing Shusher: I will resolve my spells goddamit!

Instants

• Beast Within: Just all around removal

• Chaos Warp: Good removal for annoying stuff.

• Harrow: More lands

• Heroic Intervention: Protect all my stuff.

• Krosan Grip: I'm getting rid of it, and you aren't stopping me.

• Nature's Claim: More removal

• Realms Uncharted: Get specific lands, it's alright if they go in the graveyard, we can get them back.

• Explooooosion!!!: My favorite win con, even if the spell is countered all the damage from Megumin and the other sacrificed elementals will get the job done!

Sorceries

• Cultivate: More lands

• Devastating Onslaught: Just like Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink, create a bunch of Omnaths that all see each other die... If X=5 Damage = 90, X=6 D=126 and so on, divvied out in chunks of 3 as desired.

• Explore: More lands

• Explosive Vegetation: Gotta include for the flavor alone.

• Kodama's Reach: Even more lands lol

• Nature's Lore: Still more lands

• Primal Growth: This is getting old...

• Rampant Growth: When will this stop

• Road of Return: Great for getting back vital pieces and casting my commander cheaper in the late game.

• Scapeshift: Especially fun when both Megumin and Titania, Protector of Argoth are out.

• Search for Tomorrow: Back to more lands

• Skyshroud Claim: Still not enough lands

• Splendid Reclamation: Give me my lands back

• Sylvan Awakening: Gives me more sac fodder for Explooooosion!!!

• Sylvan Scrying: More lands

• Tempt with Vengeance: No one ever wants any elementals >:(

• Three Visits: More lands

Enchantments

• Abundance: I get what I want from the top of my library.

• Elemental Bond: Heehoo now my lands draw cards!

• Elemental Mastery: Easy way to bust out 5 elementals aka 15 damage per turn and removes Megumin from any danger of being forced to attack or block

• Exploration: More lands

• Fires of Yavimaya: Hasty bois

• Garruk's Uprising: More draw for land drops!

• Goblin Bombardment: Each elemental does 4 damage instead of 3 now

• Greater Good: It actually reads Draw 5, discard 3, deal 3 to any target

• Parallel Lives: I mean ya can't go wrong with more tokens

• Perilous Forays: Megumin + Perilous Forays + Amulet of Vigor = I get all my basics and deal a lot of damage

• Rites of Flourishing: Extra card draw and extra lands

• Warstorm Surge: Lands = more damage

• Zendikar's Roil: More tokens!!!

Artifacts

• Amulet of Vigor: Combos with Perilous Forays and Megumin and also just is nice to have all my BLTs enter untapped

• Ashnod's Altar: Sac outlet that gives me more mana

• Conduit of Worlds: Good for getting other permanents back as well as being Crucible of Worlds

• Crucible of Worlds: Looping lands, especially fetches, for value with Zuran Orb and Sylvan Safekeeper

• Expedition Map: Mostly a way to grab Homeward Path

• Lightning Greaves: Protection for whoever I want.

• Phyrexian Altar: Sac outlet that makes me more mana.

• Sol Ring: Really good ramp.

• Swiftfoot Boots: Protection for my important things

• Zuran Orb: Gains me some life and lets me loop lands with Crucible of Worlds
